Vanadium nitride （VN） was deposited by DC-sputtering on a vertically aligned carbon nanotube （CNTs） template for the purpose of nano-structuration. This led to the fabrication of hierarchically composite electrodes consisting of porous and nanostructured VN grown on vertically aligned CNTs in a nano-treelike configuration for micro-supercapacitor application. The electrodes show excellent performance with an areal capacitance as high as 37.5 mF cm^-2 at a scan rate of 2 mV s^-1 in a 0.5 M k2504 mild electrolyte solution. Furthermore, the capacitance decay was only 15% after 20,000 consecutive cycles. Moreover, the capacitance was found to increase with VN deposit thickness. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses of the electrodes before and after cycling suggest that the oxide layers that form at the VN surface is the responsible for the redox energy storage in this material. Such electrodes can compete with other transition metal nitride based electrodes for micro-supercapacitors.

Patterns of brain injuries associated with maxillofacial fractures and its fate in emergency Egyptian polytrauma patients

Purpose： Maxillofacial injuries are commonly encountered in the practice of emergency medicine. More than 50% of patients with these injuries have multisystem trauma that requires coordinated manage- ment between emergency physicians and surgical specialists in oral and maxillofacial surgery, otolar- yngology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and trauma surgery. The aim of this study is to identify the patterns of brain injuries associated with maxillofacial trauma and its outcome. Methods： This descriptive study （cross-sectional） was carried out among 90 polytrauma patients with maxillofacial fractures attending the Emergency Department at Suez Canal university Hospital and fulfilling our inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results： This study demonstrates the relation between type of maxillofacial fracture and type of trau- matic brain injuries in which the majority of patients with epidural hemorrhage presented with mid face fractures （60%）, while the minority of them presented with upper and lower face fractures （20% for each of them）. The majority of patients with subdural hemorrhage were associated with mid face fractures （75%）, the majority of patients with brain contusions associated with mid face fractures （75%）, and all of the patients presented by pneumocephalus were associated with mid face fractures （100%）. Conclusion： The results of this study confirm the value of quick diagnosis and early intervention, which is fundamental to prevent morbidity as well as mortality especially with regards to prevention of traumatic brain injury as even a short duration of hvpoxia and edema will lead to significant permanent neurological deficits.

Soybean Seed Phenolics, Sugars, and Minerals Are Altered by Charcoal Rot Infection in MG III Soybean Cultivars

Soybean seed is a major source of phytochemical compounds that impact human health nutrition and livestock meal. Charcoal rot is a disease caused by the fungus Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid, and thought to infect the plants through roots by a toxin-mediated mechanism, resulting in yield loss and poor seed quality, especially under drought conditions. Limited information is available on the effect of charcoal rot on seed phytochemical compounds and mineral nutrition in soybean. Therefore, the objective of this research was to investigate the effect of charcoal rot infection on seed phenol, seed coat lignin, isoflavones, and minerals using susceptible (S) (Dk 3964) and moderately resistant (MR) (AG 3905) maturity group (MG)III soybean cultivars to charcoal rot. A two-year field experiment was conducted, and infested soil with charcoal rot (infested soil conditions, INF) or control (non-infested soil conditions, NINF) was used. The results showed that the moderately resistant genotype had higher concentrations of seed phenolics, total isoflavones, and seed coat lignin under infested and non-infested conditions and under irrigated or non-irrigated conditions compared with the susceptible genotype. The same general trend was found for seed k, Ca, P, Mn, Zn, B, and Cu concentrations in the moderately resistant genotype compared with the susceptible genotype. Our research demonstrated that these seed phytochemical constituents may explain the differences between susceptible and moderately resistant cultivars and may play an important role in the resistance to charcoal rot.

<i>Ustilaginoidea virens</i>Infection of Rice in Arkansas: Toxicity of False Smut Galls, Their Extracts and the Ustiloxin Fraction

Cool, wet conditions in the southern US during the maturing stages of rice in 1998 contributed to outbreaks of false smut caused by Ustilaginoidea virens. Water extracts of false smut galls in Asia have been reported to contain ustiloxin toxins, cyclic peptide antibiotics that interfered with microtubule function and caused “lupinosis”-like lesions in mice. Cell-free extracts from false smut galls on rice grown in Arkansas were fractionated by a published procedure for the purification of ustiloxins. The ustiloxin fraction was phytotoxic to Lemnapausicostata (duckweed) at ≥19 μg/ml, but the host plant, rice, was much less susceptible, exhibiting phytotoxic effects in germinating seeds at ≥1000 μg/ml. The aqueous extract of rice false smut galls showed no cytotoxicity to mammalian cell cultures at 200 μg/ml, but the ustiloxin fractionwas cytotoxic at 10 - 100 μg/ml. However, rice false smut galls were not toxic when fed to mice at 10% of chow, but caused feed refusal at higher concentrations. We conclude that for 1) the U. virens which causes false smut in southern USA differs from Asian isolates in that does not produce detectable ustiloxins;and 2) false smut affects the appearance, but not the food safety of rice in the United States.

Preliminary Hydrogeologic Modeling and Optimal Monitoring Network Design for a Contaminated Abandoned Mine Site Area: Application of Developed Monitoring Network Design Software

In abandoned mine sites, i.e., mine sites where mining operations have ended, wide spread contaminations are often evident, but the potential sources and pathways of contamination especially through the subsurface, are difficult to identify due to inadequate and sparse geochemical measurements available. Therefore, it is essential to design and implement a planned monitoring net-work to obtain essential information required for establishing the potential contamination source locations, i.e., waste dumps, tailing dams, pits and possible pathways through the subsurface, and to design a remediation strategy for rehabilitation. This study presents an illustrative application of modeling the flow and transport processes and monitoring network design in a study area hydrogeologically resembling an abandoned mine site in Queensland, Australia. In this preliminary study, the contaminant transport process modeled does not incorporate the reactive geochemistry of the contaminants. The transport process is modeled considering a generic conservative contaminant for the illustrative purpose of showing the potential application of an optimal monitoring design methodology. This study aims to design optimal monitoring network to: 1) minimize the contaminant solute mass estimation error;2) locate the plume boundary;3) select the monitoring locations with (potentially) high concentrations. A linked simulation optimization based methodology is utilized for optimal monitoring network design. The methodology is applied utilizing a recently developed software package CARE-GWMND, developed at James Cook University for optimal monitoring network design. Given the complexity of the groundwater systems and the sparsity of pollutant concentration observation data from the field, this software is capable of simulating the groundwater flow and solute transport with spatial interpolation of data from a sparse set of available data, and it utilizes the optimization algorithm to determine optimum

Biological Control of the Weed Sesbania exaltata Using a Microsclerotia Formulation of the Bioherbicide <i>Colletotrichum truncatum</i>

Colletotrichum truncatum, grown on rice grain (3 to 4 weeks, 22°C to 24°C) produced a fungus-infested rice mixture of microsclerotia and conidia (spores) in a ratio of ~9:1, respectively. Greenhouse tests of this formulation (0.4 to 50 mg finely-ground fungus-rice product) which applied pre-emergence to 5 cm2 of soil surface, caused 22% to 96% hemp sesbania plant mortality, after 14 days. Post-emergence treatment (fungus-rice aqueous formulation;2.4 × 105 microsclerotia ml-1, 30% unrefined corn oil and 0.2% Silwet L-77 surfactant) of weeds surviving the pre-emergence application, resulted in 93% mortality, after 14 days. Based on greenhouse results, field tests were undertaken: 1) pre-emergence treatment (fungus-rice formulation at 2.4 × 105 microsclerotia cm-2), 2) post-emergence (fungus-rice product in 30% unrefined corn oil, 0.2% Silwet) only treatment, applied 15 days after planting and 3) pre-emergence treatment followed by post-emergence treatment (fungus-rice product in 30% unrefined corn oil, 0.2% Silwet) applied 15 days after planting to surviving weeds. Control treatments were: 1) autoclaved rice product sans fungus, 2) unrefined corn oil (30% unrefined corn oil, 0.2% Silwet in water) and 3) untreated plants. Planting dates were: early season (April-May), early-mid season (June-July), late-mid season (July-August), and late season (September-October). Weed mortality was recorded at 15 days for the pre-plus post-treatment, and at 30 days after planting for the pre-emergence only and the post-treatment only. The early season, pre-emergence treatment caused 67% hemp sesbania mortality (3-yr average) within 15 days and the post-emergence treatment caused 91% mortality of the surviving weeds. In the late-mid-season, pre-emergence treatment caused minimal (80%. Results suggest that seasonal environmental conditions are important in the efficacy of this C. truncatum-rice product formula

A case of enterolith small bowel obstruction and jejunal diverticulosis

We reported a case of 79-year old woman with known large bowel diverticulosis presenting with small bowel obstruction due to stone impaction - found on plain abdominal *** studies demonstrated small bowel *** laparotomy, the gall bladder was normal with no stones and no abnormal communication with small bowel - excluding the possibility of a gallstone ileus. Analysis of the stone revealed a composition of bile pigments and calcium *** was a rare case of small bowel obstruction due to enterolith formation - made distinctive by calcification (previously unreported in the proximal small bowel).

Geochemical and Behavioral Modeling of Phosphorus and Sulfur as Deleterious Elements of Iron Ore to Be Used in Geometallurgical Studies, Sheytoor Iron Ore, Iran

Sheytoor Iron Ore deposit is located in Yazd province of Iran (Bafq). The most abundant ore is magnetite, which can be seen in the form of mass and granular tissue in various forms of self-shaped, semi-self-shaped and amorphous. The main purpose of this study is to identify the geochemical relationship of phosphorus and sulfur elements and also three-dimensional modeling of mineralization of these elements in iron ore. In order to achieve the research goal, methods such as k-mean clustering technique, concentration-volume fractal as well as block modeling with kriging estimator and Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) interpolator were used. The model of geochemical behavior of phosphorus and sulfur elements compared to iron is of great importance because these two elements are known as deleterious elements in mineral processing and steelmaking processes, which are the post-mining stages. Existence of geochemical model and identification of elements’ behavior towards each other play a key role in optimizing mining operations in order to achieve geometallurgical goals. The results of this study are the three-dimensional model of mineralization of iron, phosphorus and sulfur elements, separation of phosphorus and sulfur mineralization communities and also presenting the model of enrichment community of these two elements. All the results are in line with geometallurgical studies and can optimize the next steps by optimizing the mining process.

Effect of Planting Density, Irrigation Regimes, and Maize Hybrids with Varying Ear Size on Yield, and Aflatoxin and Fumonisin Contamination Levels

Corn (maize, Zea mays L.) hybrids expressing the flexibility trait in ear size (number of kernels per ear) are marketed for ability to give higher yields under adverse conditions. Altered kernel number is associated with altered number of silk, a major route for infection of kernels by aflatoxin-producing fungi such as Aspergillus flavus. The effect of plant density and irrigation level on yield and accumulation of aflatoxins and fumonisins in harvested grain was compared in a fixed-ear hybrid (Pioneer 33k81), a semi-flexible ear hybrid (Pioneer 3223) and a flexible ear hybrid (Golden Acres 8460) over a range of seeding densities (49,400, 61,750, 74,700, 86,450, and 98,800 seeds·ha–1) in non-irrigated, moderately-irrigated (6.4 cm soil water deficit) and well-irrigated plots (3.8 cm soil water deficit), during three years with variable rainfall. Irrigation increased yields in all hybrids, but in the absence of irrigation, yields were highest with the semi-flexible ear trait hybrid. In general, the hybrid with the flexible ear trait had lower optimal seeding densities than the other hybrids for each soil water regime. In general, kernel number was least affected by seeding density in the hybrid with fixed-ear trait compared to the semi- and flexible ear hybrids. The lowest levels of aflatoxin and of fumonisin contamination in harvested grain were associated with the flexible ear trait at all rainfall and irrigation levels, but there was no evidence that reducing stress by lowering seeding density reduced mycotoxin contamination. Inoculation with A. flavus resulted in much higher levels of aflatoxin and significantly higher levels of fumonisin contamination in grain of all hybrids under most conditions of rainfall and irrigation, suggesting that factors that promote A. flavus infection can affect production of both mycotoxins.

近年来,许多机构倾向于使用数据仓库来满足日益发展的决策过程,以此来更好地实现自己的目标并满足客户的需求。在数据仓库的构筑中,作业量最大、日常运行中问题最多的环节是从业务数据库向数据仓库抽取、转换、集成数据。ETL即数据抽取(Extract)、转换(Transform)、装载(loading)的过程,是构建数据仓库的重要环节.在企业管理中,管理者总是希望能随时随地访问到任何他们需要的信息,这就要求有一个体系结构来容纳各种格式之后需要进行数据的“净化提炼”即数据清洗,从多个不同业务数据库所抽取的数据,进行数据项名称的统一、位数的统一、编码的统一和形式的统一,并的内部数据和外部数据,例如经营数据、历史数据、现行数据以及来自Internet服务提供商(ISP)的数据,此外还应该包含易于访问的元数据。这些源数据因为来源不同,且具有大量、分散和不清洁的特点,不能为数据仓库直接使用,因为对所有数据的分析、挖掘活动必须建立在一个数据清洁、结构良好的数据仓库的基础之上。因此在数据抽取处理之后需要进行数据的“净化提炼”即数据清洗,从多个不同业务数据库所抽取的数据,进行数据项名称的统一、位数的统一、编码的统一和形式的统一,并消除重复数据,这此由传统的ETL难以实现,需要引进新的方法与技术对ETL进行增强,以保证数据仓库总能获取高质量的数据。论文分析了数据清洗过程必须满足的必要条件与典型的方法,以列表的形式对典型算法进行了详细列表分析,包括算法使用的核心方法、精度、时间复杂度等方面,通过比较分析各数据清洗算法的特点,评断了11种典型数据清洗算法的优劣。其中k-Nearest Neighbor算法虽然容易掌握但是处理大型数据集时,运行时间性能上的缺陷明显。Naive k-means Clustering非常适用于大型的连续值数据集但是不适用于分类数据集。 Genetic算法可以解决很多多解问题,但是不能保证常量的最佳响应时间。Genetic Neural Network算法虽然有很高的预测精度并且它的预测精度在某种程度上是可控制的,但是它的计算复杂度很高,非常消耗时间。本文在评判这些算法的优劣后,针对其各自的优缺点提出由最佳算法构成的框架。论文在分析数据清洗应用的基础上,提出了一个数据清洗框架。本框架首先从数据源收集数据,例如(Excel, Access, word和OLEBD)。然后将这些被挑选的数据转移到SQL server2000,并且对数据进行预处理和整理操作。然后,数据清洗框架对数据进行检测和处理来修复缺失值并且删除重复记录,将低质量数据转换为高质量数据。随后高质量数据将会被装载到数据仓库中并且应用于决策支持系统。本框架采用了SQLServer2000和SSAS2000,同时本框架所提出了两种算法使用了多种编译环境,因此,适用的文件类型多样,为使用者提供了多种选择。论文围绕两个数据清洗中缺失值和重复记录这两个关键问题进行分析。本文使用SQLServer服务器和SQLServer分析服务,并使用其中的两个关键技术--查询分析器和数据转换服务(DTS).论文在分析手动方法进行数据清洗存在费时、对大型数据集的数据清洗效果较差等特点的基础上,对自动化的数据清洗方法进行了详细分析,并且得出自动化数据清洗方法适用于处理缺失值和重复记录等常见问题的结论。论文中所提的框架主要采用的数据源为Northwind数据库,这个数据库的特点为,数据缺失值较高、有重复记录且具有不同格式的相同属性。数据源还可以采用如Excel、Access、Word、text等格式的数据,通过导入到Microsoft SQL2000勺环境中即可使用。论文所提出的数据清洗框架利用两种算法来解决缺失值和重复记录的问题,以提高决策支持系统的准确性,并获取数据仓库中的高质量数据。算法一为检测及修补缺失值算法,此算法为两种传统算法的融合,这两种经典方法分别为“数据牧马人”和“数据清洗增强技术”。“数据牧马人”是由斯坦福大学可视化组开发的一款基于,web勺服务,是一种交互式的数据清理和转换的可视化工具,使用高于或低于数值的方法来处理缺失值。而“数据清洗增强技术”则用取平均的、最常用的恒量值的方法来处理缺失值。算法二为检测和修补重复记录的算法。从实用的角度来讲,任何组织都不允许在其数据库上直接进行数据清洗过程的操作。数据清洗过程作为提取、转换、装载工具的一部分出现,我们在开发程序过程中必须充分考虑以上条件。我们提出了一些想法来避免操作过程对数据库有任何直接的更改,步骤如下：1.检测到重复记录之后,添加一个命名为假想表的临时表。2.将数据从原始表中移动到假想表。3.用假想表代替原始表,并将假想表中的重复记录删除。当碰
