Long-term epilepsy associated tumors(LEAT) represent a well known cause of focal epilepsies. Glioneuronaltumors are the most frequent histological type consisting of a mixture of glial and neuronal elements and most commonly ariseing in the temporal lobe. Cortical dysplasia or other neuronal migration abnormalities often coexist. Epilepsy associated with LEAT is generally poorly controlled by antiepileptic drugs while, on the other hand, it is high responsive to surgical treatment. However the best management strategy of tumor-related focal epilepsies remains controversial representing a contemporary issues in epilepsy surgery. Temporo-mesial LEAT have a widespread epileptic networkwith complex epileptogenic mechanisms. By using an epilepsy surgery oriented strategy LEAT may have an excellent seizure outcome therefore surgical treatment should be offered early, irrespective of pharmacoresistance, avoiding both the consequences of uncontrolled seizures as well as the side effects of prolonged pharmacological therapy and the rare risk of malignant transformation.

Homogenization of Elliptic Problems with Quadratic Growth and Nonhomogenous Robin Conditions in Perforated Domains

This paper deals with the homogenization of a class of nonlinear elliptic problems with quadratic growth in a periodically perforated domain. The authors prescribe a Dirichlet condition on the exterior boundary and a nonhomogeneous nonlinear Robin condition on the boundary of the holes. The main difficulty, when passing to the limit, is that the solution of the problems converges neither strongly in L^2(Ω) nor almost everywhere in Ω. A new convergence result involving nonlinear functions provides suitable weak convergence results which permit passing to the limit without using any extension ***, using a corrector result proved in [Chourabi, I. and Donato, P., Homogenization and correctors of a class of elliptic problems in perforated domains, Asymptotic Analysis, 92(1), 2015, 1–43, DOI: 10.3233/ASY-151288], the authors describe the limit problem, presenting a limit nonlinearity which is different for the two cases, that of a Neumann datum with a nonzero average and with a zero average.

The authors study the following Dirichlet problem of a system involving fractional(p, q)-Laplacian operators:{(-△)_p^su=λa(x)|u|+^(p-2)u+λb(x)|u|^(α-2)|u|~βu+μ(x)/αδ|u|^(γ-2)|v|~δu in Ω,(-△)_p^su=λc(x)|v|+^(q-2)v+λb(x)|u|~α|u|^(β-2)v+μ(x)/βγ|u|~γ|v|^(δ-2)v in Ω,u=v=0 on R^N\Ω where λ > 0 is a real parameter, ? is a bounded domain in RN, with boundary ?? Lipschitz continuous, s ∈(0, 1), 1 < p ≤ q < ∞, sq < N, while(-?)s pu is the fractional p-Laplacian operator of u and, similarly,(-?)s qv is the fractional q-Laplacian operator of v. Since possibly p = q, the classical definitions of the Nehari manifold for systems and of the Fibering mapping are not suitable. In this paper, the authors modify these definitions to solve the Dirichlet problem above. Then, by virtue of the properties of the first eigenvalueλ_1 for a related system, they prove that there exists a positive solution for the problem when λ < λ_1 by the modified definitions. Moreover, the authors obtain the bifurcation property when λ→λ_1^-. Finally, thanks to the Picone identity, a nonexistence result is also obtained when λ≥λ_1.

Bingham Flows in Periodic Domains of Infinite Length

The Bingham fluid model has been successfully used in modeling a large class of non-Newtonian fluids. In this paper, the authors extend to the case of Bingham fluids the results previously obtained by Chipot and Mardare, who studied the asymptotics of the Stokes flow in a cylindrical domain that becomes unbounded in one direction, and prove the convergence of the solution to the Bingham problem in a finite periodic domain, to the solution of the Bingham problem in the infinite periodic domain, as the length of the finite domain goes to infinity. As a consequence of this convergence, the existence of a solution to a Bingham problem in the infinite periodic domain is obtained, and the uniqueness of the velocity field for this problem is also shown. Finally, they show that the error in approximating the velocity field in the infinite domain with the velocity in a periodic domain of length 2l has a polynomial decay in , unlike in the Stokes case （see [Chipot, M. and Mardare, S., Asymptotic behaviour of the Stokes problem in cylinders becoming unbounded in one direction, Journal de Mathgmatiques Pures et Appliqudes, 90（2）, 2008, 133-159]） where it has an exponential decay. This is in itself an important result for the numerical simulations of non-Newtonian flows in long tubes.

Approximating Geographical Queries

This article proposes a graph-theoretic methodology for query approximation in Geographic Information Systems, enabling the relaxation of three kinds of query constraints： topological, semantic and structural. An approximate query is associated with a value corresponding to the degree of similarity with the original query. Such a value is computed for topological constraints on the basis of the topological distance between configurations, for semantic constraints using the information content approach, and for structural constraints revisiting the maximum weighted matching problem in bipartite graphs. Finally, the high correlation of our proposal with human judgment is demonstrated by an experiment.

Neoplastic disease after liver transplantation: focus on de novo neoplasms

De novo neoplasms account for almost 30% of deaths 10 years after liver transplantation and are the most common cause of mortality in patients surviving at least 1 year after transplant. The risk of malignancy is two to four times higher in transplant recipients than in an age- and sex-matched population, and cancer is expected to surpass cardiovascular complications as the primary cause of death in transplanted patients within the next 2 decades. Since exposure to immunosuppression is associated with an increased frequency of developing neoplasm, long-term immunosuppression should be therefore minimized. Promising results in the prevention of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) recurrence have been reported with the use of m TOR inhibitors including everolimus and sirolimus and the ongoing open-label prospective randomized controlled SILVER. Study will provide more information on whether sirolimus-containing vs m TOR-inhibitorfree immunosuppression is more efficacious in reducing HCC recurrence.
