Despite the potential synergism, integrated watershed management and ecosystem services frameworks are rarely used jointly to address the myriad of current water-related issues. The two frameworks are used in this study to spatially identify ecosystem hotspots and coldspots for priority setting in natural resource management programs. Inferred proxies of carbon storage, groundwater supply, surface water supply, and soil retention ecosystem service production potentials were quantified for Texas, U.S., using two complimentary hydro-ecological models, and valued using a non-monetary multi-criteria valuation approach. Maps of individual and composite ecosystem service values showed that several services were co-located and unevenly distributed with most of the high-value hotspots clustered in the eastern part of the state. Individual impacts of land use, climatic and soil properties on the distribution and value of ecosystem services across space were discernable. The study underscored the need for holistic management of landscapes to take advantage of the multiplicity of benefits provided by nature. The approach can readily be incorporated into resource management programs to identify high-value ecosystem service production areas that need conservation, low-value areas that may need restoration, and anthropogenic activities influencing the distribution of ecosystem services.

Dear Editor, We present here the first report linking a specific gene, ribosomal protein L29 （Rp129）, also known as Hip （heparin/heparan sulfate interacting protein）, to the mammalian sperm flagellar morphological anomaly termed the ＂dag＂ defect. In addition, we show that loss of Rp/29 invariably results in low sperm motility with infertility accompanying this abnormality.

The dentate gyrus subregion of the mammalian hippocampus is an adult neural stem cell niche and site of lifelong *** regarding the role of adult-born neuron synaptic integration in hippocampal circuit function are framed by robust estimations of adultborn versus pre/perinatally-born neuron *** contrast,the non-neurogenic functions of adult neural stem cells and their immediate progeny,such as secretion of bioactive growth factors and expression of extracellular matrix-modifying proteins,lack similar framing due to few estimates of their number versus other prominent secretory ***,we apply immunohistochemical methods to estimate cell density of neural stem/progenitor cells versus other major classes of glial and endothelial cell types that are potentially secretory in the dentate gyrus of adult *** the cell types quantified,we found that GFAP^(+)SOX2^(+)stellate astrocytes were the most numerous,followed by CD31^(+)endothelia,GFAP-SOX2^(+)intermediate progenitors,Olig2^(+)oligodendrocytes,Iba1+microglia,and GFAP^(+)SOX2^(+)radial glia-like neural stem *** did not observe any significant sex differences in density of any cell ***,neural stem/progenitor cells were present at a similar density as several cell types known to have potent functional roles via their *** findings may be useful for refining hypotheses regarding the contributions of these cell types to regulating hippocampal function and their potential therapeutic *** experimental protocols were approved by the Ohio State University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee(protocol#2016A00000068)on July 14,2016.

锐钛型钛二氧化物纳米颗粒（TNPs）广泛应用在商业领域，并且存在于不同的产品中。为明确更小剂量的锐钛型钛二氧化物纳米颗粒（ATNPs）间隔一定距离进入体内到达阴囊后是否能诱导精子缺陷的发生，雄性成年小鼠持续3天腹腔内注射100％ATNP（2．5或5mg／kg），然后在注射后1周、2周、3周或5周（长时间暴露）或者是注射后24小时、48小时或120小时（短时间暴露）处死。透射电镜表明在注射后120小时收集到的阴囊脂肪组织中，附睾组织和附睾液均出现炎症反应。在注射后120小时和3周后，睾丸组织间质间隙增大。利用末端脱氧核糖核酸转移酶介导的缺口末端标记技术发现在注射后的雄鼠体内阳性（即凋亡）精子（P=0．002）和间质细胞（P=O．04）数目均显著增加。与对照组相比，短时间暴露而不是长时间暴露的附睾尾部精子鞭毛异常、过量胞浆残余（ERC）的发生率增加，精子无顶体反应的发生率增加（呈剂量依赖性）。ERC与无顶体反应是否存在相关性目前尚不清楚。与对照组相比，暴露120小时组快速运动精子数量和线粒体膜电位均显著下降（P〈0．05），同时，活性氧水平显著增加（P〈0．00001）。这些结果表明在注射后4．8天，ANTP能够引发不育的精子结构和功能的异常，并且通过氧化应激造成DNA的损伤。同时，在暴露后的10天到5周末检测到精子的异常，这表明精子的这种异常是暂时性的。

AIM To investigate the impact of medication beliefs, illness perceptions and quality of life on medication adherence in people with decompensated *** One hundred adults with decompensated cirrhosis completed a structured questionnaire when they attended for routine outpatient hepatology review. Measures of self-reported medication adherence(Morisky Medication Adherence Scale), beliefs surrounding medications(Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire), perceptions of illness and medicines(Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire), and quality of life(Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire) were examined. Clinical data were obtained via patient history and review of medical records. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and stepwise backwards regression techniques were used to construct the multivariable logistic regression model. Statistical significance was set at alpha = *** Medication adherence was " High " in 42 % o f participants, "Medium" in 37%, and "Low" in 21%. Compared to patients with "High" adherence, those with "Medium" or "Low" adherence were more likely to report difficulty affording their medications(P < 0.001), lower perception of treatment helpfulness(P = 0.003) and stronger medication concerns relative to medication necessity beliefs(P = 0.003). People with "Low" adherence also experienced greater symptom burden and poorer quality of life, including more frequent abdominal pain(P = 0.023), shortness of breath(P = 0.030), and emotional disturbances(P = 0.050). Multivariable analysis identified having stronger medication concerns relative to necessity beliefs(Necessity-Concerns Differential ≤ 5, OR = 3.66, 95%CI: 1.18-11.40) and more frequent shortness of breath(shortness of breath score ≤ 3, OR = 3.87,95%CI: 1.22-12.25) as independent predictors of "Low"*** The association between "Low" adherence and patients having strong concerns or doubting the necessity or helpfulness of their medications should be explor

Purpose: Non-adherence to recommended follow-up visits after an abnormal cytological finding is associated with poorer outcomes and higher health care costs. The purpose of this paper is to describe the challenges when examining reasons for non-adherence to cervical cancer screening follow-up and to discuss the recommendations to overcome those challenges. Methods: We conducted a telephone survey with two subgroups of women: 1) those which adhered to recommended follow-up care after an abnormal Pap test, and 2) those which did not adhere. Results: The follow-up accrual among non-adherent women lagged behind that of adherers. We were able to contact and conduct a survey with 51% of the adherers and 26% of the non-adherers. The challenges in studying non-adherent women were related to several distinct factors: 1) the definition of non-adherence, 2) the availability of alternate contact information, 3) the amount and type of financial incentives, and 4) the availability of staffing. We describe strategies employed to increase the accrual of non-adherent women. Discussion: This paper describes four recommendations that may play a role in understanding and reducing non-adherence to follow-up gynecological care.

Use of legume trees can improve soil quality in degraded pastures. The aim of this study was to charac- terize C and N mineralization kinetics and estimate the potentially mineralizable C and N in soil under Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth. and Acacia auriculiformis A. Cunn. ex Benth. secondary forest and pasture in red-yellow latosols in southeast Brazil. We conducted a laboratory aerobic incubation experiment using a completely ran- domized design of four replicates and four types of plant cover using a modified version of the Stanford and smith technique （1972） to study C and N mineralization potential. Potentially mineralizable N （No） ranged from 135 to 170 mg kg-1. The predominant form of mineral N for all types of plant cover was N-NO3-. M. caesalpiniifolia was the only species that had a positive influence on N min- eralization. Neither of the legumes influenced C mineral- ization in pasture or secondary forest. The model of N mineralization corresponded to a sigmoidal curve while C mineralization corresponded to an exponential curve, revealing that the N and C mineralization processes were distinct. N mineralized by M. caesalpiniifolia （216 kg ofN ha-1） was adequate to meet the N requirement for a livestock-forest system.
