Iron ore microfines and concentrate have very limited uses in sintering processes. They are used in pelletization; however, this process is cost intensive. Furthermore, the microfines of non-coking coal and other carbon-bearing materials, e.g., blast-furnace flue dust （BFD） and coke frees, are not used extensively in the metallurgical industry because of operational difficu]ties and handling problems. In the present work, to utilize these microfines, coal composite iron oxide micropellets （2-6 mm in size） were produced through an innovative technique in which lime and molasses were used as binding materials in the micropellets. The micropellets were subsequently treated with CO2 or the industrial waste gas to induce the chemical bond formation. The results show that, at a very high carbon level of 22wt% （38wt% coal）, the cold crushing strength and abrasion index of the micropellets are 2.5-3 kg/cm2 and 5wt%-9wt%, respectively; these values indicate that the pellets are suitable for cold handling. The developed micropellets have strong potential as a heat source in smelting reduction in iron making and sintering to reduce coke breeze. The micropellets produced with BFD and coke fines （8wt%-12wt%） were used in iron ore sin- tering and were observed to reduce the coke breeze consumption by 3%-4%. The quality of the produced sinter was at par with that of the conventional blast-furnace sinter.

Pencycuron is a non-systemic protective fungicide for controlling sheath blight of rice. However, information on the fate of pencycuron in rice plant is lacking. The degradation of pencycuron in waterlogged tropic rice field was *** was applied at recommended field dose (187.5 g a.i./ha) and double recommended dose to cropped plots for three consecutive years. Pencycuron was rapidly degraded in rice plant at all doses of pencycuron application with first order half-lives of 1.57～2.77 d. The study revealed that pencycuron is safe from the human and environmental contamination point of view.

Qu’est-ce que la grippe ?Il s’agit d’une infection respiratoire d’origine virale, hautement contagieuse, qui se transmet entre individus par voie dite aérienne (toux, éternuement). On distingue trois grands groupes de virus de la grippe : A, B et C. Ceux de type A, qui affectent les canards, poulets, porcs et baleines, mais aussi les hommes, sont les plus *** surface des virus est hérissée de spicules, dont les virus A et B comportent deux types : l’hémagglutinine (ha) et la neuraminidase (NA), également appelées protéines de surface. Les chercheurs ont identifié 16 sous-types de ha et 9 sous-types de NA, ce qui donne au total 144 combinaisons possibles de virus grippaux de type A. Mais seules 3 combinaisons (H1N1, H1N2, H3N2) se transmettent d’homme  homme  ce jour.

Effect of potassium on soil conservation and productivity of maize/cowpea based crop rotations in the north-west Indian Himalayas

Plots under conservation tillage may require higher amount of potassium(K) application for augmenting productivity due to its stratification in upper soil layers, thereby reducing K supplying capacity in a medium or long-term period. To test this hypothesis, a field experiment was performed in 2002-2003 and 2006-2007 to study the effect of K and several crop rotations on yield, water productivity, carbon sequestration, grain quality, soil K status and economic benefits derived in maize(Zea mays L)/cowpea(Vigna sinensis L.) based cropping system under minimum tillage(MT). All crops recorded higher grain yield with a higher dose of K(120 kg K2 O ha-1) than recommended K(40 kg K2 O ha-1). The five years' average yield data showed that higher K application(120 kg K2 O ha-1) produced 16.4%(Phan maize based rotation. The maximum enhancement was found in cowpea-mustard rotation. Relationship between yield and sustainable indices revealed that only agronomic efficiency of fertilizer input was significantly correlated with yield. Similarly, higherdoses of K application not only increased the water use efficiency(WUE) of all crops, but also reduced runoff and soil loss by 16.5% and 15.8% under maize and 23.3% and 19.7% under cowpea cover, respectively. This study also revealed that on an average 16.5% of left over carbon input contributed to soil organic carbon(SOC). Here, cowpea based rotation with the higher K application increased carbon sequestration in soil. Potassium fertilization also significantly improved the nutritional value of harvested grain by increasing the protein content for maize(by 9.5%) and cowpea(by 10.6%). The oil content in mustard increased by 5.0% and 6.0% after maize and cowpea, respectively. Imidacloprid is a newly introduced broad-spectrum chloronicotinyl insecticide and will find its way in agricultural production, particularly in Asia. However, information on the fate of imidacloprid in crop plants is lacking. The degradation of imidaclopnd in processed CTC tea and tea liquor was investigated in the present study in which imidacloprid was applied at recommended application rate （30.0 g a.i./ha） and twice the recommended application rate （60.0 g a.i./ha） for three consecutive seasons. Imidacloprid was rapidly dissipated in processed tea following first order reaction kinetics at all application rates and had half-lives of 0.9 1-1.16 d with the residue in tea liquor found to be below detectable limit on 3rd day samples. The study revealed that imidacloprid is safe for human consumption and will not pose any residual toxicity problem.

Farming methods impact on soil and water conservation efficiency under tea[Camellia sinensis(L.)]plantation in Nilgiris of South India

Growing of tea on sloping land without any soil and water conservation measures causes enormous soil loss especially in the initial *** sound soil and water conservation planning,there is a need to evaluate the various conservation measures as related to the amount of expected runoff and soil *** this context,a field study was conducted in the farmer's field in Nigiris of South India for evaluating the impact of farming methods on soil and water conservation eficiency under new tea plantation One year old B-6 tea clones were planted at double hedge spacing(135 cm×75 cm×75 cm)in two slopes(8-12%and 30-35%)with treatments viz,contour staggered trenches(CST),vegetative barrier(VB),CST alternate with VB,CST with cover crop of beans and farmers'practice of *** runoff(14.6%)was observed from CST with cover crop of beans followed by CST(15.4%)under 8-12%slope range with exactly similar trend in runoff from the plots under 30-35%*** to runof,minimum soil loss was observed from CST(4.9 and 6.9t ha^(-1)yr^(-1))fllowed by CST with cover crop of beans(5.3 and 73 t ha^(-1)yr^(-1))under 8-12%and 30-35%*** CST and CST with cover crop of beans are resulted in better soil moisture under both the slope ranges in comparison to remaining measures as well as farmers'practice of ***,either CST alone or in combination with cover crop of beans are recommended for soil and water conservation under new tea plantation in the hill slopes.
