Polymers of intrinsic microporosity(PIms)have received considerable attention for making high-performance membranes for carbon dioxide separation over the last two decades,owing to their highly permeable porous ***,challenges regarding its relatively low selectivity,physical aging,and plasticisation impede relevant industrial adoptions for gas *** address these issues,several strategies including chain modification,post-modification,blending with other polymers,and the addition of fillers,have been developed and ***-1 is the most investigated PIms,and hence here we review the stateof-the-arts of the modification strategies of PIm-1 critically and discuss the progress achieved for addressing the aforementioned challenges via ***,the development of PIm-1-based thin film composite membranes is commented as well,shedding light on their potential in industrial gas *** hope that the review can be a timely snapshot of the relevant state-of-the-arts of PIms guiding future design and optimisation of PIms-based membranes for enhanced performance towards a higher technology readiness level for practical applications.

Solar stills represent a promising solution for desalinating saline waters, providing a sustainable alternative in regions with limited access to drinking water. This study evaluates the reliability of a two-dimensional (2D) numerical model of a solar still, developed using COmSOL® multiphysics software, focusing on a passive cascading device called “Pano Rano.” Two physical prototypes were constructed: one with a standard concrete basin and the other with acrylic plastic. The simulations revealed significant differences in theoretical yield based on the material used. With a radiation of 1200 W/m2, the acrylic prototype displayed an evaporation of 4455.53 mL/m2 and a production of 2925.98 mL/m2 of distilled water, while the concrete model showed an evaporation of 2109.95 mL/m2 and produced 1383.93 mL/m2 of distilled water. The results indicate that evaporation significantly exceeds condensation, highlighting an underutilized evaporation potential. The evaluation of the numerical model’s performance against experimental results was conducted using the mean squared error (mSE) and the coefficient of determination (R2). The best performance was observed in summer (mSE of 16.24;R2 of 0.95), while winter results were less convincing (mSE of 204.77;R2 of −2.78). This variability underscores the model’s limitations and the need for future research. The study also demonstrates that the choice of basin material significantly influences productivity, with acrylic plastic outperforming concrete in terms of thermal efficiency.

The physicochemical properties of liquid alternative fuels are important but difficult to measure/predict, especially when complex surrogate fuels are concerned. In the present work, machine learning is used to develop quantitative structure–property relationship models. The fuel chemical structure is represented by molecular descriptors, allowing the linking of important features of the fuel composition and key properties of fuel utilization. Feature selection is employed to select the most relevant features that describe the chemical structure of the fuel and several machine learning algorithms are tested to construct interpretable models. The effectiveness of the methodology is demonstrated through the development of accurate and interpretable predictive models for cetane numbers, with a focus on understanding the link between molecular structure and fuel properties. In this context, matrix-based descriptors and descriptors related to the number of atoms in the molecule are directly linked with the cetane number of hydrocarbons. Furthermore, the results showed that molecular connectivity indices play a role in the cetane number for aromatic molecules. Also, the methodology is extended to predict the cetane number of ester and ether molecules, leveraging the design of alternative fuels towards fully sustainable fuel utilization.

While many harmful algal blooms have been associated with increasing eutrophication, not all species respond similarly and the increasing challenge, especially for resource managers, is to determine which blooms are related to eutrophication and to understand why particular species proliferate under specific nutrient conditions. The overall goal of this brief review is to describe why nutrient loads are not changing in stoichiometric proportion to the "Redfield ratio", and why this has important consequences for algal growth. many types of harmful algae appear to be able to thrive, and/or increase their production of toxins, when nutrient loads are not in proportion classically identified as Redfield ratios. Here we also describe some of the physiological mechanisms of different species to take up nutrients and to thrive under conditions of nutrient imbalance.

The prostate is an accessory sex gland that develops under precise androgenic control. It is known that hormonal imbalance may disrupt its development predisposing this gland to develop diseases during aging. Although the hypothesis regarding earlier origins of prostate diseases was proposed many years ago, the mechanisms underlying this complex phenomenon are poorly understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the prostates of old male gerbils exposed to testosterone during intrauterine and postnatal life using morphological, biometrical, stereological, Kariometric, immunohistochemical, and immunofluorescence analyses. Our findings demonstrate that prenatal and pubertal exposure to testosterone increases the susceptibility to the development of prostate diseases during aging. The presence of a more proliferative gland associated with foci of adenomatous hyperplasia in animals exposed to testosterone during the prenatal and pubertal phase show that the utero life and the pubertal period are important phases for prostatic morphophysiology establishment, which is a determinant for the health of the gland during aging. Therefore, these findings reinforce the idea that prostate disease may result from hormonal disruptions in early events during prostate development, which imprint permanently on the gland predisposing it to develop lesions in later stages of life.

This study developed neural network potentials(NNPs)specifically tailored for pure ethylene and ethyleneammonia blended systems for the first *** NNPs were trained on a dataset generated from density func-tional theory(DFT)calculations,combining the computational accuracy of DFT with a calculation speed com-parable to reactive force field *** NNPs are employed in reactive molecular dynamics simulations to explore the thermal decomposition reaction mechanisms of ethylene and *** simulation results revealed that adding ammonia reduces the activation energy for ethylene decomposition,thereby accelerating ethylene ***,the addition of ammonia uncovers a new reaction pathway for hydrogen radical consumption,which reduces the occurrence of H-abstraction reactions from ethylene by hydrogen *** inhibition effect of ammonia addition on soot formation mainly acts in two aspects:on the one hand,ammonia decomposition products react with carbon-containing species,ultimately producing C_(1)-N products,thereby decreasing the carbon numbers involved in soot *** significantly reduces the concentrations of C_(5)-C_(9)molecules and key polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)precursors like C_(2)H_(2)and C_(3)H_(3).On the other hand,ammonia promotes the ring-opening reactions of six-membered carbon rings at high-temperature conditions,thereby reducing the formation of PAHs *** results show that with the addition of ammonia,six-membered carbon rings tend to convert into seven-membered carbon rings at lower temperatures,while at higher temperatures,they are more likely to transform into three-and five-membered carbon *** variations in the transformation of six-membered carbon rings may also affect soot *** insights gained from understanding these fundamental chemical reaction mechanisms can guide the development of ethylene-ammonia co-firing systems.

Background:The *** Force physical fitness assessment(PFA)is used to determine the overall fitness of their *** is currently unknown to what extent the PFA scores of Reserve Officers’Training Corps(ROTC)cadets are affected by mandatory physical *** purpose of this investigation was to longitudinally examine the PFAs of ROTC cadets over a four-year period,evaluate the results across class ranks,and evaluate the sensitivity of the classification of the ***:Air Force ROTC cadets performed the PFAs(abdominal circumference,1-min pushups,1-min sit-ups,and a 1.5-mile run)in both the spring(n=26)and fall(n=22)*** were compiled over a four-year period(Spring 2014–Fall 2017)and were performed in accordance with Air Force Instruction 36–2905.A oneway repeated measures ANOVA was performed separately for the fall and spring groups for each dependent variable across the 4 ***,a one-way between groups ANOVA was performed for each dependent variable during the time point(fall 2015;n=46)with the most recorded cadets for each class ***:Longitudinal assessments revealed a main effect of time(P=0.010)on abdominal circumference;cadets had a smaller abdominal circumference in their freshman year than in their senior year.A main effect of time(P=0.006)was also observed on sit-up quantity;cadets performed more sit-ups in their junior year than in their freshman *** between class ranks during the same year(between-subjects ANOVA)revealed a main effect of class rank on sit-up quantity(P=0.003);the freshmen completed fewer repetitions than the sophomores(P=0.018)and the juniors did(P=0.001).Conclusions:The results indicated that only the sit-up component showed differences between class *** findings suggest that the Air Force PFA may not be sensitive enough to detect changes in physical fitness or distinguish between class ranks regarding physical performance,even after years of *** limitation may b
