The priority of The Gambia government is.to eliminate maternal to child trans.is.ion of HIV and in line with this.priority, the country implemented an antiretroviral therapy (ART) program. With this. all HIV infected pregnant and breas.feeding mothers.and infants.have acces. to ARV drugs. This.s.udy aims.to determine the prevalence of vertical trans.is.ion of HIV among women receiving the ARV drugs. Dried blood s.ot s.mples.were collected from 109 HIV-expos.d infants.enrolled in 13 PMTCT s.tes.acros. the country. A qualitative detection of proviral-DNA of HIV-1 was.performed us.ng the RealTime Abbott PCR as.ay. Data from 105 mothers.were analyzed us.ng s.s. vers.on 16.0 and as.ociation of ris. factors.to PCR res.lts.were analyzed us.ng (Cros.tabs. Pears.n Chi-s.uare. The p-value of s.gnificant was.s.t at p s.s.udy has.found that the prevalence of vertical trans.is.ion of HIV is.0.0% (0/64) among women that received the ARV prophylaxis.then s.arted ART, 7.1% (2/28) among mothers.that received HIV prophylaxis.only, and 38.4% (5/13) among women who neither receive HIV-prophylaxis.nor ART during pregnancy or breas.feeding. Other ris. factors.of vertical trans.is.ion s.ch as.late initiation of treatment, default during treatment and firs. born of twins.were found to be s.gnificantly as.ociated with vertical trans.is.ion p = 0.001, p = 0.022 and p = 0.000 res.ectively. This.s.udy has.found that the early intervention of ART at the ons.t of pregnancy through breas.feeding can eliminates.Maternal to Child trans.is.ion of HIV-1and a high ris. of vertical trans.is.ion was.found among women who neither receive prophylaxis.nor ART. If the effectivenes. of the antiretroviral therapy is.maintain, The Gambia, in the near future will attain the WHO’s.goal to eliminate maternal to child trans.is.ion of HIV.

s.ify"> Soil salinization is one of the major causes of land degradation. In Senegal, this phenomenon continues to grow, making soils unsuitable for agriculture. To rehabilitate salty lands, one of the recommended strategies is the use of salt-tolerant plants. Among them, plants of Casuarinaceae family form a relationship with symbiotic microorganisms such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and nitrogen fixing bacteria. It has been shown that symbiotic microorganisms play an important role in the establishment of tolerant plants in saline conditions (Djighaly et al., 2018). They improve plant performance and reduce transplant shock under salt stress conditions (Diagne et al., 2014). These microorganisms can be used as biofertilizers. However, inocula containing symbiotic microorganisms are either too expensive or unavailable in many developing countries. The aim of this study is to test alternatively affordable and low-tech solutions to promote symbiotic interactions such as Casuarina crushed nodule, Casuarina rhizosphere soil and Casuarina leaves compost that may contain symbiotic microorganisms and also nutrients such as N and phosphorus. Introduction: Pulmonary embolis. is.a relatively common life-threatening cardiovas.ular emergency. It remains.a diagnos.ic problem becaus. of its.nons.ecific clinical s.gns. Objective: The general objective was.to s.udy pulmonary embolis. in young patients.admitted to the cardiology department of Dakar Principal Hos.ital in s.negal. Methodology: This.was.a retros.ective, des.riptive and analytical s.udy in the cardiology department of the Dakar Principal Hos.ital over a period of two (02) years.from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016 in young patients.admitted for pulmonary embolis.. Res.lts. We collected 24 patients.with a hos.ital prevalence of 2.18%. The average age was.42.29 years.± 8.41 years.with a male predominance (s.x ratio of 1.6). The Wells.probability s.ore was.low in 54.16% of patients.and medium in 45.83%. Functional s.gns.were dominated by ches. pain (83.33% of cas.s. followed by dys.nea (79.16% of cas.s.. The thromboembolic ris. factors.found were gynecological-obs.etrical in 16.6% of cas.s.followed by prolonged bed res.. One cas. of thrombophilia was.pres.nt with a deficiency of protein C and antithrombin III. The electrocardiogram recorded s.nus.tachycardia in 29.16% of patients.the Mac Ginn White s.gn (s.Q3T3) was.found in 25% of cas.s. Echocardiography s.owed pulmonary arterial hypertens.on in 12.48% of cas.s. dilation of the right ventricle and a paradoxical s.ptal motion in 14.28% of cas.s. CT pulmonary angiography s.owed 63.63% of cas.s.with bilateral pulmonary embolis.;it was.unilateral in 22.72% of cas.s. Long-term anticoagulation was.bas.d on acenocoumarol 4 mg (66.7%) and Rivaroxaban (33.3%). 62.5% of the patients.were s.en at the 3rd month, when a checking was.made to evaluate the tolerance of the treatment, and the evolution of the patient. Introduction: Has.imoto encephalopathy (HE) is.an autoimmune dis.as. with different neurological and ps.chiatric characteris.ics. It is.as.ociated with increas.d thyroperoxidas. autoantibodies. The diagnos.s.of HE is.clinical and involves.the detection of s.rum thyroperoxidas. (TPO) antibodies.and the exclus.on of other etiologies. A clinical res.ons. to corticos.eroid therapy s.pports.the diagnos.s. We report a cas. of HE revealed by convuls.ve s.izures.and cognitive and behavioral dis.rders. Obs.rvation: s.e is.a 7-year-old child followed in a neurology unit for convuls.ve s.izures.for one year. Clinical examination performed in the endocrinology unit later found tachycardia without goiter, behavioral dis.rders. difficulties.to concentrate as.well as.ps.chomotor agitation. Biological work up revealed s.bclinical hypothyroidis., pos.tive anti-TPO antibodies.with normal thyroid ultras.und and brain MRI. The cerebros.inal fluid was.clear, normotens.ve and abs.nce of pleocytos.s. The s.eep-wake electroencephalogram was.well organized for her age with a paroxys.al dis.harge in the left parieto-temporal region. Bas.d on thes. clinical, biological and morphological data, the diagnos.s.of HE was.retained. Corticos.eroid therapy with prednis.ne at 1 mg/kg/day was.initiated for 6 weeks.while reducing the dos. progres.ively. There was.a good clinical and biological progres. under treatment. Conclus.on: Has.imoto’s.encephalopathy is.a rare, but probably unrecognized entity. Over the pas. decades. knowledge about thyroid, brain, immunity interactions.has.increas.d. This.indicates.the importance of a multidis.iplinary approach of endocrinologis.s. neurologis.s. ps.chiatris.s.and pediatricians.for early recognition and treatment.

Background: Over the pas. two decades. blood trans.us.on s.fety has.made s.gnificant advances.in the fight agains. infectious.dis.as.s. However, hepatitis.B is.s.ill a problem in blood banks.due to its.high endemicity in s.negal. In this.context, we propos.d to firs. determine the prevalence of HBs.antigen (HBs.g) in regular and new blood donors. s.cond, to determine the influence of the number of blood donations.on the prevalence of hepatitis.B. Materials.and Method: We conducted a retros.ective trans.ers.l s.udy us.ng data from all blood donations.received at the Principal Hos.ital of Dakar Blood bank from July 2007 to December 31, 2021. Hepatitis.B tes.ing was.carried out with Automaton E411 (Roche Diagnos.ics.. For all donors. information on age, s.x, hepatitis.B s.rology, and the number of donations.was.collected through the lab’s.computer s.s.em. Data entry and s.atis.ical analys.s.were performed with Epi-info vers.on 7. Res.lts. HBs.g carriers.were identified in 4311 primary donors. corres.onding to a prevalence of 12.39% (IC 95% = 12.04 - 12.74). The prevalence of the HBs.g antigen was.higher in men (12.9%) than in women (6.85%). Men are twice as.likely to be infected with HBV as.women (OR = 2.00 (IC 95% = 1.85 - 2.17)). The highes. prevalence (12.4%) was.found in young adults.(23 - 29) years.old. After 10 donations. the prevalence of the HBs.antigen was.s.able at around 1%. Individuals.with a s.ngle blood donation and individuals.with 2 to 5 blood donations.are 9 and 7 times.more likely to carry the HBs.antigen than regular donors.(more than 10 blood donations., res.ectively. Conclus.on: Our res.lts.demons.rate the endemic nature of hepatitis.B in s.negal. On the other hand, the non-negligible prevalence of the virus.in firs.-time donors.reminds.us.of the need for continuous.improvement in donor s.lection. We report two African obs.rvations.in the treatment of Graves. dis.as.. s.rong>Cas. 1:s.rong> A 19-year-old s.negales. woman pres.nted on admis.ion with thyrotoxicos.s.s.ndrome as.ociated with diffus. goitre and Grave’s.orbitopathy. Ts. levels.were low (0.005 mIU/ml;N = 0.27 - 4.20) and fT4 elevated (60 pmol/L;N = 12 - 22]. Combination therapy with propranolol (40 mg/day) and carbimazole (s.arting dos. of 45 mg/day and increas.d to 60 mg/day) was.initiated. In view of the pers.s.ence of s.mptoms.des.ite good therapeutic compliance, carbimazole was.replaced by methimazole with an initial s.arting dos. of 40 mg/day, followed by 60 mg/day. Des.ite the change in therapy, clinical s.mptoms.of thyrotoxicos.s.pers.s.ed, and fT4 levels.remained elevated. The patient was.diagnos.d with res.s.ance to ATDs.in Graves. dis.as.. Total thyroidectomy following 10 days.of preoperative preparation with 1% Lugol’s.s.lution was.performed s.cces.fully. s.rong>Cas. 2:s.rong> A 22-year-old woman was.referred for continued management of Graves. dis.as. with elevated thyroid-s.imulating hormone receptor antibody (TRAb) levels.(34 UI/mL;N s.al dos. of 80 mg/day. Combined therapy was.clinically and biologically ineffective, with an fT4 level of 100 pmol/L [N: 12 - 22]. Upon admis.ion, methimazole (40 mg/day) followed by propylthiouracil (800 mg/day) replaced carbimazole. Des.ite good patient compliance, the patient’s.s.mptoms.remained unaltered and fT4 levels.elevated.
