The prostate is an accessory sex gland that develops under precise androgenic control. It is known that hormonal imbalance may disrupt its development predisposing this gland to develop diseases during aging. Although the hypothesis regarding earlier origins of prostate diseases was proposed many years ago, the mechanisms underlying this complex phenomenon are poorly understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the prostates of old male gerbils exposed to testosterone during intrauterine and postnatal life using morphological, biometrical, stereological, Kariometric, immunohistochemical, and immunofluorescence analyses. Our findings demonstrate that prenatal and pubertal exposure to testosterone increases the susceptibility to the development of prostate diseases during aging. The presence of a more proliferative gland associated with foci of adenomatous hyperplasia in animals exposed to testosterone during the prenatal and pubertal phase show that the utero life and the pubertal period are important phases for prostatic morphophysiology establishment, which is a determinant for the health of the gland during aging. Therefore, these findings reinforce the idea that prostate disease may result from hormonal disruptions in early events during prostate development, which imprint permanently on the gland predisposing it to develop lesions in later stages of life.

The purpose of this study was to verify the efficiency of methods of pre-conditioning and concentrations of tetrazolium solution in the evaluation of physiological quality of Stizolobium aterrimum seeds. Commercial seeds have passed through the process of accelerated aging for composing lots of 0, 24, 48, 96 and 144 hours, and were submitted to the pre-conditioning: 1) Scarification with sandpaper number 100 and immersion in water at room temperature for 18 hours, 2) Immersion in water at 95°C and maintained in the same water outside the heating at 25°C for 18 hours. After preconditioning, the seed coats were removed and immersed in embryos tetrazolium salt at 0.25%, 0.5% and 1% for 150 minutes and maintained in the dark at 25°C for color development. To compare the results obtained in the tetrazolium test, we performed germination test, first counting and germination speed index. The method of scarification with sandpaper and later soaked in water for 18 hours at 25°C, the most efficient way in preconditioning of seeds of Stizolobium aterrimum and concentration of 1.0% tetrazolium solution for 150 minutes at 25°C, allows evaluating the quality of seed lots from this species.

Green coconut fiber (Cocos nucifera L.) has been largely used in solid-phase extraction. The effect of the initial dye concentration (1.91, 3.02 and 4.02) × 10-5 mol·L-1 and solid phase contact (SPE) time were evaluated at different temperatures (283, 298 and 313) K at pH 2. Kinetic experimental data were applied to three simplified kinetic models: pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and intraparticle diffusion. The adsorption of 5.5’-DI onto the solid phase showed excellent fit to the pseudo-second order model. At 283, 298 and 313 K the maximum sorption, qmax,exp, for the lowest initial concentration (Co = 1.91 × 10-5 mol·L-1) of 5.5’-DI were (5.01, 5.24 and 6.14) × 10-4 g·g-1;for Co = 3.02 × 10-5 mol·L-1 (0.93, 1.01 and 1.03) × 10-3

The most frequent types of disasters in Brazil are associated with extreme hydrological events. Adding to this situation, in Brazil, there are the extreme sociospatial discrepancies that are historically constructed. They leave marks in space, making specific areas, for political interest or not, more vulnerable to the different mentioned processes. To this extent, the public management should plan actions and, also, it may act in a more holistic way adding new trends, such as, the use of geotechnologies that are applied to environmental management in the realm of urban planning. From a case study in the city of Rio de Janeiro, this paper aims to contribute and draw attention to such issues. It may reach its target through pointing and spatially analyzing which areas are in the most critical situation related to the occurrence of extreme hydrological events. To achieve this goal, it was proposed a methodology to inventory the occurrence of inundation/flooding for a certain period, in this case 2001-2008. Besides, the methodology could systematize data and integrate them with other important issues for supporting the process of identification and analysis of the most critical areas. Historical aspects of occupation and the most vulnerable socio-environmental aspects were raised, too, in order to validate the highlighted areas. This integration was enabled concerning the support of geoprocessing techniques. The results of this integration subsidized the mapping and spatial analysis of the affected areas in the city and the criticality in relation to the extreme hydrological events. Finally, it was possible to observe that the identification of the most critical affected areas does not mean the exhaustion of the subject. The location of these areas is directly linked to the sample that was used as the basis for analyses. The cultivation of the marine species of shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei has emerged as one of the segments that best develop in the Brazilian aquaculture, representing the agribusiness that grew the most in recent years. Regarding the economic importance of the farming of this species in Brazil, further studies on genetic improvement were conducted. A F2 segregating population consisting of 192 samples for each G1 and G2 families, from crossing inbred lines was used for the studies performed in the present work. The genetic linkage analysis was based on polymorphic markers derived from nine AFLP (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism) primers. Fourteen genetic linkage groups including 103 segregating polymorphic markers were constructed covering350 cMfor G1 and four genetic linkage groups including 59 markers were constructed covering300 cMfor G2. Simple marker analyses were performed among individuals evaluated phenotypically, finding markers linked to genes that may be potentially important and useful to assess characteristics of economic importance for traits related to weight and the disease IMN (idiopathic muscle necrosis). The statistical model including markers explained major proportion of phenotypic characteristic weight in relation to disease incidence IMN.

目的先天性心脏病(CHD)是一种在全球范围内高发的慢性疾病,通常在出生时或出生前确诊。由于诊断以及早期药物和手术治疗的条件较好,患者的生存率达到90%,并且生存时间不断延长,面临着生活中的各种挑战。该研究探讨了不同人口统计学、临床和心理社会变量对CHD青少年和年轻成人患者的生活质量(QOL)感知、心理社会适应和精神障碍患病率的影响,评估CHD青少年和年轻成人患者的生活质量、心理社会适应和精神障碍发病率,确定哪些变量(人口统计学、临床和心理社会变量)对缓解压力、促进恢复起到积极作用,哪些变量起到不良作用。方法该研究入组了150名CHD患者(男87例,女63例),年龄12～26岁(平均年龄:17.45±3.373岁)。对参与者进行了关于社会支持、家庭教育方式、自我形象、人口统计信息和生理限制等方面的访谈。他们对标准化精神病学访谈(SADS-L)中的问题进行了回答,并填写了自我报告问卷,以进行生活质量(WHOQOL-BREF)和心理社会适应(YSR/ASR)的评估。结果所有参与者精神障碍的终身患病率为18.7%(女性25.4%,男性13.8%)。57.1%的参与者有过留级(平均1.53±0.804年)。与整体葡萄牙人相比,CHD患者的生活质量感知在社会关系、环境、身体和总体方面较好。而女性、学习成绩差、较少的社会支持、复杂性CHD、紫绀型CHD、中重度残留病灶、接受过手术和有生理限制患者生活质量感知较差。除了紫绀,所有这些变量也会引起较差的心理社会适应。结论女性CHD患者及学习成绩差且获得社会支持少的CHD患者的心理社会适应和生活质量较差。
