Reliability and validity of Persian version of Medical Outcome Study-HIV health survey in Iranian people living with HIV

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the medical outcome study human immunodeficiency virus(MOS-HIV)health survey among people living with HIV or acquired immune deficiency syndrome(HIV/AIDS) in Iran is our main goal in this ***: The MOS-HIV questionnaire was translated into Persian using backward translation and the Persian version was filled by 100 HIV infected patients. Reliability of the questionnaire was estimated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total questionnaire and for each dimension. Convergent, discriminant and construct validity were performed. Comparisons were performed between the subscales of the questionnaire in Iran and some other countries with ***: The overall Cronbach's alpha in this study was 0.90 and the range of this coefficient was from 0.71 to 0.86 across the subscales with two exceptions, general health perception and role functioning, which were at 0.65 and 0.61. Convergent and discriminant validity were excellent in all domains. The two factor confirmatory factor analysis showed a good fit based on standardized estimates of factor loading, incremental and absolute fit ***: The Persian version of the MOS-HIV had good reliability and validity in measuring health related quality of life in people living with HIV in Iran. furthermore, quality of life for HIV infected patients was very low in comparing with the people in some other countries.

DNA-binding studies of valrubicin as a chemotherapy drug using spectroscopy and electrochemical techniques

In this study, the molecular interactions between valrubicin, an anticancer drug, and fish sperm DNA have been studied in phosphate buffer solution(pH 7.4) using UV–Vis spectrophotometry and cyclic voltammetry techniques. Valrubicin intercalated into double stranded DNA under a weak displacement reaction with methylene blue(MB) molecule in a competitive reaction. The binding constant(kb) of valrubicin-DNA was determined as 1.75×10~3L/mol by spectrophotometric titration. The value of non-electrostatic binding constant(k_t^0) was almost constant at different ionic strengths while the ratio of k_t^0/k_b increased from 4.51% to 23.77%.These results indicate that valrubicin binds to ds-DNA via electrostatic and intercalation *** parameters including ΔH^0, ΔS^0and ΔG^0for valrubicin-DNA interaction were determined as-25.21×10~3k J/mol, 1.55×10~2k J/mol K and-22.03 k J/mol, respectively. Cyclic voltammetry study shows a pair of redox peaks for valrubicin at 0.45 V and 0.36 V(vs. Ag/Ag Cl). The peak currents decreased and peak positions shifted to positive direction in the presence of DNA, showing intercalation mechanism due to the variation in formal potential.

Objective: Some epidemic diseases such as coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) have caused many physical, psychological, and social challenges, despite the existence of treatment strategies. Many people are looking for complementary and alternative medicine(CAM) to prevent such diseases. The present study was performed to determine how some types of CAM were being used during the COVID-19 epidemic in ***: The present study had a cross-sectional descriptive correlational design. All Iranian residents above 17 years old were eligible to participate in the study. A total of 782 participants completed a demographic information questionnaire, a questionnaire about their use of CAMs and a questionnaire about their satisfaction with the CAMs they used. Web-based sampling was conducted from 20 April 2020 to 20 August ***: Of the participants, 84% used at least one type of CAM during the COVID-19 outbreak. The most used CAMs were dietary supplements(61.3%), prayer(57.9%), and herbal medicines(48.8%). The majority of the participants(50%–66%) have used CAMs to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 or to reduce anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. CAM use was associated with sex, having children, place of residence, COVID-19 status, and source of gathering information about CAM(P fected with COVID-19 used at least one type of CAM for treatment or alleviation of the disease ***: During the COVID-19 outbreak, some types of CAM, particularly nutritional supplements,medicinal herbs, and prayer, were commonly used to prevent COVID-19 and reduce pandemic-related anxiety.

We use single-molecule fRET and newly-developed D-loop techniques to investigate strand displacement activity of Klenow fragment(exo-)of DNA polymerase I in DNA sequences rich in guanine and cytosine(GC)*** find that there exist in the fRET traces numerous ascending jumps,which are induced by the backsliding of Klenow fragment on DNA *** measurements show that the probability of backsliding is closely related to the GC-richness and d NTP concentration:increasing the GC-richness leads to an increase in the backsliding probability,and increasing the d NTP concentration however leads to a decrease in the backsliding *** results provide a new insight into the mechanism of DNA polymerase I.

Antioxidant therapy in acute,chronic and post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis:An updated systematic review and meta-analysis

AIM:To investigate the efficacy and adverse effects of antioxidant therapy in acute pancreatitis(AP),chronic pancreatitis(CP) and post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis(PEP).METHODS:Pub Med,Scopus,Google Scholar,Cochrane library database,and Evidence-based medicine/clinical trials published before August 2014 were searched. Clinical and laboratory outcomes of randomized trials of antioxidant therapy in patients with AP,CP and PEP were included. The methodological quality of the trials was assessed by the Jadad score based on the description of randomization,blinding,and dropouts(withdrawals). The results of the studies were pooled and meta-analyzed to provide estimates of the efficacy of antioxidant ***:Thirty four trials out of 1069 potentially relevant studies with data for 4898 patients wereeligible for inclusion. Antioxidant therapy significantly reduced the length of hospital stay in AP patients {mean difference-2.59 d(95%CI:-4.25-(-0.93)],P = 0.002}. Although,antioxidant therapy had no significant effect on serum C reactive protein(CRP) after 5-7 d in AP patients [mean difference-9.57(95%CI:-40.61-21.48,P = 0.55],it significantly reduced serum CRP after 10 d {mean difference-45.16 [95%CI:-89.99-(-0.33)],P = 0.048}. In addition,antioxidant therapy had no significant effect on CP-induced pain [mean difference-2.13(95%CI:-5.87-1.6),P = 0.26]. Antioxidant therapy had no significant effects on the incidence of all types of PEP [mean difference 1.05(95%CI:0.74-1.5),P = 0.78],severe PEP [mean difference 0.92(95%CI:0.43-1.97),P = 0.83],moderate PEP [mean difference 0.82(95%CI:0.54-1.23),P = 0.33],and mild PEP [mean difference 1.33(95%CI:0.99-1.78),P = 0.06]. furthermore,while antioxidant therapy had no significant effect on serum amylase after less than 8 h sampling [mean difference-20.61(95%CI:-143.61-102.39),P = 0.74],it significantly reduced serum amylase close to 24-h sampling {mean difference-16.13 [95%CI:-22.98-(-9.28)],P <
