The chemical composition of PM_(2.5) at two sites in Lebanon,a country in the East Mediterranean-Middle East region,is investigated in the spring and summer *** average PM_(2.5) concentrations were of(29±16)μg/m 3 for Beirut urban site and(32±14)μg/m 3 for Beirut suburban *** study showed that the geographic location of the East Mediterranean region,such as its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and the dust storm intrusion are a significant contributor to the high PM levels from natural sources,which cannot be mitigated,rendering the PM_(2.5) WHO annual Air Quality guideline unattainable due to high natural background,which also applies to the entire Middle East *** and Eastern Europe are the dominant origin of air masses throughout our sampling days,suggesting the long-range transport as an important potential contributor to the high observed concentrations of V,Ni,and sulfate in this region most probably in other East Mediterranean countries than Lebanon *** local sources determined through the chemical speciation including organics are road transport,resuspension of dust and diesel private generators.A health risk assessment of airborne metals was performed and the carcinogenic risk for all the metals exceeded by 42(adults)and 14(children)times the acceptable risk level(10^(-6))at both *** was the predominant carcinogenic metal,emphasizing the need to replace energy production with cleaner energy on a regional level and highlighting the severe impact of air pollution on the health of inhabitants in this region’s main cities.

Background and Objectives: Pyelo-Ureteral Junction Syndrome (PUJS) is the most common obstructive malformation of the upper urinary tract in children and adults. The standard treatment is open pyeloplasty using the Kuss-Anderson technique. Because of the minimally invasive nature of the laparoscopic approach, it has become the approach of choice for the management of this pathology. We present the results of laparoscopic transperitoneal pyeloplasty used in the management of PUJS. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study from 2015 to 2020, including 26 patients who underwent laparoscopic transperitoneal pyeloplasty for PUJS. Results: Twenty-six patients, including 18 (69.2%) men and 6 (30.8%) women, with a mean age of 35.42 ± 13.62 years, were treated. Renal colic was the primary symptom in the majority of the cases (22, 84.6%)). The diagnosis was confirmed in all patients through an abdominal CT scan, which revealed that all 26 patients had hydronephrosis. Half of the patients (50.0%) were classified as Valayer-Cendron Type II, and eight (30.8%) patients had associated stones. Seventeen (65.4%) patients had pathologies on the left side, and all patients were treated using the Kuss-Anderson technique with a median operating time of 108.5 (90.0 - 136.0) minutes. The uncrossing of lower pole vessels was performed in 10 patients. The average duration of hospitalisation was 2.23 ± 0.82 days. No conversion was observed, and after an average follow-up of 53.69 days, the success rate was 92.3%. Conclusion: Laparoscopic pyeloplasty is a minimally invasive technique of choice for the treatment of pyelo-ureteral junction obstruction. It is dependable, repeatable, and produces good functional outcomes that are equal to those of traditional surgery.

Evaluation of Weather Research and Forecasting Model Parameterizations under Sea-Breeze Conditions in a North Sea Coastal Environment

Three atmospheric boundary layer （ABL） schemes and two land surface models that are used in the Weather Research and Forecasting （WRF） model, version 3.4.1, were evaluated with numerical simulations by using data from the north coast of France （Dunkerque）. The ABL schemes YSU （Yonsei University）, ACM2 （Asymmetric Convective Model version 2）, and MYJ （Mellor-Yamada-Janjic） were combined with two land surface models, Noah and RUC （Rapid Update Cycle）, in order to determine the performances under sea-breeze conditions. Particular attention is given in the determination of the thermal internal boundary layer （TIBL）, which is very important in air pollution scenarios. The other physics parameterizations used in the model were consistent for all simulations. The predictions of the sea-breeze dynamics output from the WRF model were compared with observations taken from sonic detection and ranging, light detection and ranging systems and a meteorological surface station to verify that the model had reasonable accuracy in predicting the behavior of local circulations. The temporal comparisons of the vertical and horizontal wind speeds and wind directions predicted by the WRF model showed that all runs detected the passage of the sea-breeze front. However, except for the combination of MYJ and Noah, all runs had a time delay compared with the frontal passage measured by the instruments. The proposed study shows that the synoptic wind attenuated the intensity and penetration of the sea breeze. This provided changes in the vertical mixing in a short period of time and on soil temperature that could not be detected by the WRF model simulations with the computational grid used. Additionally, among the tested schemes, the combination of the local- closure MYJ scheme with the land surface Noah scheme was able to produce the most accurate ABL height compared with observations, and it was also able to capture the TIBL.

Objective:To evaluate the contribution of poses screen pre-impregnated(PSP) installed at openings and eaves of dwellings in the reduction of malaria transmission in the commune of Aguegues in ***:The PSP were manufactured from preimpregnated Olyset *** were installed at windows,eaves and doors of 70 dwellings.320 children aged 6-59 months were treated and 311 children were recruited in the control *** measured are:plasmodic index(IP),gametoeyte index,parasite density(PD),fever,hemoglobin,anemia. Results:The global IP was 16.62%with PSP and 72.20%without *** index did not differ significantly between the treated zone(27.8) and the control zone(29.1).The total geometric mean of DP was 309 in the treated zone and 600 in the control *** level is 8.7 in the control zone and 9.5 in the treated *** noted a predominance of anemia in the control zone compared to the treated ***:The PSP have contributed to a significant reduction in morbidity in the commune of Aguegues.

Background: Dental implant is an artificial root inserted in the jawbone, which restores a lost tooth so that it looks, feels, and is fit like a natural tooth. It is considered to be the best treatment option for single or multiple missing teeth. The aim of this study was to assess the awareness of patients about dental implants as an alternative treatment in Congolese patients. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two institutions namely, CBCO Bandal and Ngaliema Clinic, from August to December 2017. A total of 450 respondents have participated in the survey. A printed questionnaire comprised of 20 questions in order to evaluate patients dental awareness was used. Gender, level of education, awareness of dental implant and dental implants therapy, sources of information and the expectation about the sources of information were assessed. The collected data were entered in Microsoft Excel 2010 and analyzed by SPSS (IBM SPSS 20.0, Chicago, IL, USA) software. Results: Out of 450 participants, 14.4% were aware of dental implants. The main disadvantage of dental implant was the high cost. When asked about the anchorage, 86% didn’t know where the dental implant was anchored. Ninety-two percent didn’t know for how long an implant last, 6% thought that dental implant last for a lifetime. When patients were asked about the sources of information, the dentist (5%) and media (5.5%) were the main sources of information. The majority of patients (88.4%) would like to get information about dental implants from their dentist. Conclusion: Dentists should be more involved in the promotion of information about dental implants as a treatment modality to replace missing teeth.

A six-year descriptive epidemiological study of human coronavirus infections in hospitalized patients in Hong Kong

We conducted a six-year epidemiological study on human coronaviruses(HCoVs) circulating in Hong Kong, using 8275 nasopharyngeal samples from patients with acute respiratory tract infections. HCoVs were detected in 77(0.93%) of the samples by a pan-HCoV RT-PCR assay. The most frequently detected HCoV species was HCoV-OC43(0.58%), followed by HCoV-229E(0.15%),HCoV-HKU1(0.13%) and HCoV-NL63(0.07%). HCoVs were detected throughout the study period(September 2008–August 2014), with the highest detection rate from September 2010 to August2011(22/1500, 1.47%). Different seasonal patterns of each HCoV species in Hong Kong were ***-OC43 was predominant in the fall and winter, whereas HCoV-HKU1 showed peak activity in winter, with a few cases occurred in spring and summer. HCoV-229 E mainly occurred in winter and spring, while HCoV-NL63 was predominant in summer and autumn. HCoVs most commonly infect the elderly and young children, with median age of 79.5 years(range, 22 days to 95 years).Intriguingly, the detection rate of HCoV-OC43 in the age group of > 80 years(26/2380, 1.09%) was significantly higher than that in the age group of 0–10 years(12/2529, 0.47%)(P < 0.05). These data provides new insight into the epidemiology of coronaviruses.

AIM To compare the performances of the Barcelona clinic liver cancer(BCLC) nomogram and others systems(BCLC, HKLC, CLIP, NIACE) for survival prediction in a large hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) French *** Data were collected retrospectively from 01/2007 to 12/2013 in five French centers. Newly diagnosed HCC patients were analyzed. The discriminatory ability, homogeneity ability, prognostic stratification ability Akaike information criterion(AIC) and C-index were compared among scoring systems. RESULTS The cohort included 1102 patients, mostly men, median age 68 [60-74] years with cirrhosis(81%), child-Pugh A(73%), alcohol-related(41%), HCV-related(27%). HCC were multinodular(59%) and vascular invasion was present in 41% of cases. At time of HCC diagnosis BCLC stages were A(17%), B(16%), C(60%) and D(7%). First line HCC treatment was curative in 23.5%, palliative in 59.5%, BSC in 17% of our population. Median OS was 10.8 mo [4.9-28.0]. Each system distinguished different survival prognosis groups(P < 0.0001). The nomogram had the highest discriminatory ability, the highest C-index value. NIACE score had the lowest AIC value. The nomogram distinguished sixteen different prognosis groups. By classifying unifocal large HCC into tumor burden 1, the nomogram was less powerful. CONCLUSION In this French cohort, the BCLC nomogram and the NIACE score provided the best prognostic information, but the NIACE could even help treatment strategies.

Geophysical surveying is crucial in the investigation of mineral resources in poorly exposed areas such as SE-Cameroon, a region known for its gold mineral potential. In this paper, gravity survey is carried out in the Batouri area, SE-Cameroon based on land gravity data from the Centre-south Cameroon. Therefore, an analytical polynomial separation program, based on least-square fitting of a third-degree polynomial surface to the Bouguer anomaly map, was used to separate the regional/residual components in gravity data. This technique permitted to better understand the disposition of the deep and near surface structures responsible of the observed anomalies in the Batouri area. Spectral analysis and 2.5D modelling of two profiles P1 (SW-NE) and P2 (N-S) selected from the residual anomaly map provided depths to basement. These depths constrain the gravity models along the profiles, indicating a variable thickness of the sedimentary infill with an approximate anomaly of -33 mGal. The 2.5D model of the basement shows a gravity body, with a signature suggesting two close and similar masses, which characterize the quartz-bearing formations associated here to granite and gneiss. Our work highlights a main heavy gravity: Gwé-Batouri anomaly, containing the major part of auriferous deposits located along the NE-SW direction. Further, three tectonic sub-basins bounded by normal faults have been highlighted at Guedal, Gwé, and Bélimban, in the south of Guedal-Bélimban depression. We introduce the concept of time mask,which is a type of temporal filter suitable for selection of multiple disjoint time intervals in which some query conditions *** a filter can be applied to time-referenced objects,such as events and trajectories,for selecting those objects or segments of trajectories that fit in one of the selected time *** selected subsets of objects or segments are dynamically summarized in various ways,and the summaries are represented visually on maps and/or other displays to enable *** time mask filtering can be especially helpful in analysis of disparate data(e.g.,event records,positions of moving objects,and time series of measurements),which may come from different *** detect relationships between such data,the analyst may set query conditions on the basis of one dataset and investigate the subsets of objects and values in the other datasets that co-occurred in time with these *** describe the desired features of an interactive tool for time mask filtering and present a possible implementation of such a *** example of analysing two real world data collections related to aviation and maritime traffic,we show the way of using time masks in combination with other types of filters and demonstrate the utility of the time mask filtering.
