several tasks related to geographical information retrieval and to the geographical information sciences involve toponym matching,that is,the problem of matching place names that share a common referent.In this article,we present the results of a wide-ranging evaluation on the performance of different string similarity metrics over the toponym matching task.We also report on experiments involving the usage of supervised machine learning for combining multiple similarity metrics,which has the natural advantage of avoiding the manual tuning of similarity thresholds.Experiments with a very large dataset show that the performance differences for the individual similarity metrics are relatively small,and that carefully tuning the similarity threshold is important for achieving good results.The methods based on supervised machine learning,particularly when considering ensembles of decision trees,can achieve good results on this task,significantly outperforming the individual similarity metrics.

The biosynthesis of isoprenoids in plant cells occurs from precursors produced in the cytosol by the mevalonate （MVA） pathway and in the plastid by the methylerythritol 4-phosphate （MEP） pathway, but little is known about the mechanisms coordinating both pathways. Evidence of the importance of sugar signaling for such coordination in Arabi- dopsis thaliana is provided here by the characterization of a mutant showing an increased accumulation of MEP-derived isoprenoid products （chlorophylls and carotenoids） without changes in the levels of relevant MEP pathway transcripts, proteins, or enzyme activities. This mutant was found to be a new loss-of-function allele of PRL1 （Pleiotropic Regulatory Locus 1）, a gene encoding a conserved WD-protein that functions as a global regulator of sugar, stress, and hormone responses, in part by inhibition of sNFl-related protein kinases （snRK1）. Consistent with the reported role of snRK1 kinases in the phosphorylation and inactivation of the main regulatory enzyme of the MVA pathway （hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme-A reductase）, its activity but not transcript or protein levels was reduced in prll seedlings. However, the accumulation of MVA-derived end products （sterols） was unaltered in mutant seedlings. sucrose supplementation to wild- type seedlings phenocopied the prll mutation in terms of isoprenoid metabolism, suggesting that the observed isoprenoid phenotypes result from the increased sugar accumulation in the prll mutant. In summary, PRL1 appears to coordinate isoprenoid metabolism with sugar, hormone, and stress responses.

In the present work, the synthesis of micro- and nano-sized spheres of metallic bismuth by microwave-assisted solvothermal method is reported. The synthesis method was carried out at different power levels and at a unique frequency of microwave irradiation. The sphere sizes were controlled by the microwave power level and the concentration of dissolved precursor. structural and morphological characterization was performed by sEM, HRTEM, EELs and XRD. The results demonstrated that rhombohedral zero valent Bi spheres were synthesized after microwave radiation at 600 and 1200 W. However, if the power level is decreased to 120 W, a monoclinic phase of Bi203 is obtained with a flake-like morphology. In comparison with a conventional hydrothermal process, the microwave-assisted solvothermal approach provides many advantages such as shorter reaction time, optimum manipulation of morphologies and provides a specific chemical phase and avoids the mixture of structural phases and morphologies which is essential for further applications such as drug delivery or functionalization with organic materials, thanks to its biocompatibility.

Lignin is a cheap, abundant and non-toxic group of complex phenolic polymers obtained in large amounts from the papermaking and cellulosic biofuel industries. Although the application of lignin has been ex- plored in these and several more industries, there are limited applications of lignin in the energy industry. However, numerous research revealed a great interest in the exploration of this renewable biopolymer in storage energy devices. some of these applications include the use of lignin as an expander for lead-acid batteries, electrodes for primary and rechargeable batteries, electrodes for electronic double layer capac- itors and electrochemical pseudocapacitors, and to feed different types of fuel cells. The use of lignin in energy storage devices improves not only the performance of these devices but also decreases the price and toxicity, contributing to obtaining greener energy devices. Based on the above, this review provides an overview of the main research work related to the use of lignin as a renewable component, suitable to replace some synthetic and toxic compounds used in the fabrication of energy storage devices with particular emphasis on batteries, advanced supercapacitors, and solar and fuel cells.

Anomozamites is a fossil-genus of leaf attributed to the Bennettitales, with a distribution mainly in the Kingdom of Laurasia and a stratigraphic range of the Upper Triassic to the Lower Cretaceous. In Mexico there were only reports of some specimens until the 1980s and later of four fossil-species at the beginning of the 21st century, all of them from the Jurassic in the Mixteco Terrane. In this review, three fossil-species of Anomozamites are identified: A. angustifolium is the first of them, which is a fossil-taxon with a range of the Rhaetian to Bajocian and Euramerican distribution;the second one is A. cf. triangularis, of which the geographic and stratigraphic extension of fossil-taxon is proposed;finally, we propose the existence of the A. sp.1, informally named, but with morphological characters that do not match the descriptions of Triassic/Jurassic fossil-taxa. These identifications were made based on macromorphology of the foliar organs and on the review of the diagnostic characters of both the fossil-genus and the fossil-species of taxonomic validity. Then, with this study, the taxonomic and phytogeographic knowledge of Anomozamites during the Jurassic period is increased and this allows reconsidering the amplitude of the Wielandiella distribution, a fossil-genus related to Anomozamites due to the existence of two fossil-taxa in organic connection.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, representing a major public health problem. There is still little information comparing the satisfaction of the patients who finished their process against the ones who start it but did not finish it. The aim of our retrospective study was to analyze the results in terms of satisfaction after one year of undergoing to complete breast reconstruction (CBR) vs incomplete breast reconstruction (IBR). Materials and Methods: Retrospective study of patients that underwent breast reconstruction (BR) surgery after mastectomy for breast cancer treatment. Performed at Hospital Central sur de Alta Especialidad PEMEX in Mexico City, including patients from January 1, 2015 to January 01, 2020. Demographic baseline variables were included. BREAsT-Q satisfaction questionnaires one year after the last reconstructive procedure were analyzed. Results: A total of 44 patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Of these 44 patients, 11 were included in the IBR group, and 33 patients in the CBR group. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of age (IBR 56.09 vs CBR 53.06 years, p = 0.321);BMI (IBR 27.94 vs CBR 26.40, p = 0.253), time from mastectomy to first reconstructive procedure (IBR 22.8 vs CBR 31 months, p = 0.957), history of chemotherapy (IBR 27.3% vs CBR 33.3%, p = 0.709) and radiotherapy (IBR 54.5% vs CBR 42.4%, p = 0.484), additionally type of reconstruction, affected side or complication rate were not significantly different. Regarding postoperative satisfaction, only the second module of satisfaction with breasts displayed statistically significant differences, with a higher score in the CBR group (46.27 vs 52.27, p = 0.019). Other items explored didn’t show significant differences. Pachycereus marginatus (DC.) Britton & Rose and Ibervillea sonorae (s. Watson) Greene have been used in the Mexican traditional medicine for the treatment of various diseases, including cancer. The present study aims to investigate the cytotoxic activity of these plants against a murine lymphoma. soxhlet extraction of dried and powdered plant material was performed with methanol. Also, a further partitioning of these methanolic extracts with hexane and ethyl acetate was achieved. The in vitro cytotoxic activity against the murine lymphoma L5178Y-R cell line was assessed via the colorimetric MTT assay. The methanol extract from P. marginatus exhibited high cytotoxic activity (up to 94%) at concentrations ranging from 3.9 to 500 μg/mL;however, hexane and ethyl acetate partitions from this methanolic extract showed lower but significant (p s derived from I. sonorae also showed significant (p st L5178Y-R cells at concentrations ranging from 7.81 to 500 μg/mL (methanolic extract up to 63% at 500 μg/mL;hexane partition up to 76% at 250 μg/mL;ethyl acetate partition up to 73% at 500 μg/mL). These results demonstrate that the methanol extracts and partitions from P. marginatus and I. sonorae possess significant cytotoxic activity against the murine lymphoma L5178Y-R and validate the ethnobotanical use of these plants for the treatment of diseases consistent with cancer symptomatology. Previous scientific reports describe the isolation of isoquinoline alkaloids of P. marginatus as well as cucurbitacins from I. sonorae, phytochemicals that could be responsible for their observed cytotoxic activity in this research. strong>Background:strong> Combinations of antibiotics are used to increase the therapeutic options via the simultaneous activities of two compounds. The goals of combination therapy are to resolve the bacterial infection while reducing the treatment cost. The use of kitasamycin is used frequently and in addition to other antibiotics, the desired combinations were not found. strong>Methods:strong> Fields strains: we use serotypes 1, 3, 5 y 7. Microbial culturing: The serotypes 1, 3, 5 y 7 was identified. Antibiotics and Reagents: The antibiotics used were kitasamycin;enrofloxacin and oxolinic acid. The following combinations were tested: a) kitasamycin with enrofloxacin;b) kitasamycin with norfloxacin;and c) kitasamycin with oxolinic acid. Preparation of bacterial suspensions: The cultures were adjusted to a concentration of 5 colony-forming units per ml (CFU/ml) using the same sterile culture medium as the diluent. Determination of the fractional inhibitory concentrations (FICs): To test each combination and their interactions and to calculate the fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) of each antibiotic. Calculation of the index of the fractional minimum inhibitory concentration (FMIC): The FMIC index was calculated by applying the following formula: FIC index = FIC of antibiotic A/FIC of antibiotic B. strong>Results:strong> What was found showed that: A combination of kitasamycin and norfloxacin has been shown to have an indifferent effect. A combination of kitasamycin and enrofloxacin had antagonistic effects against all of the Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotypes studied. Finally, a combination of kitasamycin and oxolinic acid had antagonist effects against serotypes 1, 3 and 5 and a synergistic effect against serotype 7. strong>Conclusion:strong> The “in vitro” combination Kitasamycin-Norfloxacin showed an indifferent effect, and combination Kitasamycin and Enrofloxacin demonstrated an antagonistic interaction between these two antibiotics.
