Hazardous elements and amorphous nanoparticles in historical estuary coal mining area

In Brazil, intense coal exploitation activities have led to environmental deterioration, including soil mortification, water contamination, loss of ecosystem, and atmospheric contamination. In addition,considerable quantities of sulfur-rich residues are left behind in the mining area; these residues pose grave environmental issues as they undergo sulfide oxidation reactions. When sulfur oxides come in contact with water, extreme acid leachate is produced with great proportions of sulfate, and hazardous elements(HEs), which are identified as coal drainage(CMD). CMD is an environmental pollution challenge, particularly in countries with historic or active coal mines. To prevent CMD formation or its migration, the source must be controlled; however, this may not be feasible at many locations. In such scenarios, the mine water should be collected, treated, and discharged. In this study, data from 2005 to2010 was gathered on the geochemistry of 11 CMD discharges from ten different mines. There are several concerns and questions on the formation of nanominerals in mine acid drainage and on their reactions and interfaces. The detailed mineralogical and geochemical data presented in this paper were derived from previous studies on the coal mine areas in Brazil. oxyhydroxides, sulfates, and nanoparticles in these areas possibly go through structural transformations depending on their size and formation conditions. The geochemistry of Fe-precipitates(such as jarosite, goethite, and hematite) existent in the CMD-generating coal areas and those that could be considered as a potential source of hazardous elements(HEs)(e.g., Cr) were also studied because these precipitates are relatively stable in extremely low pH conditions. For fish farming,water is the limiting factor for good *** characteristics determine the health and the productivity of the fish and can indicate possible problems arising in the *** present study aimed to verify the nictemeral and vertical dynamics of limnological characteristics in a tilapia farming tank coated with geomembrane and with low water *** were carried out in a 24 hour on period of 18 days with an interval of three hours between the water *** order to determine the vertical dynamics,water samples were taken at three depths(5,35,and 70 cm)in the central region of the *** was found that the parameters analyzed showed changes in the *** oxygen and pH changed sharply in the 24-hour period(p$of 3.86 mg L$^{-1}$at 6:00 AM and 18.39 mg L$^{-1}$at 3:00 PM;and 8.0 at 06:00 AM and 9.65 mg L$^{-1}$at 6:00 PM,*** respect to the three layers of the tank,the difference between the values of dissolved oxygen in the epilimnion and the metalimnion(above 14 mg L$^{-1}$)is clear,while in the hypolimnion the concentration of this oxygen was 7.57 mg L$^{-1}$(p$osphorus had similar behavior,with more pronounced values in *** is a strong correlation between temperature and depth of the tank($r=-0.85,~p=5.86\times 10^{-9}$),depth and dissolved oxygen($r=-0.77,p=9.97\times 10^{-6}$),temperature and ammonia($r=-0.82,~p=6.33\times 10^{-8}$),depth and ammonia($r=0.79,~p=4.79\times 10^{-7}$),and nitrite and dissolved oxygen($r=-0.72,~p=2.15\times 10^{-4}$).The principal component analysis showed that there was a separation between the strata epilimnion,metalimnion,and *** response surface analysis showed the interaction between depth,temperature and the variables dissolved oxygen,ammonia,and *** result of this study helps to illustrate the dynamics of a tilapia tank covered with geomembrane and low water renewal ove

Poly(hydroxybutyrate)/poly(vinyl alcohol)(PHB/PVA)blends plasticized with glycerol were prepared by melt blending of PHB and glycerol plasticized *** PHB/PVA-glycerol compositions were 90:10,75:25 and 50:50 w/w,being the concentration of glycerol in the PVA mixture of 10 wt%.The blends were characterized by infrared spectroscopy,dynamic-mechanical thermal analysis,and scanning electron microscope of the fragile fractured *** results showed one single phase blend,indicating miscibility corroborated by the presence of a single glass transition *** blending method proved to be an efficient way to tune PHB properties keeping its biodegradable nature since both PVA and glycerol are fully biodegradable materials.

Study of the patency of different peritoneal drains used prophylactically in bariatric surgery

AIM:To compare the performance of different types of abdominal drains used in bariatric ***:A vertical banded roux-en-Y gastric bypass was performed in 33 morbidly obese *** of the peritoneal cavity was performed in each case using three different types of drain selected in a randomized manner:a latex tubular drain,a Watterman tubulolaminar drain,and a silicone channeled *** permeability,contamination of the drained fluid,ease of handling,and patient discomfort were evaluated postoperatively over a period of 7 ***:The patients with the silicone channeled drain had larger volumes of drainage compared to patients with tubular and tubulolaminar drains between the third and seventh postoperative *** addition,a lower incidence of discomfort and of contamination with bacteria of a more pathogenic profile was observed in the patients with the silicone channeled ***:The silicone channeled drain was more comfortable and had less chance of occlusion,which is important in the detection of delayed dehiscence.

A high-rate capability carbon-encapsulated polyaniline(PANI)composite is fabricated by a novel electrodeposition method of polyaniline on a carbon nanotube(CNT)forest,grown on carbon *** is followed by coating of an amorphous carbon layer via hydrothermal carbonization(HTC)of glucose,forming a three-layer *** demonstrate that a slow scan rate,voltage-restricted electrodeposition process can be used to produce a uniform PANI coating on individual CNTs throughout the *** CNT forest structure offers excellent electronic and structural connection for the PANI nanofiber network,while the coating of amorphous carbon reduces electrode resistance,promoting enhanced electrochemical performance and reinforced structural stability during charging and *** as-prepared CNT/PANI/HTC composite exhibited a high specific capacitance of 571 F g-1 at 1 A g-1,and 557 F g-1 at 100 A g-1,whilst demonstrating a record rate capability of 98%capacitance retention,when the current density is increased *** advanced rate performance indicates that a slow electrodeposition process produces an electrochemically stable three-layer composite with enhanced diffusion ***,the method developed in this work establishes further control on the electrochemical deposition of energy storage materials,for high-rate capability.

objective:To clone,express and purify a putative parasitic nematode specific protein of Setaria digitata(***),filarial nematode that infects livestock and cause significant economic losses in Far East and Asia to he used for structural and functional ***:To characterize uneharacterized gene of,***(SDUG),the herterologous expression of SDUG was carried out in the pET[cloned into pET45b(+)]expression system initially and co-expression of SDUC using chaperoiie plasmids pG-KJE8,pGro 7,pKJE7,pG-Tf2 and pTf16 containing chapcrone proteins of dnaK-dnaJ-grpE-groES-gro-E,groES-groEL,dnaK-dnaJ-grpE,groES-groEL-tig,and tig respectively,was carried out ***:Expression of SDUG was seen when Escherichia coli strain BI.21(DE3)is used,while concentrating protein largely into the insoluble *** co-expression of SDUG using chaperoiie plasmid mediated system indicated a significant increase of the protein in the soluble *** the chaperon plasniid sets,the highest amount of recombinant SDUP in the soluble fraction was seen when pGro7 was used in the presence of2 mg/mL L-arabinosc and 0.6M IPTG concentration in the culture medium and for 3 h of incubation at the temperature of 28℃.Recombinant SDUG was purified both from soluble and insoluble fractions using Ni affinity ***-PAGE and western blot analyses of these proteins revealed a single band having expected size of^24 ***:SDUG seems to be more aggregate-prone and hydrophobic in nature and such protein can make soluble by correct selecting the inducer concentrations and induction temperature and its duration.

Anodic oxidation of formic acid on PdAuIr /C-Sb2o5·Sno2 electrocatalysts prepared by borohydride reduction

PdAuIr/C-Sb2o5·Sno2electrocatalysts with Pd∶Au∶Ir molar ratios of 90∶5∶5,70∶20∶10 and 50∶45∶5 were prepared by borohydride reduction *** electrocatalysts were characterized by EDX,X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy and the catalytic activity toward formic acid electro-oxidation in acid medium investigated by cyclic voltammetry(CV),chroamperometry(CA)and tests on direct formic acid fuel cell(DFAFC)at 100℃.X-ray diffractograms of PdAuIr/C-Sb2o5·Sno2electrocatalysts showed the presence of Pd fcc phase,Pd-Au fcc alloys,carbon and ATo phases,while Ir phases were not *** micrographs and histograms indicated that the nanoparticles were not well dispersed on the support and some *** cyclic voltammetry and chroamperometry studies showed that PdAuIr/C-Sb2o5·Sno2(50∶45∶5)had superior performance toward formic acid electro-oxidation at 25℃compared to PdAuIr/C-Sb2o5·Sno2(70∶20∶10),PdAuIr/C-Sb2o5·Sno2(90∶5∶5)and Pd/C-Sb2o5·*** experiments in a single DFAFC also showed that all PdAuIr/C-Sb2o5·Sno2electrocatalysts exhibited higher performance for formic acid oxidation in comparison with Pd/C-Sb2o5·Sno2electrocatalysts,however PdAuIr/C-Sb2o5·Sno2(90∶5∶5)had superior *** results indicated that the addition of Au and Ir to Pd favor the electro-oxidation of formic acid,which could be attributed to the bifunctional mechanism(the presence of ATo,Au and Ir oxides species)associated to the electronic effect(Pd-Au fcc alloys).

Above-optimum Temperature-Induced Differential Photosynthetic and roots Morphometric Responses in Two Contrasting Rice Genotypes

Temperature thresholds during the rice （oryza sativa L.） cycle development have been reported to affect plant metabolism Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of the above-optimal temperature on photosynthetic and morphometric parameters in two contrasting irrigated rice genotypes （BRS Quer^ncia--sensitive and Nagina 22 （N22）~tolerant）. Plants of both genotypes were grown in rhizotrons and always maintained under two temperature conditions： out--under environmental temperature conditions, and In--rhizotrons inside a plastic structure, which increased the temperature about 3 ~C to 5 ~C above the external one. In the genotype N22, there was an increase （twofold higher） in Co2 assimilation in plants cultivated under elevated temperature （In）. In BRS Quer^ncia, the stomatal conductance （gs） and transpiration rate （E） decreased upon high temperature. The rise in the temperature also negatively impacted in the modulated fluorescence parameters in both genotypes. Increases in root dry weight （RDW） and shoot dry weight （SDW） were also observed in the genotype N22 when compared to BRS Quer^ncia upon temperature rise. In general, the N22 genotype showed greater response to the above-optimal temperature due to its intrinsic thermotolerance traits over BRS Quer^ncia. Thus, N22 appeared as a potential donor of heat tolerance genes aiming to obtain new cultivar to face current global wanning.

Conscience imperative of providing information and knowledge in hepatology:The Portuguese approach

The last 25 years have been a thrilling time for the Portuguese hepatologists. our national meetings have been providing the forum for the exchange of scientific ideas and the presentation of clinical research in clinical Hepatology, a growing world of knowledge in medical care. Bridging the gaps between technology and clinical daily practice, the latest development and the almost humble bedside care, has been a challenge for the increasing numbers of doctors devoted to the diagnostic and treatment of liver disease. We have been trying to be very persuasive among the Portuguese medical community in demonstrating that cultural vectors may influence the origin and pattern of liver disease among us. Viral hepatitis and alcoholic liver disease are paradigms of this assumption. Chronic liver disease is responsible for 3% of the deaths in Portugal, which accounts for the top ten causes of death in our country. The recognition by public health authorities of this fact along with the national net of hepatology outpatient consultation in public hospitals, has brought liver diseases under the lights of doctors concerns and an increased public awareness of its dimension.
