The sprea. of a. a.va.ta.eous muta.ion through a.popula.ion is of funda.enta. interest in popula.ion genetics. While the cla.sica. Mora. model is formula.ed for a.well-mixed popula.ion, it ha. long been recognized tha. in rea.-world a.plica.ions, the popula.ion usua.ly ha. a. explicit spa.ia. structure which ca. significa.tly influence the dyna.ics. In the context of ca.cer initia.ion in epithelia. tissue, severa. recent works ha.e a.a.yzed the dyna.ics of a.va.ta.eous muta.t sprea. on integer la.tices, using the bia.ed voter model from pa.ticle systems theory. In this spa.ia. version of the Mora. model, individua.s first reproduce a.cording to their fitness a.d then repla.e a.neighboring individua.. From a.biologica. sta.dpoint, the opposite dyna.ics, where individua.s first die a.d a.e then repla.ed by a.neighboring individua. a.cording to its fitness, a.e equa.ly releva.t. Here, we investiga.e this dea.h-birth a.a.ogue of the bia.ed voter model. We construct the process ma.hema.ica.ly, derive the a.socia.ed dua. process, esta.lish bounds on the surviva. proba.ility of a.single muta.t, a.d prove tha. the process ha. a. a.ymptotic sha.e. We a.so briefly discuss a.terna.ive birth-dea.h a.d dea.h-birth dyna.ics, depending on how the muta.t fitness a.va.ta.e a.fects the dyna.ics. We show tha. birth-dea.h a.d dea.h-birth formula.ions of the bia.ed voter model a.e equiva.ent when fitness a.fects the former event of ea.h upda.e of the model, wherea. the birth-dea.h model is funda.enta.ly different from the dea.h-birth model when fitness a.fects the la.ter event.
