Gandaki River Basin(GRB)is an important part of the central Himalayan region,which provides habitat for numerous wild ***,climatic changes are making the habitat in this basin more *** paper aims to assess the potential impacts of climate change on the spatial distributions of habitat changes for two vulnerable species,Himalayan black bear(Ursus thibetanus laniger)and common leopard(Panthera pardus fusca),using the maximum entropy(Max Ent)species distribution *** occurrence locations were used along with several bioclimatic and topographic variables(elevation,slope and aspect)to fit the model and predict the potential distributions(current and future)of the *** results show that the highly suitable area of Himalayan black bear within the GRB currently encompasses around 1642 km^(2)(5.01%area of the basin),which is predicted to increase by 51 km^(2) in the future(2050).Similarly,the habitat of common leopard is estimated as 3999 km^(2)(12.19%of the GRB area),which is likely to increase to 4806 km^(2) in ***,the habitat of Himalayan black bear is predicted to increase in the eastern part(Baseri,Tatopani and north from Bhainse)and to decrease in the eastern(Somdang,Chhekampar),western(Burtibang and Bobang)and northern(Sangboche,Manang,Chhekampar)parts of the study ***,the habitat of common leopard is projected to decrease particularly in the eastern,western and southern parts of the basin,although it is estimated to be extended in the southeastern(Bhainse),western(Harichaur and northern Sandhikhark)and north-western(Sangboche)parts of the *** determine the habitat impact,the environmental variables such as elevation,Bio 15(precipitation seasonality)and Bio 16(precipitation of wettest quarter)highly contribute to habitat change of Himalayan black bear;while Bio 13(precipitation of wettest month)and Bio 15 are the main contributors for common ***,this study predicted that the suitable habita

A robust approach to identify roof bolts in 3D point cloud data captured from a mobile laser scanner

Roof bolts such as rock bolts and cable bolts provide structural support in underground *** assessment of these support structures is critical to maintain roof stability and minimise safety risks in underground *** study proposes a robust workflow to classify roof bolts in 3 D point cloud data and to generate maps of roof bolt density and *** workflow was evaluated for identifying roof bolts in an underground coal mine with suboptimal lighting and global navigation satellite system(GNSS)signals not *** approach is based on supervised classification using the multi-scale Canupo classifier coupled with a random sample consensus(RANSAC)shape detection algorithm to provide robust roof bolt *** issue of sparseness in point cloud data has been addressed through upsampling by using a moving least squares *** accuracy of roof bolt identification was measured by correct identification of roof bolts(true positives),unidentified roof bolts(false negatives),and falsely identified roof bolts(false positives)using correctness,completeness,and quality *** proposed workflow achieved correct identification of 89.27%of the roof bolts present in the test ***,considering the false positives and false negatives,the overall quality metric was reduced to 78.54%.

Laser scanning can provide timely assessments of mine sites despite adverse challenges in the operational *** there are several published articles on laser scanning,there is a need to review them in the context of underground mining *** this end,a holistic review of laser scanning is presented including progress in 3D scanning systems,data capture/processing techniques and primary applications in underground *** scanning technology has advanced significantly in terms of mobility and mapping,but there are constraints in coherent and consistent data collection at certain mines due to feature deficiency,dynamics,and environmental influences such as dust and *** suggest that laser scanning has matured over the years for change detection,clearance measurements and structure mapping ***,there is scope for improvements in lithology identification,surface parameter measurements,logistic tracking and autonomous *** scanning has the potential to provide real-time solutions but the lack of infrastructure in underground mines for data transfer,geodetic networking and processing capacity remain limiting ***,laser scanners are becoming an integral part of mine automation thanks to their affordability,accuracy and mobility,which should support their widespread usage in years to come.

Spoil characterisation using UAV-based optical remote sensing in coal mine dumps

The structural integrity of mine dumps is crucial for mining operations to avoid adverse impacts on the triple *** temporal assessments of coal mine dumps are a compliant requirement to ensure design reconciliation as spoil off-loading continues over ***,the conventional in-situ coal spoil characterisation is inefficient,laborious,hazardous,and prone to experts'observation *** this end,this study explores a novel approach to develop automated coal spoil characterisation using unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)based optical remote *** textural and spectral properties of the high-resolution UAV images were utilised to derive lithology and geotechnical parameters(i.e.,fabric structure and relative density/consistency)in the proposed *** raw images were converted to an orthomosaic using structure from motion aided ***,structural descriptors were computed per pixel to enhance feature modalities of the spoil ***,machine learning algorithms were employed with ground truth from experts as training and testing data to characterise spoil rapidly with minimal human *** characterisation accuracies achieved from the proposed approach manifest a digital solution to address the limitations in the conventional characterisation approach.

We present results from our Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope(GMRT)HⅠ,Himalayan Chandra Telescope(HCT)Hα,1 m Sampurnanand Telescope(ST)and 1.3 m Devasthal Fast Optical Telescope(DFOT)deep optical observations of the NGC 7805/6(Arp 112)system to test KUG 2359+311’s tidal dwarf galaxy(TDG)candidacy and explore the properties of the interacting *** GMRT HⅠmap shows no HⅠdetection associated with KUG 2359+311,nor any HⅠtail or bridge-like structure connecting KUG 2359+311 to the NGC 7805/6 *** HCT Hαimage,on the other hand,displays strong detections in KUG 2359+311,with net SFR0.035±0.009 M_(⊙)yr^(-1).The Hαdata constrain the redshift of KUG 2359+311 to 0.00≤z≤0.043,compared to the redshift of NGC 7806 *** detected to date have all been HⅠrich,and displayed HⅠ,ionised gas and stellar tidal debris trails(bridges or tails)linking them to their parent ***,neither our HⅠdata nor our optical imaging,while three magnitudes deeper than SDSS,reveals a tidal trail connecting KUG 2359+311 to NGC 7805/*** of HⅠ,presence of an old stellar population,ongoing star formation and reasonably high SFR compared to normal dwarf galaxies suggest that KUG 2359+311 may not be an Arp 112 *** is most likely a case of a regular gas-rich dwarf galaxy undergoing a morphological transformation after having lost its entire gas content to an interaction with the Arp 112 *** and metallicity from future spectroscopic observations of KUG 2359+311 would help clarify the nature of this enigmatic structure.

Distribution Behaviour of Dimethoate in Tea Leaf

A study was undertaken to assess the distribution behaviour of Dimethoate in tea leaf. Tea bushes were subjected to Dimethoate spray at recommended dose and double the recommended doses. The extraction of pesticide was done using chloroform and the analysis was done using a Hewlett-Packard 5890 series II gas chromatograph with Nitrogen Phosphorus Detector (NPD). The penetration behaviour of Dimethoate was studied in dry and wet seasons. Variations in penetration were observed in dry and wet seasons which was attributed to climatic factors like temperature, humidity, rainfall, sunlight and physicochemical properties of the residue like water solubility, partition coefficient and formulation type. Residues observed in the cell wall and tissues confirm its good penetrating ability inspite of its hydrophilic nature. Higher penetration in wet season as indicated can be attributed to the route through the stomatal pores.

Insecticidal Toxicity of Spilanthol from <i>Spilanthes acmella</i>Murr. against <i>Plutella xylostella</i>L.

The present study explored the Spilanthes acmella Murr. for insecticidal principle, a plant of high value. The seed extract showed insecticidal activity against Plutella xylostella. Further, bioassay guided isolation of bioactive compounds resulted in insecticidal active molecule, which was identified with the help of ESI-MS and NMR. Highest activity of 95 - 100 percent was observed at low dose of 2 g/l with spilanthol, while 60 - 70 and 80 - 90 percent mortality at 5 g/l in crude seed extracts prepared in methanol and hexane after 48 hours exposure, respectively. LC50 of 1.49, 5.14, 5.04, 11.75 g/l was observed with spilanthol, crude seed extract of methanol, hexane, deltamethrin, respectively. The findings indicate the potential of S. acmella with potent insecticidal toxicity for the management of P. xylostella and other insects of agricultural importance.

Inhibition of H2O2-induced DNA damage in single cell gel electrophoresis assay (comet assay) by castasterone isolated from leaves of centella asiatica

Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a large group of polyhydroxy steroids, which regulate numerous aspects of plant growth and development, including stem elongation, leaf bending, tracheary element differentiation, stress protection and photomorphogenesis. Recent studies indicate antigenotoxic and anticancerous activities of these compounds. The role of natural BRs in H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) -induced DNA damage in human lymphocytes is still unknown. The present study reports the presence of Castasterone from leaves of Centella asiatica, an important medicinal herb commonly used as a memory enhancer and immunomodulator. CA50 fraction isolated from Centella asiatica was characterized as Castasterone by electrospray ionization mass spectral data with standard Castasterone. An attempt has been made to study antigenotoxic activity of the isolated Castasterone against H2O2 -induced DNA damage in human blood lymphocytes using Single cell gel electrophoresis assay (Comet Assay). Castasterone at 10–9 M concentration proved to be effective in diminishing the DNA damage by 89.42 %.
