transparent microelectrode arrays enable simultaneous electrical recording and optical imaging of neuronal networks in the *** made of the conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)doped with polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOt:PSS)are transparent;however,device fabrication necessitates specific processes to avoid deterioration of the organic ***,we present an innovative fabrication scheme for a neural probe that consists of transparent PEDOt:PSS electrodes and demonstrate its compatibility with 2-photon *** electrodes show suitable impedance to record local field potentials from the cortex of mice and sufficient transparency to visualize GCaMP6f-expressing neurons underneath the PEDOt:PSS *** results validate the performance of the neural probe,which paves the way to study the complex dynamics of in vivo neuronal activity with both a high spatial and temporal resolution to better understand the brain.

Organic farming aims to stimulate soil fertility by avoiding the use of synthetic fertiliser inputs, relying instead on locally available natural resources. It is regarded by many as a sustainable alternative to conventional fanning because it ensures higher biodiversity, restricts environmental pollution, prevents land degradation and is easy to apply for smallholder and subsistence farmers. Although widely practiced and studied in temperate regions, little is known about the potential overall benefits of organic farming in the tropics and subtropics. this paper addresses this gap by undertaking an analysis of the differences between organic and conventional agriculture in the tropics and sub-tropics based on an extensive literature review including 88 papers with 458 data pairs. the comparison is based on three main indicators： yield, gross margin and soil organic carbon （SOC）. the differences between the organic and conventional systems for each of these main indicators is represented by the ratio of the value of the indicator in the organic system divided by the corresponding value in the conventional system. this was initially calculated for each data pair individually, and grouped by a variety of explanatory factors, such as precipitation, human development level, soil texture, crop type, organic input type, time after conversion and certification. the results demonstrate that under organic management, yields were on average 26% higher, gross margins 51% higher and soil organic carbon 53% higher than under conventional management. the highest yield increases in organic cropping systems were achieved in the least developed countries, in arid regions and on coarse soils. For gross margins, certification was the main reason for differences between organic and conventional systems. Introduction -Laparoscopic rectopexy for complete rectal prolapse offers short-term advantages compared with operations performed by laparotomy. the aim of this prospective study was to report technical and functional outcome after laparoscopic rectopexy to the promontory in consecutive patients operated on by a single surgeon. Patients and methods -From May 1996 to July 2004, 54 consecutive patients (47 women), median age 53 years (range: 16-84 years), underwent laparoscopic rectopexy to the promontory for complete rectal prolapse. Preoperative evaluation included physical examination, dynamic videoproctography and, in patients with constipation, colonic transit time (with radiopaque markers). Postoperative evaluation included the same examinations and a simple global quality-of-life questionnaire. Results -Conversion to laparotomy was required for three patients during the learning curve. Median duration of operation was 157 minutes (range: 50 -370). there was no mortality and morbidity was 5.5%(brachial plexus palsy in two patients and urinary tract infection in one). Median hospital stay was 3.5 days (range: 1 -11). there were 4 recurrences (7.4%). Functional outcome at 12 months showed the presence of constipation in 20.3%of patients (persistence in eight and de novo in three) and the presence of outlet obstruction in 25.9%of patients (persistence in six and de novo in eight). Anal continence improved in 72.4%of the 29 patients who complained of this symptom. the global quality-of-life questionnaire showed a satisfactory result in 96%of patients. Conclusion -Laparoscopic rectopexy to the promontory is a safe and efficient procedure to treat complete rectal prolapse; morbidity is low. Functional outcome is at least equivalent to that obtained with open procedures in terms of continence, constipation and outlet obstruction.

AIM to conduct a prospective assessment of anti-hepatitis E virus(HEV) Ig G seroprevalence in the Western Cape Province of South Africa in conjunction with evaluating risk factors for *** Consenting participants attending clinics and wards of Groote Schuur, Red Cross Children's Hospital and their affiliated teaching hospitals in Cape town, South Africa, were sampled. Healthy adults attending blood donor clinics were also recruited. Patients with known liver disease were excluded and all major ethnic/race groups were included to broadly represent local demographics. Relevant demographic data was captured at the time of sampling using an interviewer-administered confidential questionnaire. Human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) status was self-disclosed. HEV Ig G testing was performed using the Wantai? *** HEV is endemic in the region with a seroprevalence of 27.9%(n = 324/1161) 95%CI: 25.3%-30.5%(21.9% when age-adjusted) with no significant differences between ethnic groups or HIV status. Seroprevalence in children is low but rapidly increases in early adulthood. With univariate analysis, age ≥ 30 years old, pork and bacon/ham consumption suggested risk.
