Mathematical modeling for Delta and Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 transmission dynamics in Greece

A compartmental,epidemiological,mathematical model was developed in order to analyze the transmission dynamics of Delta and Omicron variant,of SARS-CoV-2,in *** model was parameterized twice during the 4th and 5th wave of the *** 4th wave refers to the period during which the Delta variant was dominant(approximately July to December of 2021)and the 5th wave to the period during which the Omicron variant was dominant(approximately January to May of 2022),in accordance with the official data from the National Public Health Organization(NPHO).Fitting methods were applied to evaluate important parameters in connection with the transmission of the variants,as well as the social behavior of population during these periods of *** models revealed higher numbers of contagiousness and cases of asymptomatic disease during the Omicron variant period,but a decreased rate of hospitalization compared to the Delta ***,parameters related to the behavior of the population in Greece were also *** specifically,the use of protective masks and the abidance of social distancing *** revealed that over 5,000 deaths could have been avoided,if mask usage and social distancing were 20%more efficient,during the short period of the Delta and Omicron ***,the spread of the variants was assessed using viral load *** data were recorded from PCR tests at 417 Army Equity Fund Hospital(NiMTS),in Athens and the Ct values from 746 patients with COViD-19 were processed,to explain transmission phenomena and disease severity in *** period when the Delta variant prevailed in the country,the average Ct value was calculated as 25.19(range:12.32e39.29),whereas during the period when the Omicron variant prevailed,the average Ct value was calculated as 28(range:14.41e39.36).in conclusion,our experimental study showed that the higher viral load,which is related to the Delta variant,may interpret the severity of the

Combined musculoskeletal and vascular injuries of the extremities are conditions in which a multidisciplinary approach is a sine qua non to ensure life initially and limb viability *** injuries as part of musculoskeletal trauma are usually the result of the release of a high energy load in the wound site so that the prognosis is determined by the degree of soft-tissue damage,duration of limb ischemia,patient’s medical status and presence of associated *** management of these injuries is challenging and requires a specific algorithm of action,because they are usually characterized by increased morbidity,amputation rate,infection,neurological and functional deficits,and they could be life *** vascular injuries are rare and occur either isolated or in the context of major combined musculoskeletal trauma,the high index of suspicion,imaging control,and timely referral of the patient to organized trauma centers ensure the best functional outcome of the extremity in such challenging *** after a successful initial treatment of a combined trauma pattern,long-term follow-up is crucial to prevent and detect early possible *** purpose of this manuscript is to provide an update on diagnosis and treatment of combined musculoskeletal and vascular injuries of the extremities,from an orthopedic point of view.

Aim of this study is to assess the reliability, validity and psychometric properties of the Greek language version of the Dysmorphic Concern Questionnaire (DCQ). Method: The Greek language version of the DCQ scale was presented to 88 healthy individuals (57 women and 31 men) and 32 subjects suffering from body dysmorphic disorder BDD (20 women and 12 men) matched for age and sex. All the BDD group subjects and 57 subjects from the healthy individual group were also assessed according to the following psychometric scales: Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90) scale, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), State-Trait Anxiety inventory (STAi 1 and STAi-2) and the Zung Self-Rating Depression scales. Results: Regarding the DCQ scale, the analysis revealed that one single factor was extracted that accounted for 71.4% of the total variance. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.933, indicating a high level of internal consistency. Comparison between groups, healthy individuals vs BDD patients, showed statistically significant differences in almost every item of the SCL-90 scale (p ions of DCQ score, the DCQ factor score and DCQ T factor with SCL-90, EPQ, as well as the ZUNG depressive scales present high correlation with most items of SCL-90 and ZUNG and STAi-2 (p Conclusion: The Greek version of the Dysmorphic Concern Questionnaire (DCQ) is a valid and reliable instrument, appropriate for both research and clinical settings where dysmorphic concern or body image is a variable which needs to be measured or screened for.

in the present work, two new, （multi-）parametric programming （mp-P）-inspired algorithms for the solutionof mixed-integer nonlinear programming （MiNLP） problems are developed, with their main focus being onprocess synthesis problems. The algorithms are developed for the special case in which the nonlinearitiesarise because of logarithmic terms, with the first one being developed for the deterministic case, and thesecond for the parametric case （p-MiNLP）. The key idea is to formulate and solve the square system of thefirst-order Karush-Kuhn-Tucker （KKT） conditions in an analytical way, by treating the binary variables and/or uncertain parameters as symbolic parameters. To this effect, symbolic manipulation and solution tech-niques are employed. in order to demonstrate the applicability and validity of the proposed algorithms, twoprocess synthesis case studies are examined. The corresponding solutions are then validated using state-of-the-art numerical MiNLP solvers. For p-MiNLP, the solution is given by an optimal solution as an explicitfunction of the uncertain parameters.

Parkinson’s disease is a common condition usually treated by dopaminergic agents and many behavioral abnormalities such as impulse control disorders (iCD) are connected with that usage. Pathological gambling, a form of iCD includes is a clinical condition that disrupts personal, family and occupational activity. Pramipexole a D2 AND D3 agonist may be associated with pathological gambling. We present a case of 74-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD). His doctor advised him to take pramipexole 0.18 mg/p.o./day. A month after the onset of treatment he manifested a behavior of pathological gambling. After the discontinuation of the drug all this behavior was interrupted.

Simultaneous development of adenocarcinoma and primary B cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT) lymphoma of the colon is rare;only one case has so far been reported out of 13 cases with the coexistence of colonic adenocarcinoma with involvement of the colon by *** hereby present three more cases,two females(aged 75 and 71 years) and a male(aged 72 years).All three underwent colectomy based on a preoperative biopsy revealing colonic *** examination of the resection specimens disclosed a colonic adenocarcinoma in two cases,whereas a tubulovillous adenoma with superficial foci of intraepithelial adenocarcinoma was seen in the ***,in all three cases,a coexisting MALT lymphoma was diagnosed in the colon(1 case),in both colon and adjacent lymph nodes(1 case) or in colonic lymph nodes and omentum(1 case).in the last case,a post-operative bone marrow biopsy revealed extensive infiltration of the bone marrow,due to which the patient received postoperative *** and treatment issues are briefly discussed.

Approach to a Fifth-Order Boundary Value Problem, via Sperner's Lemma

We consider the five-point boundary value problem for a fifth-order differential equation, where the nonlinearity is superlinear at both the origin and +infinity. Our method of proof combines the Kneser’s theorem with the well-known from combinatorial topology Sperner’s lemma. We also notice that our geometric approach is strongly based on the associated vector field.
