Corynespora cassiicola is the causal agent of Corynespora Leaf Fall(CLF)*** is one of the most important fungal diseases of rubber trees in Asia and Africa but disease outbreaks have not been reported in South ***,a small cysteine-rich glycoprotein secreted by the pathogenic *** isolate CCP,was previously identified as a potential disease effector in rubber ***,the cassiicolin-encoding gene(Cas1)was characterized and shown to be expressed in the early phase of *** this study,we investigated whether previously undetected strains of *** are present in South American rubber plantations by examining the fungal endophyte population found in asymptomatic rubber tree *** isolates were identified as *** encoding new forms of the cassiicolin precursor protein(Cas3 and Cas4)were identified from these *** of four isolates were able to induce symptoms on the cultivar they were isolated from in a detached leaf assay,with different kinetics and *** isolate had the same pathogenicity profile as the pathogenic isolate CCP;the other two isolates developed symptoms late during the course of infection,suggesting saprotrophic ***,no Cas3 or Cas4 transcripts could be detected upon inoculation with the endophytic isolates,whereas the reference gene Cas1 was expressed upon inoculation with the CCP *** work demonstrated that *** is present in South America in an endophytic form and that it may evolve from an endophytic to a saprophytic or even potentially pathogenic life style.

this case report describes the clinical characteristics and management of a 38-year-old man with cephalic tetanus. He presented with a massive facial infection after a dental procedure. After induction of anesthesia, cephalic tetanus was clinically diagnosed during induction based on the presence of a new facial nerve palsy and nuchal rigidity even after the administration of succinylcholine. the first attempt at intubation was unsuccessful with a Macintosh laryngoscope due to persistent nuchal rigidity and lockjaw despite the use of succinylcholine. Consistent with other reports, intubation was remarkably uncomplicated when the video laryngoscope was used. Postoperatively, the Clostridium tetani infection progressed to generalized tetanus and responded to supportive care. this case highlights the difficulties of diagnosis, and supports the utility of the Glidescopetm video laryngoscope in this unusual pathological condition.

Worldwide, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. In men, it is the fifth most common cancer and seventh most common in women;HCC is the second highest cause of cancer-related death worldwide. It is less prevalent in the USA and Northern Europe and more prevalent in Eastern and South-Eastern Asia. Over 700,000 cases are diagnosed each year - half of which occur in China - and result in roughly the same number of deaths per year. HCC significantly impairs quality of life and is associated with great costs to society. It is estimated that half of the deaths from HCC are associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV). Fortunately, HBV vaccination and antiviral therapy have shown excellent efficacy in decreasing the incidence of HCC. We will discuss the relationship of HBV to HCC, address available treatments for HBV and the impact of treatment on the development of HCC.

Differential Susceptibility of Conyza bonariensisBiotypes to Glyphosate and ALS-Inhibiting Herbicides in Argentina

the aim of this study was to compare control of three stages biotypes (rosette, bolting, and repro- ductive stage) of Conyza bonariensis glyphosate susceptible biotype (S) and tolerant biotype (t) to glyphosate with glyphosate and mixtures of acetolactate synthase (ALS)-inhibiting. For glyphosate, the dose-response curves confirmed that injury of the biotype t relative to biotype S was signifi- cantly lower for both rosette and bolting stages. Resistance index (RI) for this herbicide was approximately 4 for both weed stages. At bolting, for both biotypes doses much higher than the recommended dose were required. For acetolactate synthase (ALS)-inhibiting herbicides, at the rosette stage, control of both biotypes was excellent with doses significantly lower than the recommended rate. All herbicides within this group showed a very low I50 relative to the recommended rate. these results indicate that biotypes difficult to control with glyphosate at the rosette and bolting stage may be controlled using acetolacte synthase (ALS)-inhibiting herbicides. Control for the reproductive stage was poor. A management program based on the combination of glyphosate with pre- and post-emergence acetolactate synthase (ALS) herbicides may be effective to control the weed.

Volatility in High-Frequency Intensive Care Mortality time Series: Application of Univariate and Multivariate GARCH Models

Mortality time series display time-varying volatility. the utility of statistical estimators from the financial time-series paradigm, which account for this characteristic, has not been addressed for high-frequency mortality series. Using daily mean-mortality series of an exemplar intensive care unit (ICU) from the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society adult patient database, joint estimation of a mean and conditional variance (volatility) model for a stationary series was undertaken via univariate autoregressive moving average (ARMA, lags (p, q)), GARCH (Generalised Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity, lags (p, q)). the temporal dynamics of the conditional variance and correlations of multiple provider series, from rural/ regional, metropolitan, tertiary and private ICUs, were estimated utilising multivariate GARCH models. For the stationary first differenced series, an asymmetric power GARCH model (lags (1, 1)) with t distribution (degrees-of- freedom, 11.6) and ARMA (7,0) for the mean-model, was the best-fitting. the four multivariate component series demonstrated varying trend mortality decline and persistent autocorrelation. Within each MGARCH series no model specification dominated. the conditional correlations were surprisingly low (tween tertiary series and substantial (0.4 - 0.6) between rural-regional and private series. the conditional-variances of both the univariate and multivariate series demonstrated a slow rate of time decline from periods of early volatility and volatility spikes.

High-latitude terrestrial ecosystems face the triple threats of climate warming,increased exposure to UV arising from polar ozone depletion,and *** communities of southernmost Chile are recognized for their high diversity,which includes nitrogen-fixing *** lichens are common on forest trees,contribute nitrogen to forests,and are sensitive to exposure following deforestation(widespread in this region).In a pilot study of exposure effects on tree lichens,using nondestructive imaging methods,we compared lichen communities on trunks of isolated *** tree trunks of southern Chilean beech(Nothofagus dombeyi,Nothofagaceae).We chose trees of similar diameter and trunk lean angle in conserved forest and nearby logged meadow on Navarino Island,XII Region Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica,Chile,within the annual southern ozone ***-five percent of cyanolichen records,including Nephroma antarcticum,and 66%of records for other foliose lichens were from the forest,whereas pendulous usneoid lichens dominated *** bark at the meadow *** of cyanolichen growth on isolated trees could affect ecosystem function in this poorly studied *** factors contributing to strong community differences were increased light intensity,UV radiation,and wind stress,plus limited ability of lichens to colonize isolated trees in the logged *** radiation was likely an important stressor for some lichen species but not *** recommend more extensive monitoring to pinpoint causes of differing lichen communities,and we encourage better protection of bark-dwelling lichens in southern hemisphere regions facing multiple threats.

Many carnivores require large ranges to meet their ecological and energetic needs;however,anthropogenic changes threaten species and their *** traps have been used to effectively collect data on carnivores in a variety of habitat types;however,a single survey effort is typically limited to species that have similar body size,habitat use and movement patterns,and individual identification of animals is not always pos*** evaluated whether scat detection dogs could effectively survey for 4 wide-ranging felids that vary in these characteristics:jaguars(Panthera onca),pumas(Puma concolor),ocelots(Leopardus pardalis)and oncillas(Leopardus tigrinus).From June to October 2009 and May to August 2011,a detection dog-handler team detected 588 scats,from which 176 unique genotypes were *** assigned sex to 84.7%of the genotyped scats and identified 55 individuals multiple *** effectiveness of these noninvasive techniques(detection dogs and genetic analyses of scat)not only opens the door for additional studies in areas that were previously difficult or impossible with standard survey techniques,but also provides conservationists with a set of tools that overcome some of the limitations associated with the use of camera traps alone.

trong>Objective:trong> the aim of this piece of work is to study the contribution of pelvic ultrasound while exploring pelvic pathologies at Hubert Koutoukou Maga teaching University Hospital “CNHU-HKM” and at the teaching University Hospital of Mother and Child “CHU-MEL” of Cotonou. trong>Patients and Methods:trong> A descriptive, cross-sectional and analytical study with prospective collec-tion was carried out at the University Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics “CUGO” at the CNHU-HKM and in the gynecology department of the CHU-MEL, over a period of 4 months (May to August 2018). We included in this study women over 12 years old who performed a pelvic ultrasound and were followed in the aforementioned health centers. trong>Results:trong> the population of the study consisted of 181 patients. the pelvic ultrasound request frequency was 18.84% compared to all ultrasound examinations. the age group of 25 - 29 years old was the most represented (22.10%). Pelvic pain was the first mo-tive for pelvic ultrasound request (39.8%). the abnormalities found by ultra-sound were uterine and ovarian respectively in 55.4% and 38% of cases. Uter-ine pathology was dominated by uterine myoma (44%). Ovarian cyst (13%) and ovarian dystrophy (14%) were the main ovarian pathologies. there was a statistically significant relationship between certain reasons for consultation, mainly metrorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, amenorrhoea, leucorrhoea (p the ultrasound result. trong>Conclusion:trong> the ultrasound remains the first choice examination and is of a great value in exploring pelvic pathologies. In most cases, it helps to find the responsible lesion and to make the appropriate ther-apeutic decisions.
