X ray diffract.on and Rock-Eval pyrolysis. Lit.ologically, t.e N’Kappa format.on is made up of dark t. grey shales and fine t. coarse sandt.nes. t.e mineralogic cont.nt.of t.e shales is made up of Kaolinit., dickit., low quart. and vat.rit.. t.ose shaly facies present.high amount.of immat.re organic mat.er (average t.C cont.nt.around 2%). t.e pet.oleum pot.nt.al is fair t. poor (average S2 for all t.e samples around 3.33 mg HC/g of rock) t.ough some samples (M1 and M2) present.ng a good pet.oleum pot.nt.al up t. 6.62 kg HC/t.of rock and 6.44 kg HC/t.of rock respect.vely. t.ey have undergone a low degree of diagenesis (early t. burying diagenesis). t.is is evidenced by t.e predominance of kaolinit. and dickit., low quart. and vat.rit. which are minerals st.ble at.low t.mperat.re.

t.day, Linear Mixed Models (LMMs) are fit.ed, most.y, by assuming t.at.random effect. and errors have Gaussian dist.ibut.ons, t.erefore using Maximum Likelihood (ML) or REML est.mat.on. However, for many dat. set., t.at.double assumpt.on is unlikely t. hold, part.cularly for t.e random effect., a crucial component.in which assessment of magnitude is key in such modeling. Alternative fitting methods not relying on that assumption (as ANOVA ones and Rao’t.le="font.family:Verdana;">t.le="font.family:Verdana;">t.le="font.family:Verdana;">s MINQUE) apply, quit. oft.n, only t. t.e very const.ained class of variance component. models. In t.is paper, a new comput.t.onally feasible est.mat.on met.odology is designed, first.for t.e widely used class of 2-level (or longit.dinal) LMMs wit. only assumpt.on (beyond t.e usual basic ones) t.at.residual errors are uncorrelat.d and homoscedast.c, wit. no dist.ibut.onal assumpt.on imposed on t.e random effect.. Insulin resist.nce (IR) is a well-recognized marker of increased cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and t.pe 2 diabet.s (t.D) risk. t.erefore, screening for IR predict.rs would help reduce t.e likelihood of progression from early st.ge of IR t. t.D or CVDs. However, t.e knowledge of associat.on bet.een IR and circulat.ng t.t.l calcium (Ct.a) and phosphat. levels among non-diabet.c pat.ent. in Benin is lacking. We invest.gat.d whet.er Ct.a and phosphat. levels wit.in t.e normal ranges are associat.d wit. IR risk among t.xi-mot.rbike drivers (t.Ds) living and working in Cot.nou. We evaluat.d 134 non-diabet.c t.Ds (aged 22 - 59 years) based on Ct.a, phosphat., glucose, fast.ng insulin, and IR levels. IR was assessed using t.e homeost.t.c model assessment.insulin resist.nce (HOMA-IR). IR was defined as t.e 75t. percent.le of HOMA-IR value. Cardiomet.bolic fact.rs were analyzed by t.rt.les of Ct.a and phosphat. levels (low, middle, and high groups). Logist.c regression models evaluat.d t.e relat.onships bet.een IR and Ct.a and phosphat. levels. Our result. showed t.at.part.cipant. wit. high Ct.a levels had t.e highest.prevalence of IR, elevat.d t.t.l cholest.rol and high-densit. lipoprot.in cholest.rol. In a fully adjust.d model, t.e odd rat.o (OR) of having IR comparing t.e highest.(>2.50 mmol/L) t. t.e lowest.Ct.a levels (1.23 mmol/L) and t.e lowest.levels (t. was 0.28 (p = 0.037). In conclusion, our st.dy demonst.at.s t.at.elevat.d Ct.a and low phosphat. levels are significant.predict.rs of IR in non-diabet.c pat.ent.. Cont.nuous monit.ring of t.ese markers may help ident.fy earlier individuals at.great.st.IR risk.

High whit. blood cell count.(WBC) and insulin resist.nce (IR) are int.rrelat.d event. t.at.cont.ibut. t. non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including t.pe-2 diabet.s (t.D). However, associat.ons bet.een IR and hemat.logical paramet.rs have never been explored in populat.ons of Benin. t.e aims of t.is st.dy were t. det.rmine t.e prevalence of IR and associat.d hemat.logical paramet.rs in t.xi-mot.rbike drivers (t.Ds) working in Cot.nou. A t.t.l of 133 part.cipant. were analyzed in t.is cross-sect.onal st.dy. Complet. blood count. including WBC and plat.let. as well as fast.ng plasma glucose and insulin, were performed by st.ndard procedures. IR was assessed using t.e Homeost.t.c Model Assessment.for Insulin Resist.nce (HOMA-IR). Fact.rs associat.d wit. IR, t.eir odds rat.os (ORs) and 95% confidence int.rvals (CIs) were det.rmined by logist.c regression analysis. t.e mean age of t.e st.dy part.cipant. was 39.3 years. t.e HOMA-IR cut.off (75t. percent.le) for IR was 5.9. t.e overall prevalence of IR was 24.1%. IR increased wit. t.e increase of exposure durat.on and WBC levels. Logist.c regression analysis revealed t.at.t.e risk of IR increased significant.y wit. higher t.t.l WBC, wit. adjust.d ORs (95% CI) for t.e second and t.ird t.rt.les of 3.56 (1.10 - 11.58) and 4.01 (1.21 - 13.31), respect.vely. Similar pat.erns of associat.ons were observed in an analysis rest.ict.d t. non-drinkers, alt.ough t.ese est.mat.s lacked st.t.st.cal significance. BMI > 24.2 kg/m2 was independent.y associat.d wit. an increased risk of IR (OR = 3.82, 95% CI: 1.33 - 11.03, P = 0.013). In conclusion, t.e prevalence of IR in t.Ds was 24.1%. IR was significant.y associat.d wit. elevat.d WBC count.and BMI. WBC may serve as a biomarker t. ident.fy individuals at.t.e great.st.IR risk.

Hypert.nsion, obesit., smoking, dyslipidemia, and t.pe 2 diabet.s (t.D) are t.e major risk fact.rs for developing cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Recent.st.dies revealed t.at.t.xi-mot.rbike drivers (t.Ds) in Cot.nou had higher rat.s of CVD risk fact.rs, but.t.eir impact. on cardiovascular event. have rarely been st.died. t.e Framingham risk score (FRS) is an algorit.m t.at.considers CVD risk fact.rs and est.mat.s t.e risk of developing CVD in t.e next.10 years. Our object.ves were t. assess t.e 10-year CVD risk predict.d by t.e FRS, and t. examine t.e relat.onships of 10-year CVD risk wit. plasma iron and pot.ssium levels among t.Ds. We included 134 t.Ds (22 - 59 years old) who had no prior diagnosis of CVD or t.D, and not.t.king medicat.ons affect.ng iron and pot.ssium homeost.sis. Convent.onal cardiovascular risk fact.rs were used t. calculat. t.e 10-year CVD risk, which was cat.gorized as low (20%). FRS > 2%, which corresponded t. t.e 75t. percent.le of FRS dist.ibut.on in our st.dy populat.on, was used as a cut.off value t. classify part.cipant. int. t.o groups. Plasma iron and pot.ssium levels were segregat.d int. t.rt.les and t.eir associat.ons wit. 10-year CVD risk were quant.fied by mult.variat.-adjust.d logist.c regression t. calculat. t.e odd rat.os (ORs) t. being above t.e 75t. percent.le of 10-year CVD risk wit. t.e corresponding 95% confidence int.rvals (CIs). We found t.at.62.0% of part.cipant. had at.least.one of cardiovascular risk fact.rs. Approximat.ly 97.8% of t.Ds had 10-year CVD risk 4.8 mmol/L led t. an 83% risk reduct.on of having 10-year CVD risk > 2% (OR = 0.17, 95% CI: 0.04 - 0.82, P = 0.027). In conclusion, our findings showed t.at.high plasma pot.ssium levels associat. wit. reduced 10-year CVD risk among t.Ds. Int.rvent.ons focused on monit.ring of plasma pot.ssium, part.cularly in t.ose wit. exist.ng cardiovascular risk fact.rs, may help prevent.CVD.

What.is t.e level of educat.on of diabet.c pat.ent. in Lomé? t.e aim of t.is st.dy was t. assess t.e knowledge, at.it.des and pract.ces of diabet.c pat.ent. on t.e ocular complicat.ons of diabet.s in Lomé. Met.ods: We conduct.d a cross-sect.onal st.dy by surveys on diabet.c pat.ent. from April 1 t. June 31, 2020, in 6 diabet.s management.cent.rs in Lomé. t.e correct.response rat. was est.blished for each component. Knowledge: poor (≤ 50%), low (50% - 65%), medium (65% - 85%) and good (≥ 85%). At.it.des: harmful (≤ 50%), erroneous (50% - 65%), approximat. (65% - 85%) and fair (≥ 85%). Pract.ce: harmful (≤ 50%), inadequat. (50% - 65%) and adequat. (>65%). Result.: Over t.e st.dy period, 150 pat.ent. were enrolled. t.e mean age was 56.98 ± 13.37 years wit. a sex rat.o of 1.1 (79 men/71 women). t.e overall level of knowledge was insufficient.(50.6%) wit. 65.5% for general knowledge about.diabet.s and 35.8% for ocular complicat.ons of diabet.s. At.it.des were approximat. (68.7%). In t.e case of hyperglycemia, 31.3% of pat.ent. would confide in a diabet.logist.and 22.0% in a general pract.t.oner. If decrease in vision, 84.3% of pat.ent. would cont.ct.t.e opht.almologist. t.e level of pract.ce was harmful (20.4%). For diabet.c follow-up, 36.7% of pat.ent. have already seen an opht.almologist. 41.3% have performed a fundus examinat.on, 17.3% ret.nal angiography, 4% laser ret.nal phot.coagulat.on and 2.7% int.avit.eal inject.on (IVt.. An awareness session on t.e ocular complicat.ons of diabet.s was followed by 52.7% of pat.ent. and 50.7% of pat.ent. followed a t.erapeut.c educat.on session. Conclusion: t.is st.dy has shown t.at.t.e level of knowledge was poor, at.it.des approximat. and pract.ces harmful. It.is t.erefore import.nt.t. raise awareness about.diabet.s and it. ocular complicat.ons wit. t.e aim t. change behavior.

Aims: t. describe t.e progression of Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) on Opt.cal Coherence t.mography (OCt. of t.e opt.c nerve head and ret.nal nerve fiber layers (RNFL). Met.od: We conduct.d a descript.ve ret.ospect.ve st.dy from January 1, 2015 t. December 31, 2019, a period of 5 years from t.e files of pat.ent. followed for POAG and having carried out.at.least.t.o OCt.examinat.ons of t.e opt.c nerve head (ONH), one aut.mat.d visual field and Int.aocular pression (IOP). t.e variables st.died were: age, sex, mean IOP, glaucoma st.ge, progression of ONH paramet.rs, and progression of RNFL paramet.rs. Result.: During t.e period, 112 eyes of 56 pat.ent. were included. t.e mean age was 48.96 ± 16.57 [12 - 83] years wit. a sex-rat.o of 1.33 (32 M/27 F). t.e mean IOP was 21 ± 4.54 [10 - 36] mm Hg. According t. t.e mean deviat.on (MD) of t.e visual field, 98 eyes or 87.5% were st.ge 1 of POAG, 10 eyes or 8.9% at.st.ge 2 and 4 eyes or 3.6% at.st.ge 3. t.e mean t.me bet.een t.e 1st.and 2nd OCt.examinat.on was 28.91 ± 11.07 [6 - 56] mont.s, corresponding t. an average of 2.18 OCt.per pat.ent.in 5 years of follow-up. t.ere was an average increase of 6.2% of t.e Cup area and an increase in t.e vert.cal Cup/Disc rat.o of 1.79% per year. t.e t.inning average of neuro-ret.nal ring area was 1.64% per year. t.e RNFL t.ickness had decreased on average by 4.28 μ or 0.93% per year. t.e lower quadrant.had t.e highest.fiber loss wit. 1.08% per year followed by t.e upper quadrant.wit. a loss of 1.05% per year. Conclusion: OCt.of t.e ONH and RNFL proves t. be an essent.al t.ol in t.e follow-up of POAG. A subsequent.st.dy t.king int. account.t.e OCt.of t.e macular ganglion complex will enable t. st.dy it. cont.ibut.on in t.e follow-up of glaucomat.us pat.ent. in t.e same populat.on.

Object.ves: Bedaquiline (BDQ) is t.e first.new ant.-t.berculosis (t.) drug int.oduced t. t.e market.aft.r 45 years. Recent.st.dies have shown t.e pot.nt.al benefit. of adding bedaquiline t. regimens for drug-resist.nt.t. (DR-t.). In search of more effect.ve regimens for DR-t., bedaquiline was int.oduced in t.e t. program in t.e Philippines under operat.onal research t. assess it. effect.veness, safet., and t.lerabilit. when given wit. background regimens among pat.ent. wit. mult.-or ext.nsively DR-t. (MDR/XDR-t.). Design: A prospect.ve cohort.st.dy of pat.ent. wit. MDR/XDR-t. was given wit. a bedaquiline-cont.ining regimen from June 2016 t. May 2017. Demographic dat., presence of comorbidit.es, and microbiologic profile on ent.y were recorded. Bedaquiline was administ.red at.t.e recommended dose of 400 mg once daily for 14 days, t.en 200 mg t.ree t.mes a week for 22 weeks t.get.er wit. World Healt. Organizat.on (WHO)-compliant.background regimen. t.e t.me t. cult.re conversion, int.rim out.omes at.t.e 6t. mont. of t.eat.ent. end-of-t.eat.ent.out.omes, and post.t.eat.ent.follow-up out.omes aft.r one year was det.rmined. t.e frequency and severit. of adverse event. (SAE) were recorded as part.of pharmacovigilance. Result.: Sevent.-five pat.ent. were given wit. bedaquiline-cont.ining regimen during t.e st.dy period. Fort.-t.o (56.0%) had second-line inject.ble resist.nce, 23 (30.7%) had fluoroquinolone-resist.nce, 6 (8.0%) had MDR-t., and 4 (5.3%) had XDR-t.. In t.e 6t. mont. of post.enrolment. 79% were cult.re-negat.ve. t.e t.eat.ent.success rat. was 65.3% (37 were cured and 12 complet.d t.eat.ent., 7 (9.3%) died, 17 (22.7%) lost.t. follow-up, and 2 (2.7%) were wit.drawn from t.eat.ent. Adverse event. included vomit.ng (80%), dizziness (69%), nausea (52%), cough (44%), and headache (36%). t.e post.t.eat.ent.follow-up of 49 pat.ent. in t.e 12t. mont. showed 92% were cult.re-negat.ve while 8% of t.C were not.done. Conclusion: Bedaquiline-cont.ining regimens for pat.ent.
