Rainfall simulators(RS)have been used,above all,to evaluate hydrological processes related to soil water infiltration,surface runoff and soil *** allow repeatability of rain application with different precipitation intensities in field and/or laboratory conditions and should produce events with physical characteristics similar to natural *** this manuscript,we carried out a bibliometric and scientometric analysis of studies with simulated rainfall in Brazil to assess the temporal evolution of publications,the main topics addressed and the degree of technological development of the *** searched for the terms“rainfall simulator”oR“simulated rainfall”AND“Brazil”in the Scopus,Web of Science,SciELo and Google Scholar *** found 143 articles published in the last 37 years(1985-2022).our findings indicate that the main research areas covered in papers are soil erosion(57.34%),soil water infiltration(24.47%),nutrient losses(9.8%)and RS development and calibration/assessment(8.39%).In recent years,the number of published papers in international high-impact factor journals has *** of the papers(49.65%)refer to studies carried out by institutions located in the south and southeast regions of ***,there is a large gap of studies on simulated rainfall in other regions of Brazil,where important biomes such as the Cerrado,Amazon,Caatinga,and their transitions are *** study informs research priorities on soil erosion under simulated rainfall and provides a bibliographic database that can assist in more detailed future analyses.

Recently, tragic tailings dam collapses in Brazil have caused deaths and major destruction and the need to develop technologies capable of preventing damage to people and the environment. Brazilian tailings dams are in a situation of uncertainty due to new legislation that even requires decommissioning, an activity that involves many problems and where the risk of failure is the main one. An impact containment structure downstream of these dams can be effective and geotextile tubes, in a new approach, have emerged as an option with advantages in terms of execution, costs and safety. The technology is versatile and can bring many benefits such as the reuse of tailings or filling with low-energy or reused materials. In this research, geotextile tubes were tested as free containment barriers, experiencing impacts in reduced models. The safety factor for the stability of the structure was constructed using an equation which is the ratio between the self-weight of the barrier structure and its coefficient of static friction and the impact pressure, where the data showed an adequate correlation which suggests the viability of mitigating risks.

During the rainy season in Brazil, landslides can have catastrophic consequences, including loss of life, damage to urban infrastructure and significant economic impacts. Now, more than eight million people in Brazil live in disaster-prone areas. The objective of this article is to present a chronological review of the principal policies and programmes at the national, state, and municipal levels, with an emphasis on their key actions aimed at mitigating the impact of disasters related to natural hazards, particularly landslides. our analysis was based on official records of public policies from the national, state, and municipal governments. The results show that several initiatives were initially developed at the local and regional level. However, it was not until the late 1980s that a comprehensive organisation of civil protection at the national level emerged as a response measure. It is possible to highlight three phases(understanding, coexistence, and prevention) of institutional action focused on risk management in the face of disasters. Despite the growing knowledge of risk scenarios, disasters continue to occur in Brazil on an annual basis, revealing several obstacles to reducing their impact,particularly given the social and economic disparities between Brazilian regions and the applicability of public policies that must overcome the limitations of each municipality.

Rhombohedral phase Hf_(x)Zr_(1.x)o_(2)(HZo,x from 0 to 1)films are promising for achieving robust ferroelectric polarization without the need for an initial wake-up pre-cycling,as is normally the case for the more commonly studied orthorhombic ***,a large spontaneous polarization observed in rhombohedral films is not fully understood,and there are also large discrepancies between experimental and theoretical *** this work,in rhombohedral Zro_(2)thin films,we show that oxygen vacancies are not only a key factor for stabilizing the phase,but they are also a source of ferroelectric polarization in the *** is shown experimentally through the investigation of the structural properties,chemical composition and the ferroelectric properties of the films before and after an annealing at moderate temperature(400℃)in an oxygen environment to reduce the V_(o)concentration *** experimental work is supported by density functional theory(DFT)calculations which show that the rhombohedral phase is the most stable one in highly oxygen defective Zro_(2)*** DFT calculations also show that V_(o)contribute to the ferroelectric *** findings reveal the importance of V_(o)for stabilizing rhombohedral Zro_(2)thin films with superior ferroelectric properties.

Among the impacts of climate change,there is the intensification of phenomena such as the El Niño South-ern oscillation(ENSo)responsible for El Niño and La Niñ***,understanding their effects on the functional pro-cesses of forests is ***,this study evaluated the effects of ENSo on litter stock and water holding capac-ity(WHC)in a successional forest in eastern *** occurred in periods with the most rainfall in El Niño(2019)and least in La Niña(2021)*** permanent plots were used to sample *** effects were evident for WHC,higher during El Niñ***,this influence was not clear for litter,as only in the rainy season effects were *** was a positive correlation of WHC with precipitation and humidity,while litter stocks were negatively correlated with temperature and wind *** the subject of this study requires long-term assessments,preliminary results suggests that,depending on the intensity of ENSo,forest functional processes can be strongly impacted and *** conclusion reinforces warnings by the scientific community about the impacts of climate change on the maintenance of litter stocks,decomposition and,consequently,the biogeochemical cycle and essential ecosystem services for the maintenance of Amazonia *** need to develop long-term research to understand the effects of climatic change on litter stocks and water holding capacity is highlighted,especially in Amazonia.

It consists of a retrospective study with twenty-two individuals diagnosed with DRC: fourteen HD and eight CAPD, followed up in the dialysis center of Antonio Pedro University Hospital (HUAP) of Fluminense Federal University (UFF), between 2015 and 2017. Fifteen healthy control (HC) subjects were included, without diagnosed CKD. Patients with HIV positive, hepatitis A, B, and C, pregnant, cancer, smokers, alcoholics and those exposed to X-rays in the last 3 months, were excluded. objectives: As oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction may be linked to the higher prevalence of CVD in CKD patients, we measured the activities of the antioxidants enzymes: SoD and GPx and total No levels in the plasma and serum of end-stage CKD patients undergoing dialysis therapy, comparing with the HC group. Methods: Quantification of No levels was performed by fluorometric kit, while activities of SoD and GPx were determined using kinetic methods. Results: We found higher plasma SoD activity in HD (8.58 U/ml) and CAPD (10.14 U/ml), compared to C (3.73 U/ml) group, while GPx activity was decreased in HD (115.38 nmol/h/ml) and CAPD (122.76 nmol/h/ml) groups compared to HC group (275.83 nmol/h/ml). Total serum No concentration was decreased in HD (14.09 pmol/μl) and CAPD (10.26 pmol/μl), compared to non-CKD patients (49.65 pmol/μl). Conclusion: Decreased total serum No and GPx activities may lead to endothelial dysfunction and consequently a higher prevalence of CVD in CKD patients.

Fishes use environmental resources *** ontogenic movements among coastal habitats lead to diverse *** investigated the diets of seven snapper species(Lutjanus apodus,***,***,***,***,***,and ocyurus chrysurus)in three interconnected coastal environments in the western Caribbean:Río Huach channel,Chetumal/Corozal bay,and the adjacent Xcalak reef *** three encompass all habitats used by the seven species in the study *** diets were mostly composed of fish and crustaceans,but dominance of either group varied among the studied habitats;for example,fish were the main prey for *** from the reef lagoon zone,but second in the *** are piscivorous-invertivorous mesopredators;the species that relied the most on fishes were *** and ***,whereas *** preferred *** content results revealed a high degree of dietary overlap among *** findings suggested a tradeoff in relative weight between fish and crustaceans as the main food source of snappers at these connected areas,supporting the hypothesis of niche *** results can be used as a baseline to further our understanding of the ecology and differences in resource use by snapper species in an area undergoing important anthropogenic changes.

Background: Elevated anxiety levels are common in patients on mechanical ventilation (MV) and may challenge recovery. Research suggests music-based interventions may reduce anxiety during MV. However, studies investigating specific music therapy techniques, addressing psychological and physiological well-being in patients on MV, are scarce. Methods: This three-arm randomized clinical pilot study was conducted with MV patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Hospital San José in Bogotá, Colombia between March 7, 2022, and July 11, 2022. Patients were divided into three groups: intervention group 1 (IG1), music-assisted relaxation; intervention group 2 (IG2), patient-preferred therapeutic music listening; and control group (CG), standard care. The main outcome measure was the 6-item State-Anxiety Inventory. Secondary outcomes were: pain, measured with a visual analog scale; resilience, measured with the Brief Resilience Scale; agitation/sedation, measured with the Richmond Agitation–Sedation Scale; vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate; days of MV; extubation success; and days in the ICU. Additionally, three patients underwent electroencephalography during the interventions. Results: Data from 23 patients were analyzed in this study. The age range of the patients was 24–84 years, with a median age of 66 years (interquartile range: 57–74). of the 23 patients, 19 were female (82.6%). No statistically significant differences between the groups were observed for anxiety (P=0.330), pain (P=0.624), resilience (P=0.916), agitation/sedation (P=0.273), length of ICU stay (P=0.785), or vital signs. A statistically significant difference between the groups was found for days of MV (P=0.019). Electroencephalography measurements showed a trend toward delta and theta band power decrease for two patients and a power increase on both beta frequencies (slow and fast) in the frontal areas of the brain for one patient.
