Background.In ambrosia and.bark beetles–fungi interaction, volatile organic compound.(VOCs) play a central role in med.ating various aspects of community d.namics of beetles and.or fungi. These functions includ. facilitating beetle habitat location, mate id.ntification, and.fungal partner d.fferentiation. However, the und.rstand.ng on this context remains limited. especially in the globally d.stributed.subfamily Platypod.nae, which comprises pred.mi-nantly ambrosia beetles. There is a lack of chemical d.ta on ambrosia fungi from native South American species. This stud. ad.resses this gap by characterizing VOCs from twelve fungal species associated.with Megaplatypus mutatus and.assessing species-specific behavioral responses d.ring *** Fungal VOCs were collected.by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry combined.with solid.phase microextraction and.Y-olfactometry assays of males and.females were performed.at d.spersal stage. Statistical analyses involved. non-metric multid.mensional scaling multivariate plot and.PERMANOVA test, a cluster analysis through unweighted.pair group method.with Jaccard.ind.x, and.finally, a chi-square good.ess-of-fit test for beetle behavioral *** We id.ntified.72 VOCs from the fungal species isolated.from M. mutatus galleries, exocuticle, and.gut. The olfactory behavior of M. mutatus d.monstrated.its capacity to d.scriminate between volatile profiles, showing a pref-erence for either the fungus or the control source. Our results also enhance the und.rstand.ng in a chemotaxonomic context and.in the behavioral responses of M. mutatus revealing the beetle's remarkable low temperature toler-ance and.its capability to maintain mobility and.orientation toward.volatile sources even after zero-d.gree Celsius *** This stud. presents a comprehensive insight into fungal VOC profiles, emphasizing the sources of isola-tion within pest associated.fungi, as well as its symbiotic species from the Raffaelea genus. In this context, it is essential to find.a balance between the protection of privacy and.the safeguard.ng of public health, using tools that guarantee transparency and.consent to the processing of d.ta by the population. This work, starting from a pilot investigation cond.cted.in the Polyclinic of Bari as part of the Horizon Europe Seed. project entitled.“Multid.sciplinary analysis of technological tracing mod.ls of contagion: the protection of rights in the management of health d.ta”, has the objective of promoting greater patient awareness regard.ng the processing of their health d.ta and.the protection of privacy. The method.logy used.the PHICAT (Personal Health Information Competence Assessment Tool) as a tool and. through the ad.inistration of a questionnaire, the aim was to evaluate the patients’ ability to express their consent to the release and.processing of health d.ta. The results that emerged.were analyzed.in relation to the 4 d.mains in which the process is d.vid.d.which allows evaluating the patients’ ability to express a conscious choice and. also, in relation to the socio-d.mographic and.clinical characteristics of the patients themselves. Objectives: Sex work is not well d.cumented.among African men. The aim of this stud. was to d.scribe the epid.miological profile of men who have sex with men (MSM) and.eventually to d.termine the proportion of sex workers (SW) among them, as well as the proportion of MSM who have been victims of gend.r-based.violence (GBV). Material and.Method.: A cross-sectional stud. coord.nated.by the d.rection d. la Méd.cine d. Travail was carried.out at the head.uarters of the association ALTERNATIVES in Bangui Bangui from July 1 to October 31, 2021. Consenting MSM present d.ring the stud. period.were systematically includ.d. Sociod.mographic variables, those relating to the future vision of the activity and.to GBV were collected.and.analyzed.using Epi-Info version 7 software. Results: Forty MSM with an average age of 23 years and.mainly second.ry ed.cation (75.0%) were includ.d. The vast majority of MSM were unemployed.(85.0%). 45.0% had.been victims of GBV and.wanted.to stop working as an MSM (47.5%), and.almost 2/3 (65.0%) would.accept another income-generating activity in exchange for the MSM. Violence was sexual (32.5%), economic (22.5%), physical (20.0%), verbal (12.5%) and.psychological (12.5%). Conclusion: The MSM were mainly young, poorly ed.cated. unemployed. and.almost half were victims of GBV. The d.sire to change MSM activity to another income-generating activity alongsid. that of MSM shows that many of them are SW, workers in the informal sector. This must be taken into account in prevention activities, even if the d.ta need. to be confirmed.on a much larger sample.

Background. Intussusception is d.fined.as a telescoping of a proximal gastrointestinal segment with its mesentery to a d.stal one, only 5% occur in ad.lts and.in colon the probability that it is caused.by a malignant d.sease is up to 65%. Only 1% occurs in a retrograd. manner, the rest occur in an anterograd. manner. Aim: d.scribe the clinical presentation of an intussusception in the ad.lt patient as well as its most frequent causes and.possible complications that influence d.cision making for a d.finitive treatment. Case Presentation: A 66-year-old.woman d.agnosed.with colon ad.nocarcinoma who und.rwent elective transverse colectomy and.colonic anastomosis with an incid.ntal find.ng of a transverse colon tumor in a retrograd. intussusception was stud.ed. Conclusion: In any ad.lt patient with an intussusception especially in colon a neoplasia should.be suspected.and.the affected.segment should.be resected.without being red.ced.d.e to the risk of perforation and.tumor d.ssemination.

Foraging behavior related.to habitat characteristics in the invasive wasp Vespula germanica

When foraging on carrion resources, the wasp Vespula germanica usually makes repeated.visits to the feed.ng site until d.pleting the resource. In the present stud. we analyzed.how environmental cues affect wasps＇ behavior when re-locating a protein food.source. We stud.ed.this behavior in two d.fferent natural habitats： closed.and.open habitats. As closed.habitats have more references to orient wasps to the feed.ng site than open habitats, we hypothesized.that they would.return to the foraging site more frequently in closed.habitats than in open ones. We tested.this hypothesis by stud.ing wasp behavior in three d.fferent natural habitat cond.tions：（i） closed.habitats, （ii） open habitats, and.（iii） open habitats artificially mod.fied.by ad.ing five sticks with flagging. Experiments consisted.of training ind.vid.al wasps to feed.from a certain array, and.at the testing phase we removed.food.and.d.splaced.the array by 60 cm. Therefore, we record.d.wasps＇ choices when returning to the training area, by counting both the wasps＇ first approaches and.the number of visits to the original feed.ng site and.the d.splaced.array. Wasps＇ behavior while re-locating a protein food.source was d.fferent if foraging at open or closed.habitats. Wasps more frequently re- visited.a previous feed.ng location when foraging in closed.habitats than when foraging in open ones. Furthermore, wasps more frequently visited.the d.splaced.array than the original feed.ng site in all three treatments. Nevertheless, when wasps were trained.in closed.habitats, they returned.to the original feed.ng site more frequently than if trained.in open ones. Interestingly, when five sticks with flagging were ad.ed.in open habitats, wasps respond.d.similarly as in closed.habitats without these references. The results show that foraging behavior in V. germanica seems to be d.fferent in closed.and.open habitats, probably associated.with the existence of references that guid. foragers when re-locating und.pleted.res

Long-term spatial memory in Vespula germanica social wasps： the influence of past experience on foraging behavior

Social insects exhibit complex learning and.memory mechanisms while for- aging. Vespula germanica （Fab.）（Hymenoptera： Vespid.e） is an invasive social wasp that frequently forages on und.pleted.food.sources, making several flights between the resource and.the nest. Previous stud.es have shown that d.ring this relocating behavior, wasps learn to associate food.with a certain site, and.can recall this association 1 h later. In this work, we evaluated.whether this wasp species is capable of retrieving an established.association after 24 h. For this purpose, we trained.free flying ind.vid.als to collect proteinaceous food.from an experimental plate （feed.r） located.in an experimental array. A total of 150 ind.vid.als were allowed.2, 4, or 8 visits. After the training phase, the array was re- moved.and.set up again 24 h later, but this time a second.baited.plate was placed.opposite to the first. After 24 h we record.d.the rate of wasps that returned.to the experimental area and.those which collected.food.from the previously learned.feed.ng station or the nonlearned.one. d.ring the testing phase, we observed.that a low rate of wasps trained.with 2 collecting visits returned.to the experimental area （22%）, whereas the rate of returning wasps trained.with 4 or 8 collecting visits was higher （51% and.41%, respectively）. Moreover, wasps trained.with 8 feed.ng visits collected.food.from the previously learned.feed.ng station at a higher rate than those that d.d.from the nonlearned.one. In contrast, wasps trained.2 or 4 times chose both feed.ng stations at a similar rate. Thus, significantly more wasps returned.to the previously learned.feed.ng station after 8 repeated.foraging flights but not after only 2 or 4 visits. This is the first report that d.monstrates the existence of long-term spatial memory in V. germanica wasps.

The influence of past experience on wasp choice related.to foraging behavior

Memory has been little stud.ed.in social wasps. Vespula germanica （Fab.）（Hymenoptera： Vespid.e） frequently revisits nond.pleted.food.sources, making several trips between the resource and.the nest. In this stud., we analyzed.this relocating behavior in ord.r to evaluate whether this species is capable of remembering an established.association after 1 h. To this end. we trained.wasps to feed.from a certain array. Then it was removed. setting it up again 1 h later, but this time 2 baited.feed.rs were put in place, one at the original feed.ng site and.the other opposite the first. We record.d.the proportion of returning foragers, and.their choice of feed.r, after either 1 or 4 feed.ng trials. After 1 h, 78% of wasps trained.with 4 feed.ng trials and.65% trained.with 1, returned.to the experimental area. Furthermore, d.ring the testing phase, wasps trained.with 4 feed.ng trials collected.food.from the previously learned.feed.r significantly more frequently than from the nonlearned.one （P 〈 0.05）. In contrast, wasps that had.been trained.only once chose both feed.rs equally. Thus, memory retrieval could.be observed.1 h after wasps had.collected.food.on 4 consecutive occasions, but not after only 1. To our knowled.e, this is the first stud. showing that V. germanica is capable of remembering an association 1 h after the last associative event, d.monstrating that 1 h d.es not impair memory retention if4 feed.ng experiences have occurred.
