Exogenous Endophthalmitis Due to Illicit Drug Injection in an I.V. Drug User

Background: Drug abuse could cause complications;infection and overdose are the most prevalent of them. Unreliable history of addicted patients also makes the diagnosis difficult and leads to delayed treatment and poor prognosis. Early recognition and prompt treatment are required to minimize the destructive damage. To our knowledge, there is not any previous report of bilateral eye injection among drug abusers, causing traumatic endophthalmitis in the English literature and our report helps ophthalmologists to think about rare sources of endophthalmitis. Aim: The aim is to emphasize the importance of considering exogenous endophthalmitis in I.V. drug users who abuse drugs. Methods: A 40-year-old I.V. drug user man was referred complaining a history of the pain, redness and impaired vision of both eyes from three days ago. Perilimbal injection and anterior chamber cellular reaction were present in both eyes. Both corneas were hazy;corneal edema, abscess, sealed corneal lacerations and dull red reflex were visible in both eyes. Results: After an ultrasonography based on the suspicion of endophthalmitis, anterior chamber and vitreous aspiration and intravitreal injection of vancomycin 1 mg and ceftazidime 2.25 mg were performed. The right eye rapidly deteriorated and was eviscerated two days later and the left eye had a good response to medications. Conclusion: This report illustrates that the orbit can be a potential site of drug injection and endophthalmitis should be considered in individuals who abuse drugs.

Vertical mass isolation(VMI)is one of the novel methods for the seismic control of *** this method,the entire structure is assumed to consist of two mass and stiffness subsystems,and an isolated layer is located among *** this study,the magnetorheological damper in three modes:passive-off,passive-on,and semi-active mode with variable voltage between zero and 9 volts was used as an isolated layer between two ***-degrees-of-freedom structures with 5,10,and 15 floors in two dimensions were examined under 11 pairs of near field *** each level,the displacement of MR dampers was taken into *** responses of maximum displacement,maximum inter-story drift,and maximum base shear in controlled and uncontrolled buildings were compared to assess the suggested approach for seismic control of the *** to the results,the semi-active control method can reduce the response by more than 12%compared to the uncontrolled mode in terms of maximum displacement of the mass subsystem of the *** method can reduce more than 16%and 20%of the responses compared to the uncontrolled mode in terms of maximum inter-story drift and base shear of the structure,respectively.

Social acceptance is a challenging aspect that affects the development of geothermal energy and such issues have been reported in many countries,such as Germany,Japan,Greece,and *** this study,we discuss the barriers to social acceptance and associated risks faced by geothermal energy developers in East *** have conducted semi-structured interviews with international organ-izations(38.5%),public companies(38.5%),and private companies(23.1%).The interviews were qualitatively analysed using inductive content *** key barriers identified by respondents were the lack of political,market,and community awareness;lack of local political support;lack of public funding;human resource shortages;involuntary resettlement;local cultural aspects;employ-ment issues;and demographic *** lack of awareness of geothermal energy affects public and private funding,and leads to negative risk perception by ***,such as air,soil,and water pollution,land acquisition,social exclusion,resource risks,and drilling and project costs,were considered important by our *** this study,we emphasize the need for the following:raising awareness regarding geothermal energy;training professionals;implementing strong surface studies to reduce the risks asso-ciated with the exploration stage;and conducting environmental and social impact assessment reports to mitigate negative risks to local communities,while also ensuring their engagement and raising their awareness about the negative risks of geothermal energy.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of retention ponds on the environment and population health by analyzing water samples from various ponds in Mogadishu, to determine the prevalence of waterborne illnesses that occur during the rainy season in Mogadishu, and to find out what experts thought about the effects of retention ponds on the environment as well as population health in Mogadishu. Methods: Mixed designs were used in the study. The first design is an exploratory study where samples are taken from different retention ponds in Mogadishu. The second design involves gathering secondary data from the online FSNAU Dashboard regarding the incidence of rainfall and waterborne illnesses including malaria and cholera. Additionally, a cross-sectional survey of expert opinions using questionnaires was the third design. The 10 water samples were taken from retention ponds in Mogadishu as part of the sample size. Data on the fourth month was also gathered using the FNSAU dashboard, and seventy sample sizes were used for the expert self-administered questionnaire for the third design. Excel was used for data analysis in the initial design. While BMI SPSS versions 22 were used to analyze the data from the Self-administered Questionnaire, additional methods were utilized to compute descriptive statistics, such as mean and standard deviation, and to analyze demographic data in a frequency table. Findings: The results show that three samples had unsatisfactory scores (Grade D): Yaqshid (Warshadda Bastada) had a WQI of 80.85, Boondheer (Bondher Pond) had a WQI of 80.64, and Wartanabad (Xamar Jadiid Pond) had a WQI of 80.89. The remaining samples were all rated as fair (grade), which indicates that they ranged from 50 to 75. The months with the largest rainfall already occurred in December, November, and October, when the prevalence of diseases during the rainy season was highest for cholera cases.
