Cancerous cells display abnormalities in the signal transduction pathways responsible for responding to extracellular growth factors,or *** that alter proteins involved in these types of pathways can lead to inappropriate or unregulated cell growth,and therefore predispose the cell to become *** critical role of the ras/mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)pathway in transducing growth signals to the interior of the cell and subsequently stimulating cell growth and proliferation is underscored by the fact that roughly one quarter of all human tumors contain mutant forms of ras proteins.A particular focus on the signaling and membrane trafficking adaptor protein known as ras interference 1(rIN1)will reveal how this protein can potentially play a significant role in the development of the cancerous phenotype in certain cell *** equal interest is the possible connection between the ras/MAPK pathway,and subsequent expression and enzymatic activity of telomerase–a key enzyme known to be overexpressed in roughly 85%of all ***1 is a 783 amino acid(84 kDa)cytosolic protein that is involved in key steps of growth factor receptormediated endocytosis and can potentially moderate signaling through the MAPK ***1,with its unique ability to compete directly with raf for activation by ras,could potentially influence signaling through more than one of the MAPK *** so,rIN1 may then be able to exert a precise and selective effect on the downstream signal(s)of a MAPK target such as telomerase.

A new starting-point and a new method are requisite, to insure a complete [classi?cation of the Steiner triple systems of order 15]. This method was furnished, and its tedious and di?cult execution und- taken, by Mr. Cole. F. N. Cole, L. D. Cummings, and H. S. White (1917) [129] The history of classifying combinatorial objects is as old as the history of the objects themselves. In the mid-19th century, Kirkman, Steiner, and others became the fathers of modern combinatorics, and their work – on various objects, including (what became later known as) Steiner triple systems – led to several classi?cation results. Almost a century earlier, in 1782, Euler [180] published some results on classifying small Latin squares, but for the ?rst few steps in this direction one should actually go at least as far back as ancient Greece and the proof that there are exactly ?ve Platonic solids. One of the most remarkable achievements in the early, pre-computer era is the classi?cation of the Steiner triple systems of order 15, quoted above. An onerous task that, today, no sensible person would attempt by hand calcu- tion. Because, with the exception of occasional parameters for which com- natorial arguments are e?ective (often to prove nonexistence or uniqueness), classi?cation in general is about algorithms and computation.

Target-oriented robust optimization of a microgrid system investment model

An emerging alternative solution to address energy shortage is the construction of a microgrid system. This paper develops a mixed-integer linear programming microgrid investment model considering multi-period and multi-objective investment setups. It further investigates the effects of uncertain demand by using a target-oriented robust optimization （TOrO） approach. The model was validated and analyzed by subjecting it in different scenarios. As a result, it is seen that there are four factors that affect the decision of the model： cost, budget, carbon emissions, and useful life. Since the objective of the model is to maximize the net present value （NPV） of the system, the model would choose to prioritize the least cost among the different distribution energy resources （DEr）. The effects of load uncertainty was observed through the use of Monte Carlo simulation. As a result, the deterministic model shows a solution that might be too optimistic and might not be achievable in real life situations. Through the application of TOrO, a profile of solutions is generated to serve as a guide to the investors in their decisions considering uncertain demand. The results show that pessimistic investors would have lower NPV targets since they would invest more in storage facilities, incurring more electricity stock out costs. On the contrary, an optimistic investor would tend to be aggressive in buying electricity generating equipment to meet most of the demand, however risking more storage stock out costs.

Acute effects of partial-body vibration in sitting position

AIM To investigate the acute effects of sinusoidal and stochastic resonance partial-body vibration in sitting position, including muscle activity, heart rate variability, balance and *** Fifty healthy participants were assigned randomly to two training conditions: A sinusoidal partial-body vibration(SIN, 8 Hz) or a stochastic resonance partial-body vibration(STOCH, 8 ± 2 Hz). For baseline assessment participants sat on the vibration platform without vibration. Both training conditions consisted of five series of a one-minute vibration training and a one-minutebreak between them. In this experimental study surface electromyography(EMG) of the erector spinae(ES), one of the back muscles, and heart rate variability(HrV) was measured at baseline and during training. Balance and flexibility were assessed at baseline and immediately after training. Balance was measured with the modified star excursion balance test(mS EBT) and flexibility was assessed through the modified fingertip-to-floor method(mF TF).rESULTS Paired sample t-test showed a significant increase in balance that was restricted to STOCH(t =-2.22, P = 0.018; SIN: t =-0.09, P = 0.466). An increase in flexibility was also restricted to STOCH(t = 2.65, P = 0.007; SIN: t = 1.41, P = 0.086). There was no significant change of muscle activity in the ES-EMG in STOCH or SIN conditions. In both training conditions, HrV decreased significantly, but remained in a low-load range(STOCH: t = 2.89, P = 0.004; SIN: t = 2.55, P = 0.009).CONCLUSION In sitting position, stochastic resonance partial-body vibration can improve balance and flexibility while cardiovascular load is low. STOCH can be a valuable training option to people who are unable to stand(e.g., people, who are temporarily wheelchair-bound).

Twiddler’s Syndrome in a Patient with Dystonic Tremor Treated with DBS

Background and Importance: Twiddler’s syndrome is a rare complication of DBS. This condition occurs when the IPG is consciously or inadvertently rotated in its pocket, resulting in torsion and possible dislodgement of implanted electrodes, with subsequent loss of function. Methods: Here we present a patient diagnosed with Twiddler’s syndrome. The patient presented with straining cables at the neck five months after bilateral Gpi DBS and an x-ray demonstrated Twiddler’s syndrome. Initial revision with preventive measures proved futile. After some time the condition recurred, now with dislocation of one of the intracerebral electrodes. In a second revision the IPG was placed under the pectoralis muscle, which has so far prevented further rotation. results and Conclusion: While Twiddler’s syndrome is fairly uncommon, it remains to be a risk associated with DBS, recognizing the potential risks and signs might allow for preventive measures avoiding dislocation of the intracerebral electrodes.

[目的]探讨应用微创手术治疗股骨转子间骨折的方法和疗效，及就手术的侵袭性、手术时间、受辐射的时间、失血量等指标进行评估和比较。[方法]自2003年以来，应用经皮加压钢板（percutaneous compressionplating，PCCP），在C型臂X线机监视下，经皮小切口置入加压钢板行内固定治疗股骨转子间骨折19例，选择稳定性骨折或者轻度移位而容易复位的骨折为适应证。其中女11例，男8例，年龄54—85岁，平均68岁。随访6—28个月，平均16．8个月。[结果]手术时间30-55min，平均45min；应用C型臂X线机时间45—85s，平均58s；术中失血40-120ml，平均80ml。所有病例X线片骨折愈合时间为3个月。[结论]应用PCCP钢板经皮内固定手术治疗股骨转子间骨折，比照传统的DHS、Gamma钉和PFN具有手术创伤小，操作简单，手术时间短，出血少，减少术中X线片的曝光时间等特点，疗效满意，并发症少。

Estimation of Treatment Benefit in Patients with Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformations

Background: Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are vascular lesions that may be associated with a significant morbidity and mortality. There is still today no consensus regarding treatment of unruptured AVMs. Using known data from the literature, and data from our own institution concerning stereotactic radiotherapy, our aim was to construct an equation that may be used to evaluate the benefit of intervention vs. conservative treatment in unruptured AVMs. Methods: Assuming an annual bleeding risk of 4% and previously reported mortality (29%) and morbidity (16%) rates after a bleeding from an AVM, an equation was constructed. This equation would estimate the time until the combined mortality and morbidity associated with conservative treatment would equal the mortality and morbidity of stereotactic radiotherapy. results: Using stereotactic radiotherapy this treatment would benefit over conservative treatment in excess of 8.12 years. The risk of bleeding was the most important factor influencing the benefit of intervention vs. conservative treatment. Conclusions: We argue that that it may be possible to estimate the benefit of intervention vs. conservative treatment in an unruptured AVM. This may be achieved using our proposed equation and data specific to each center performing treatment for AVMs.

Characterisation of real-World Bus Acceleration and Deceleration Signals

Public transportation by bus is an essential part of mobility. Braking and starting, e.g., approaching a bus stop, are documented as the main reason for non-collision incidents. These situations are evoked by the acceleration forces leading to perturbations of the passenger’s base of support. In laboratory studies perturbations are applied to getting insight into the postural control system and neuromuscular responses. However, bus perturbations diverge from laboratory ones with respect to duration, maximum and shape, and it was shown recently that these characteristics influence the postural response. Thus, results from posturographic studies cannot be generalised and transferred to bus perturbations. In this study, acceleration (ACC) and deceleration (DEC) signals of real traffic situations were examined. A mathematical approach is proposed in order to identify characteristics of these signals and to quantify their similarity and complexity. Typical characteristics (duration, maximum, and shape) of real-world driving manoeuvres concerning start and stop situations could be identified. A mean duration of 13.6 s for ACC and 9.8 s for DEC signals was found which is clearly longer than laboratory perturbations. ACC and DEC signals are more complex than the used signals for platform displacements in the laboratory. The proposed method enables the reconstruction of bus ACC and DEC signals. The data can be used as input for studies on postural control with high ecological validity.
