Alpine Activity Patterns.of Mitopus.morio(Fabricius. 1779) are Induced by Variations.in Temperature and Humidity at Different s.ales.in Central Norway

Our res.arch addres.es.ques.ions.about how micro-climate affects.activity abundance of a common and wides.read harves.man in an alpine ecos.s.em. Activity patterns.of the Harves.man Mitopus.morio(Fabricius. 1779) were s.udied along different alpine gradients.in the central Norwegian s.andes. Within a nes.ed des.gn, we s.rveyed 18 alpine habitats.with pitfall traps.and microclimatological equipment along oceanic-continental, two elevational, and(fine-s.aled) microtopographic gradients. s.tes.in the oceanic region of the s.andes.s.owed generally higher abundance of M. morio than s.tes.in the continental region. Furthermore, along the elevational gradient, middle-alpine s.tes.s.owed higher abundances.than low-alpine s.tes. Thes. general patterns.are bes. explained by higher humidity in the oceanic region and in the middlealpine belt. Focus.ng at a finer s.ale, i.e. one elevational level within each region, revealed partly oppos.ng activity patterns.within relatively s.ort dis.ances. While in the wes.ern middle-alpine belt thes. patterns.were bes. explained by humidityrelated meas.res.but now with higher activity abundance during drier conditions. in the drier eas.ern middle-alpine belt heat s.ms.rather than humidity were found to be the bes. explanatoryvariables.for the obs.rved patterns. Hence, our res.lts.imply a pronounced different reaction of the two populations.towards.climatic variables.that partly even contradict the previous.y des.ribed general pattern. Regardles. whether thes. differences.in activity abundance in M. morio are a form of phenotypic plas.icity or adaptation, our findings.s.res. the importance of detailed autecological knowledge combined with fine-s.aled climatic meas.rements.when aiming at predictions.about pos.ible future ecos.s.em s.ructures.and s.atiotemporal phenomena. M. morio proves.to be an ideal biogeographic model organis. for unders.anding s.atio-temporal res.ons.s.of alpine ecos.s.ems.under modified climatic conditions.

To s.lve s.ch puzzle, we conducted artificial paras.tis. and cros.-fos.ering experiments.in Rus.et s.arrow （Pos.et cinnomomeus..Res.lts. The pres.nt s.udy s.owed that Rus.et s.arrows.have no egg recognition ability, but recognize their own nes.lings.and eject alien chicks.or s.arve them to death. They may us. vis.al cues.in chick recognition, although they accept s.s.er s.ecies.Tree s.arrow （Pos.et montonus..Conclus.ons. By rejecting nes.lings.of foreign s.ecies. Rus.et s.arrows.have s.cceeded to es.ape from the brood paras.tis. by cuckoos.and other paras.tes. Our s.udies.s.ed light on the puzzle why s.me s.ecies.are not utilized by cuckoo paras.tes.as.hos.s.

As.y-throated Parrotbill(Paradoxornis.alphons.anus. and Vinous.throated Parrotbill(***), which both originated from the Himalayan area, but differ s.gnificantly in their dis.ribution ***: In Guizhou, s.uthwes.ern China, the As.y-throated Parrotbill with a res.ricted dis.ribution range had s.aller heads.whils. the Vinous.throated Parrotbill with a large dis.ribution range had larger ***, there were no differences.in head s.ze between As.y-throated Parrotbills.and allopatric populations.of Vinous.throated Parrotbills.Jiangxi and Hebei).Furthermore, the tendency of variation in bite force was.oppos.te to that in head s.ze with populations.with larger head s.ze having weaker bite ***: We s.owed that there are no differences.in head s.ze between the As.y-throated Parrotbill and allopatric populations.of Vinous.throated Parrotbill, which provides.evidence for the hypothes.s.that differences.in head s.ze in the Guizhou populations.of two s.s.er s.ecies.are probably the res.lt of local adaptation rather than *** s.udy has.implications.for avian dis.ers.l and adaption related to head s.ze s.ch as.diet ecology and vocalizations.

In Africa, acute rheumatic fever is.endemic. Cardiac involvement is.one of the mos. common complications.in the form of valvular heart dis.as. repres.nting all damages.to the heart valves. It is.in this.pers.ective that we realized this.s.udy whos. general objective was.to evaluate the res.lts.of mitral repair s.rgery in children in s.negal and the s.ecific objective was.to s.ate the indications.for mitral repair s.rgery and as.es. the res.lts.in terms.of morbidity and mortality. This.is.a retros.ective and analytical monocentric s.udy, in the thoracic and cardiovas.ular s.rgery department of FANN National Univers.ty Hos.ital Center in Dakar. It took place over a period of 30 months. All the patients.who underwent mitral s.rgery, aged les. than 18 years.were included. The total number of patients.was.63, including 39 girls.and 24 boys. a s.x ratio of 0.62. The average age at the time of the s.rgery was.12 years.old [5 - 17]. The functional s.mptomatology was.dominated by the dys.nea found in all the patients. Cardiac ultras.und was.diagnos.d with mitral regurgitation in all patients. For all s.rgical procedures. the approach was.a vertical midline s.ernotomy. The mitral valve was.approached by left atriotomy in 40 patients.(63.5%) and by trans.eptal way in 23 patients. All patients.had undergone mitral valve repair as.ociated or not with either aortic valve repair in 9 patients.(14.2%), aortic valve replacement in 3 patients.(4.8%), or one tricus.id valve repair in 31 patients.(49%). The average duration of intubation was.6 hours.[2 - 52]. The average length of s.ay in intens.ve care was.2 days. Pos.operative complications.have been obs.rved. s.rgery was.performed in 10 patients.with 3 mitral valve replacements. 2 aortic valve replacements. a double mitral and an aortic valve replacement as.ociated with a tricus.id repair and in 4 cas.s.a perfection of their mitral repair. Early and late s.rgical mortality was.zero. The average follow-up time for our patients.was.9

Tuberculos.s.is.a major public health problem, es.ecially in developing countries. Neuro-meningeal involvement is.rare but repres.nts.one of the mos. s.vere forms.with high morbidity and mortality. We report the cas. of an is.hemic s.roke complicating neuromeningeal and pulmonary tuberculos.s.in a four-month-old infant at the National Hos.ital Center of children Albert Royer (s.negal). The cas. was.a four-month-old, male infant with no his.ory. His.vaccination was.up to date according to s.negal’s.expanded vaccination program. There was.no notion of tuberculos.s.contagion. He was.s.en for a prolonged fever for more than a month and chronic cough. He had moderate malnutrition. Neurological examination revealed coma, meningeal s.ndrome, generalized tonic convuls.ons.and hypertonia. The pupils.were in bilateral mios.s. Os.eotendinous.reflexes.were abolis.ed with a bilateral Babins.i s.gn. He als. had s.vere res.iratory dis.res., bilateral pulmonary condens.tion s.ndrome. Brain computed tomography was.in favor of an is.hemic s.roke. The tes. GeneXpert MTB/RIF was.pos.tive on cerebros.inal fluid and gas.ric tubing fluid. The curative treatment was.bas.d on a quadruple therapy bas.d on rifampicin, is.niazid, pirazinamide and ethambutol. The evolution was.unfavorable with the death of the patient.

A mechatronic s.s.em bas.d on the micro-macro-kinematic cons.s.s.of an indus.rial robot and a piezoelectric s.age mounted on the robot’s.end-effector and has.to carry out operations.like micro-as.embly or micro-milling. The piezoelectric s.age has.to compens.te the pos.tioning error of the robot. Therefore, the pos.tion of the robot’s.end-effector has.to be meas.red with high accuracy. This.paper pres.nts.a high accuracy 6D-meas.rement s.s.em, which is.us.d to determine the pos.tion and orientation of the robot’s.end-effector. We s.art with the des.ription of the operational concept and components.of the meas.rement s.s.em. Then we look at image proces.ing methods. camera calibration and recons.ruction methods.and choos. the mos. accurate ones. We apply the well-known pin-hole camera model to calibrate s.ngle cameras. Then we apply the epipolar geometry to des.ribe the relations.ip between two cameras.and calibrate them as.a s.ereo vis.on s.s.em. A dis.ortion model is.als. applied to enhance the accuracy of the s.s.em. The meas.rement res.lts.are pres.nted in the end of the paper.
