Background: The hand is an essential component for performing our daily tasks;as a result, injuries to the fingertip are frequently seen. Accurate evaluation and treatment of fingertip injuries are essential to avoiding long-term disability, job loss and psychological issues. no matter the injury classification system, maintaining finger length, regaining sensation, and improving appearance are the three main objectives of treatment. The objective of this research was to outline the epidemiology of fingertip injuries treated between 2021 and 2022 at a highly specialized referral hospital in Mexico City. Methodology: This investigation is cross-sectional, retrospective, and observational. From January 2021 to December 2022, 60 patients with a diagnosis of fingertip injury from the South Central Hospital “Pemex” were included. The descriptive statistical analysis was performed using SPSS29. Results: 60 patients were included, 27 (45%) were women and 33 (55%) were men. Allen’s classification was able to classify only 19 patients, of which 18 (94.7%) had a type 1 classification and one (5.26%) had a type 2 classification. 10% of patients experienced complications, which included 2 patients with surgical site infections (3.3%), 3 patients with persistent pain (5%), and 1 patient (1.6%) with graft rejection. Conclusions: There are currently insufficient epidemiological data on hand and wrist injuries and its effects on labor in Mexico. Fingertip injuries require particular care in order to prevent complications and long-term damage. The creation of national registries could help with the creation of reference manuals for the care of hand and wrist injuries in our nation.

Heat Production Partition in Sheep Fed above Maintenance from Indirect Calorimetry Data

The objective of this study is to compare the partition of heat energy (HE) in two sheep breeds by indirect calorimetry and integral calculus. An experiment was conducted with two Spanish native sheep breeds (dry and non-pregnant) which were fed with pelleted mixed diets above maintenance. Six Guirras and six Manchegas breed sheep were selected (58.8 ± 3.1 and 60.2 ± 3.2 kg body weight, respectively). All sheep were fed with the same concentrate mixed ration (0.300 kg cereal straw as forage and 0.700 kg concentrate) in two meals. Half the daily ration was offered at 800 h and another half at 1600 h. The sheep had free access to water. Sheep were allocated in metabolic cages;energy balance and gas exchange were assessed in each sheep. The statistical analyses included the fixed effect of breed and random effect of sheep. The metabolic energy (ME) for maintenance represented 69% of the total ME intake and the average was 354 kJ per kg of metabolic body weight (kg0.75 BW) on average. The basal metabolism (HeE) was greater (P n Guirra than Manchega breed (270 ± 18 vs. 247 ± 15 kJ/kg0.75 BW and day). As sheep were fed with above maintenance, the retained energy in the body accounted for 22% of the ME intake and 77% of the ME intake was lost as heat. 51% of the MEI was converted to HeE;5% was lost as physical activity of standing and lying down (HjE), and 13% was associated with the process of feeding and work of digestion and metabolism (HdE). Within HdE, 47% represented the cost of intake and feeding and 54% the cost of digestion and metabolism. no differences in HE partition between breeds were found, although Guirra breed showed less efficiency of energy retention than Manchega breed. Therefore, this study demonstrated a tentative approach of partitioning HE, combining indirect calorimetry and integral calculus.

Upper limb function impairment is one of the most common sequelae of central nervous system in jury, especially in stroke patients and when spinal cord injury produces tetraplegia. Conventional assessment methods cannot provide objective evaluation of patient performance and the effec tiveness of therapies. The most common assessment tools are based on rating scales, which are inefficient when measuring small changes and can yield subjective bias. In this study, we designed an inertial sensorbased monitoring system composed of five sensors to measure and analyze the complex movements of the upper limbs, which are common in activities of daily living. We devel oped a kinematic model with nine degrees of freedom to analyze upper limb and head movements in three dimensions. This system was then validated using a commercial optoelectronic system. These findings suggest that an inertial sensorbased motion tracking system can be used in patients who have upper limb impairment through data integration with a virtual realitybased neurorehabili tation system.

Development and Validation of Proximal Chemistry Analytical Procedure in Semi-automated Equipment

The proximal chemical analysis （AQP） includes 5 fundamental tests, which are： determination of crude protein, determination of crude fiber, determination of humidity, determination of ashes and determination of fat. This last determination can be made in two different ways, which will depend on the type of sample being treated, as well as the amount of fat expected to be obtained in the food to be analyzed. For foods with low amounts of fat the hydrolysis technique is used, which is divided into 3 phases. All the methods before being taken to the daily practice in a laboratory of food analysis either internal control, verification or third authorized must be validated, in order to obtain consistent, robust and reliable results. In those cases in which the method that will be tested differs with the method that is reported in the literature, a comparison of both methods should be made in order to ensure that both are compatible and the results will be equally reliable. In the validation, the acceptance parameters will be established for each one of the tests that are carried out in it, while at the end of it the acceptance criteria for the general method will be established. The objective of this work was to carry out the development of analytical methodology that was validatable in order to reduce analysis time by using semi-automated equipment. In the case of semi-automated equipment, this comparison of methods is carried out, as it was the case of the analysis of fat with hydrolysis, which used a hydrolysis unit and the extraction equipment using samples of finished food for animal consumption. The results obtained in the validation using the traditional method correspond to a CV less than 2%, while the results obtained using semi-automated equipment correspond to a CV less than 2% for the case of fat determination with hydrolysis.

AIM： To examine the risk of renal events in patients with biopsy-proven diabetic nephropathy （Dn） and its possible associated ***： Clinical and histological data of 60 pa-tients diagnosed with diabetic nephropathy were retro-spectively collected. Patients with evidence or suspicion of other nephropathies were excluded from the study. The fnal event was defned as renal replacement ther-apy （RRT） initiation or progression of chronic kidney disease （CKD）, according to the KDIGO 2012 defnition of a decrease in CKD category and a decrease in GFR of 25% or more. RESUlTS： A total of 45 patients with a follow-up of at least 3 mo were included. Most of the patients presented type 2 DM, with a mean age of 58.3 years old. The time of evolution of DM was 9.6 ± 7.8 years, al-though in 13 patients, it was less than 5 years. A total of 62% of patients reached the fnal event in a mean period of 3.4 years （95%CI： 2.1-4.7）, with 21 of them requiring dialysis. The factors that were indepen-dently associated with renal survival were estimated glomerular fltration rate （eGFR） at the time of biopsy, cardiovascular disease （CVD） history and HbA1c less than 7%. Therefore, for each 10 ml/min per 1.73 m2 reduction in eGFR, we obtained a Dn progression risk of HR = 2 （1.3-3.0）（P = 0.001）; patients with CVD were at greater risk for Dn progression （HR = 2.8, 1.1-7.1, P = 0.032）, and CKD patients with HbA1c 〈 7% demonstrated greater renal risk than patients with HbA1c ≥ 7%, with an HR of 2.9 （1.0-8.4）（P = 0.054）.COnClUSIOn： A past history of CVD is a risk fac-tor for Dn progression. levels of HbA1c less than 7% could favor an eGFR decrease in these patients.

Malaria endemic zones are mostly located on third world countries, where antimalarials are not easily found or patients cannot afford them, and in consequence, they must turn toward natural products or phytomedicines. In the present study, the effect of Hinotnia latiflora (Hl) methanolic stem bark extract (HlMeOHe) on the ultrastructure of the asexual intraerythrocytic stages of Plasmodium yoelii yoelii (Pyy) after a Peters’ four-day oral treatment was assessed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), as well as the parasite development on blood smears, analyzed by light microscopy. likewise, extract was subjected to qualitative tests adopting standard procedures for identification of phytoconstituents;its antioxidant activity was evaluated according to the method of Brand-Williams and by the radical cation decolorization assay. Results showed higher percentage of rings and lower percentage of trophozoites and schizonts in the treated animals, in comparison with those of the control groups, which demonstrated lower percentage of rings and trophozoites, and schizonts in higher number. Images of TEM showed in some treated parasites, mild parasite membranes, organelle swelling and ribosomal depletion. The phytochemical profile demonstrated that the extract contains alkaloids, tannis, steroids, terpenoids, flavonoids, phenolics and saponins. The obtained values of the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) in μg/ml, for both antioxidant assays were of 423.83 and 202.95 respectively. It is concluded that HlMeOHe altered the development of the intraerythrocytic asexual stages and the ultrastructure of Pyy, and due to its phytochemical constituents, showed an in vitro antioxidant activity.
