Recently,multivalent aqueous calcium-ion batteries(CIBs)have attracted considerable attention as a possible alternative to Li-ion ***,traditional Ca-ion storage materials show either limited rate capabilities and poor cycle life or insufficient specific ***,we tackle these limitations by exploring materials having a large interlayer distance to achieve decent specific capacities and one-dimensional architecture with adequate Ca-ion passages that enable rapid reversible(de)intercalation *** this work,we report the high-yield,rapid,and low-cost synthesis of 1D metal oxides MV_(3)O_(8)(M=Li,K),CaV_(2)O_(6),and CaV_(6)O_(16)·7H_(2)O(CVO)via a molten salt ***,using 1D CVO as electrode materials,we show high capacity 205 mA h g^(-1),long cycle life(>97%capacity retention after 200 cycles at 3.0 C),and high-rate performance(117 mA h g^(-1) at 12 C)for Ca-ion(de)*** work represents a step forward for the development of the molten salt method to synthesize nanomaterials and to help pave the way for the future growth of Ca-ion batteries.

Computational modeling methods,including molecular dynamics(MD)and Monte Carlo(MC)simulations,and density functional theory(DFT),are receiving booming interests for exploring charge storage mechanisms of electrochemical energy storage *** methods can effectively be used to obtain molecular scale local information or provide clear explanations for novel experimental findings that cannot be directly interpreted through experimental *** short review is dedicated to emphasizing recent advances in computational simulation methods for exploring the charge storage mechanisms in typical nanoscale materials,such as nanoporous carbon materials,2 D MXene materials,and metal-organic framework *** a better understanding of charge storage mechanisms and experimental observations,fast and accurate enough models would be helpful to provide theoretical guidance and experimental basis for the design of new high-performance electrochemical energy storage devices.

MXenes are two-dimensional transition metal carbides and/or nitrides with unique physiochemical properties and have attracted extensive interest in numerous ***,current MXene synthesis methods are limited by hazardous synthesis conditions,high production costs,or difficulty in largescale ***,a general,safe,cost-effective,and scalable synthesis method for MXenes is ***,we report the fast synthesis of MXenes in the open air using a molten salt-shielded synthesis(MS^(3))method,which uses Lewis-acid salts as etchants and a low-melting-point eutectic salt mixture as the reaction medium and shield to prevent MXene oxidation at high *** and nitride MXenes,including Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x),Ti_(2)CT_(x),Ti_(3)CNT_(x),and Ti_(4)N_(3)T_(x),were successfully synthesized using the MS^(3) *** also present the flexibility of the MS^(3) method by scaling the etching process to large batches of 20 and 60 g of Ti_(3)AlC_(2) MAX precursor in one *** used as negative electrodes,the prepared MS^(3)-MXenes delivered excellent electrochemical properties for high-rate Li-ion storage.

Perovskite SrVO_(3) has been investigated as a promising lithium storage anode where the V cation plays the role of the redox center,combining excellent cycle stability and safe operating potential versus Li metal plating,with limited ***,we demonstrate the possibility to boost the lithium storage properties,by reducing the non-redox active Sr cation content and fine-tuning the O anion vacancies while maintaining a non-stoichiometric Sr_(x)VO_(3-δ) perovskite *** investigations suggest that Sr vacancy can work as favorable Li^(+) storage sites and preferential transport channels for guest Li^(+) ions,contributing to the increased specific capacity and rate *** contrast,inducing O anion vacancy in Sr_(x)VO_(3-δ) can improve rate performance while compromising the specific *** experimental results confirm the enhancement of specific capacities by fine adjusting the Sr and O vacancies,with a maximum capacity of 444 mAh g^(-1) achieved with Sr_(0.63)VO_(3-δ),which is a 37%increase versus stoichiometric SrVO_(3).Although rich defects have been induced,Sr_(x)VO_(3-δ) electrodes maintain a stable perovskite structure during cycling versus a LiFePO_(4) cathode,and the full-cell could achieve more than 6000 discharge/charge cycles with 80%capacity *** result highlights the possibility to use the cation defective-based engineering approach to design high-capacity perovskite oxide anode materials.

Fe（3–x）O4 raspberry shaped nanostructures/graphene nanocomposites were synthesized by a one-step polyol-solvothermal method to be tested as electrode materials for Li-ion battery（LIB）. Indeed, Fe（3–x）O4 raspberry shaped nanostructures consist of original oriented aggregates of Fe（3–x）O4 magnetite nanocrystals, ensuring a low oxidation state of magnetite and a hollow and porous structure, which has been easily combined with graphene sheets. The resulting nanocomposite powder displays a very homogeneous spatial distribution of Fe（3–x）O4 nanostructures at the surface of the graphene sheets. These original nanostructures and their strong interaction with the graphene sheets resulted in very small capacity fading upon Li＋ion intercalation. Reversible capacity, as high as 660 m Ah/g, makes this material promising for anode in Li-ion batteries application.

Objective: In the context of increasing cases despite vaccination campaigns, a survey was conducted in the Bangui population from January 17 to 26, 2022, to evaluate the strains of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection Coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) circulating in a healthy population. Materials and methods: This study was conducted by taking nasopharyngeal samples from randomly selected volunteers. Antigen detection was performed systematically, and RT-PCR was done on the positive samples. Results and discussion: We collected 2,554 samples. Thirty were found RT-PCR positive (1.2%) and sent for viral genome sequencing. Twenty-eight SARS-Cov-2 strains belonged to the Omicron type, and only 2 to the Delta type. Conclusion: Thus, infections were uncommon in the tested population, but the presence of Omicron and Delta types raises concerns that vaccination may not be effective in fighting the virus, and newly designed vaccines should be implemented to better protect the population at risk of infection and reinfection by these variants.

Assessment of Spermatic Chromatin Decondensation by the Toluidine Blue Assay in Infertile Patients in Cotonou

Background: A high level of sperm chromatin decondensation results in loss of DNA quality and it is associated with poor embryonic prognosis in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). This had lead to introduction of sperm DNA compaction testing in assessment of clinical male infertility. Toluidine blue assay is one of most commonly used tests to measure chromatin decondensation in research studies and also in clinical routine use. So the objective of our study was to assess the level of sperm chromatin decondensation by toluidine blue assay in men dealing with couple infertility. Methods: The sperm samples of 96 patients referred for infertility, over a 4-month period from September 2020 to January 2021, were stained with toluidine blue and observed under an optical microscope. These were evaluated according to the World Health Organization. Results: The 25 - 34 age group was the most represented among infertile men. There was a non-significant correlation between age and the level of spermatic chromatin condensation (r = 0.0348). Spermatic parameters had averages above standards norms, apart from that of low vitality. Spermatic chromatin decondenization affected 96% of infertile patients. Asthenozoospermia was the most common abnormality. Among standard parameters of spermogram, only the concentration of spermatozoa in the semen was weakly correlated (r = 0.18) with sperm chromatin decondensation. Conclusion: The level of sperm chromatin condensation is, on the one hand, a parameter independent of the age of the subject; on the other hand, allows to evaluate male infertility, like the classic parameters of the spermogram and spermocytogram. However, in view of the high probability of changes in the nuclear quality of sperm intrinsic to the analysis process and sperm concentration, an improvement of the toluidine blue test using the swim-up technique and associated with image processing software is possible.

This study presents the ore texture, mineralogy and whole rock geochemistry of iron occurrence from the Edea North area located at the upper limit of the Nyong Unit, part of the Congo craton. This iron mineralization is of magnetite quartzite type enclosed by metamorphic rocks of the granulite facies. Two main facies have been identified over the study area including the banded and the massive facies. The mineralogical set of these facies is in majority represented by magnetite, quartz and pyroxene martite in addition to minor biotite, apatite, and amphibole. Magnetite presents as irregular and elongated minerals which can contain quartz inclusions of various shapes and sizes, as blasts clustering, around pyroxenes and isolated xenomorphic magnetite minerals in the silicate phases. Quartz varies from fine to coarse-grained and ribbon quartz. This indicates re-crystallization and deformation during metamorphism. Electron microprobe analysis on magnetite and martite show Fe2O3 contents that vary between 96.11 and 99.76. Whole rock chemical data showed that Fe-contents are as high as 62.9 wt%. The SiO2 content varies between 33.8 wt% and 51.2 wt%. Iron oxides and SiO2 are negatively correlated. Moreover, the low positive correlations between Al2O3 and HFSE, and LILE suggest a contribution of clastic materials in the protolith of studied materials. The samples show low contents of V, Cr, Ba, Zr with respect to igneous rocks. This may infer a sedimentary origin for the studied rocks;furthermore, these materials may have undergone hydrothermal alteration. The REE patterns reveal enrichment in LREE compared to HREE. Some samples show positive Eu (1.82) and other negative anomalies Eu (0.54 to 0.97). The lack of Ce anomalies suggests that the depositional environment of the Edea North iron occurrence was anoxic or suboxic. Overall, the Edea North iron occurrence may have undergone significant input from hydrothermal sources with imprints of the clastic during its deposition

Epidemiology and Clinical Signs of Gynecological Cancers in an African Country South of the Sahara: Case of the Republic of Benin in 2022

Introduction: Gynaecological cancers are the deadliest of the women’s cancers in the Republic of Benin. Late diagnosis is the most common reason. Objective: This paper aims to describe the epidemiological characteristics, and clinical and pathological signs of gynaecological cancers treated in the Republic of Benin between 2018 and 2022. Patients and Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospectively collected study of patient data treated between 2018 and 2022 in two university gynaecology departments in Cotonou. All gynaecological cancers that have histological evidence were included. The epidemiological, clinical and pathological characteristics of the cancers were assessed. Results: Cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancers were the most common in the proportions of 62.0%, 24.1%, 12.0% and 1.8% respectively. The mean age at diagnosis was 54 years. The victims were uneducated and had low economic power in 81% and 85% of cases, respectively. The consultation was late in 82.1% of cases. Metrorrhagia, postmenopausal metrorrhagia and pelvic cluster headache were the common reasons for consultation for cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancer, respectively. Diagnosis was late in 66.7% (n = 71). The most common histological types were squamous cell carcinoma, endometrioid adenocarcinoma, and serous cystadenocarcinoma for cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancers, respectively. Conclusion: Gynaecological cancers were common and their consultation time was delayed. The diagnosis was made at the advanced stage and there were several reasons for this.
