Prevalence of obesity in Italian adolescents:does the use of different growth charts make the difference?

Background Since populations are becoming increasingly multi-ethnic,the use of local or international charts is a matter of *** study aimed to evaluate how the choice of cut-off thresholds affected prevalence of underweight(UW),overweight(OW),obesity(OB)in 120011-12-year Italian adolescents,and how their somatic growth depended on parental *** The height,weight and body mass index were expressed as standard deviation score(SDS)using Italian(ISPED-2006)and UK(UK-1990)*** classification of UW/OW/OB was computed with the IOTF international cut-offs,and thresholds were identified as centiles corresponding to BMI values of 18.5/25.0/30.0 kg/m^(2)at 18-year in ISPED-2006 or UK-1990 *** About 30%participants had non-Italian parents,above all from North-Africa and *** to the UK-1990 charts,all groups showed negative mean SDS for height,and positive SDS for weight and *** to the ISPED-2006 charts,all mean SDS were *** of UW individuals was higher in accordance with ISPED-2006 than with UK-1990 charts,whereas percentages of OW/OB were higher with UK-1990 than ISPED-2006 *** results obtained using IOFT cut-offs were similar to UK-1990 *** results were due to the different shape of age-dependent cut-off *** by the parental origin,the percentages of adolescents classified as OW/OB were closer to the expected values using the ISPED-2006 then the UK-1990 *** results suggested the use of the Italian references for adolescents with immigrant *** The use of local charts seems more appropriate at least in Italian adolescents in the age range studied.

Understanding how defect chemistry of oxide material influences the thermal stability of noble metal dopant ions plays an important role in designing high-performance heterogeneous catalytic *** we use in-situ ambient-pressure X-ray photoemission spectroscopy(APXPS)to experimentally determine the role of grain boundary in the thermal stability of platinum doped cerium oxide(Pt/CeO_(2)).The grain boundaries were introduced in Pt/CeO_(2)thin films by pulsed laser deposition without significantly change of the surface *** defect level was tuned by the strain field obtained using a highly/low mismatched *** Pt/CeO_(2)thin film models having well defined crystallographic properties but different grain boundary structural defect levels provide an ideal platform for exploring the evolution of Pt–O–Ce bond with changing the temperature in reducing *** have direct demonstration and explanation of the role of Ce^(3+)induced by grain boundaries in enhancing Pt2+*** observe that the Pt^(2+)–O–Ce^(3+)bond provides an ideal coordinated site for anchoring of Pt^(2+)ions and limits the further formation of oxygen vacancies during the reduction with H_(2).Our findings demonstrate the importance of grain boundary in the atomic-scale design of thermally stable catalytic active sites.

In this White Paper we present the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry(eXTP) mission for studies related to Observatory Science targets. These include flaring stars, supernova remnants, accreting white dwarfs, low and high mass X-ray binaries, radio quiet and radio loud active galactic nuclei, tidal disruption events, and gamma-ray bursts. eXTP will be excellently suited to study one common aspect of these objects: their often transient nature. Developed by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s.
