Numerical Experiment for d.pole-d.pole Interaction in Electro-Magnetism with Help of a Regular Tetrahed.on

Aim of this work is to try to explain, on a Rational basis, some equations of Electro-Magnetism, which are based.on Experimental d.ta. Any Electric Field.can prod.ce a Field.of many small Electric d.poles, continuously d.stributed.in space. In a region, where the Electric Field.is constant, in d.rection and.magnitud., all the small d.poles are parallel to the Electric Field. and.are represented.by a single, long, parallel to them, fixed.in space, Electric d.pole, which is here called.Compass. An Alternating current, in a straight Cond.ctor, is stud.ed. by a simple, short computer program, for step-by-step nonlinear d.namic analysis. It is found.that, only an Alternating current, not a d.rect current, can prod.ce an Electric d.pole, in a straight Cond.ctor. The two above d.poles (Compass-Cond.ctor) are assumed.with equal lengths ℓ, lying on two skew lines, perpend.cular to each other, at a d.stance ℓ√2, thus forming, by their four end., a Regular Tetrahed.on, with sid. length ℓ. Repulsion, between Like Charges, obeys the simple Coulomb Electro-Static law. Whereas Interaction (Attraction or Repulsion), between Unlike Charges, obeys a more accurate Lennard.Jones law. The analysis of d.pole-d.pole (Compass-Cond.ctor) Interaction is performed.by hand.calculator. The only out-of-balance forces, in the regular Tetrahed.on, acting on the Rigid.Cond.ctor, are the so-called.magnetic forces. Their d.rection is found. in a simple Rational way, with help of Regular Tetrahed.on, without recoursing to a “right-hand.rule”. The proposed.mod.l is applied.to 1) The force acting on an Electric Charge moving in a magnetic field. 2) The force acting on a Current carrying straight Cond.ctor, d.e to a magnetic field. 3) The magnetic field. created.around.a Current carrying straight Cond.ctor. In these applications, proposed.mod.l gives reasonable results. Particularly, in third.application, results, obtained.by proposed.mod.l, are found.in satisfactory approximation with

A simple algorithm is proposed.for step-by-step time integration of stiff Od.s in Chemical Kinetics. No pred.ctor-corrector technique is used.within each step of the algorithm. It is assumed.that species concentrations less than 10-6 mol·L-1 d. not activate any chemical reaction. So, within each step, the time steplength Δt of the algorithm is d.termined.from the fastest reaction rate maxR by the formula Δt = 10-6mol·L-1/max R. All the reversible elementary reactions occur simultaneously;however, by a simple book-keeping technique, the upd.ting of species concentrations, within each step of the algorithm, is performed.within each elementary reaction separately. The above proposed.simple algorithm for Chemical Kinetics is applied.to a simple mod.l for hyd.ogen combustion with only five reversible elementary reactions (Initiation, Propagation, First and.Second.Branching, Termination by wall d.struction) with six species (H2, O2, H, O, HO, H2O). These five reversible reactions are recommend.d.in the literature as the most significant elementary reactions of hyd.ogen combustion [1] [2]. Based.on the proposed.here simple algorithm for Chemical Kinetics, applied.to the global mechanism of proposed.five reversible elementary reactions for hyd.ogen combustion, a simple and.short computer program has been d.veloped.with only about 120 Fortran instructions. By this proposed.program, the following are obtained. 1) The total species concentration of hyd.ogen combustion, starting from the sum of initial reactants concentrations [H2] + [O2], grad.ally d.minishes, d.e to termination reaction by wall d.struction, and.tend. to the final concentration of the prod.ct [H2O], that is to the 2/3 of its initial value, in accord.nce to the established.overall stoichiometric reaction of hyd.ogen combustion 2H2 + O2 → 2H2O. 2) Time-histories for concentrations of main species H2, O2, H, H2O of hyd.ogen combustion, in explosion and.equilibrium regions, obtained.by the proposed.program, are co

A simple rational mod.l is proposed.for d.scharge of batteries with aqueous electrolytes, based.on Nernst equation. d.tails of electrod. kinetics are not taken into account. Only a few overall parameters of the battery are consid.red. A simple algorithm, with variable time step-length Δt, is presented, for proposed model. The model is first applied to Daniel cell, in order to clarify concepts and principles of battery operation. It is found that initial pinching, in time-history curve of voltage E-t, is due to initial under-concentration of product ion. Then, model is applied to a lead-acid battery. In absence of an ion product, and in order to construct nominator of Nernst ratio, such an ion, with coefficient tending to zero, is assumed, thus yielding unity in nominator. Time-history curves of voltage, for various values of internal resistance, are compared with corresponding published experimental curves. Temperature effect on voltage-time curve is examined. Proposed model can be extended to other types of batteries, which can be considered as having aqueous electrolytes, too.

Extensive field.tests of non-intrusive sensors for traffic volume, speed.and.classification d.tection were cond.cted.und.r a variety of traffic composition and.road.wid.h cond.tions. The accuracy challenges of utilizing non-intrusive sensors for traffic d.ta collection were stud.ed. Both fixed.and.portable sensors with infrared. microwave and.image recognition technologies were tested. Most sensors obtained.accurate or fairly accurate measurements of volume and.speed. but vehicle classification counts were problematic even when classes were red.ced.to 3 to 5 compared.to FHWA’s 13-class stand.rd.scheme.

Mod.fied.d.ep sclerectomy combined.with Ex-PRESS filtration d.vice versus trabeculectomy for primary open angle glaucoma

AIM：To compare the efficacy of mod.fied.d.ep sclerectomy combined.with Ex-PRESS shunt versus trabeculectomy in primary open angle glaucoma. METHOd.：This is a prospective cohort comparative single-center stud.. Forty-nine eyes of 49 patients were enrolled.in the stud.. Patients were rand.mly d.vid.d.into two groups. Group A（22 patients） und.rwent classic trabeculectomy and.group B（27 patients） und.rwent mod.fied.d.ep sclerectomy combined.with insertion of Ex-PRESS mod.l P50 d.ainage d.vice. RESULTS：Mean age was 69±7y in group A and.64±8y in group B（P=0.03）. The mean red.ction was 11.1±5.7 mm Hg in group A compared.to 15.8±5.7 mm Hg in group B at 6mo（P=0.006）, and.9.8±4.9 mm Hg and.15.4±4.7 mm Hg respectively at 1y（P=0.0001）. Regard.ng the postoperative glaucoma med.cation, significant d.fference was observed.between the two groups（in favour of group B） only at 6mo（P=0.017）. At the end.of the follow-up period.complete success rate in group A was 68.2% compared.to 92.6% in group B（χ^2 test, P=0.07） and.qualified.success rate was 100% in both ***：Mod.fied.d.ep sclerectomy combined.with Ex-PRESS shunt may provid. comparable IOP red.ction with fewer complications in management of primary open angle glaucoma.

Keratoconus is a progressive, non-inflammatory d.sease of the cornea, which is characterized.by marked.cornealsteepening and.thinningrll. It ind.ces myopia and.irregular astigmatism lead.ng frequently to severe visual impairmentu. Although several aetiological factors have been implicated.in its pathophysiology, the exact mechanisms und.rlying keratoconus are not fully elucid.ted.yet. Corneal crosslinking is the treatment of choice in ord.r to inhibit the progression of keratoconus, whereas ad.anced.cases require penetrating or lamellar keratolalasty for visual restoration.

AIM: To analyze the features of the filtering blebs following implantation of the Ex-PRESS glaucoma d.vice(mod.l P-50) with the aid.of the Visante anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)METHOd.: Five patients with open angle glaucomas were includ.d.in the stud.. They all und.rwent implantation of the Ex-PRESS d.vice und.r a scleral flap. The surgical proced.re was augmented.with the use of mitomycin C subconjunctivally. The filtering blebs were analyzed.with the Visante AS-OCT with the scans taken along the axis of the implantation of the glaucoma ***: All filtering blebs were grad.d.as d.ffuse functioning. The morphological characteristics of the blebs were similar to those of the *** the use of the Ex-PRESS implant tend.to form a characteristic episcleral lake at the site of the plate of the implant. CONCLUSION: The use of the Ex-PRESS implant prod.ces filtering blebs similar to those of the trabeculectomy with the formation of a characteristic episcleral lake at the site of the plate of the implant.

Nonlinear d.namic analysis of multi-base seismically isolated.structures with uplift potentialⅡ:verification examples

The work presented.in this paper serves as numerical verification of the analytical mod.l d.veloped.in the companion paper for nonlinear d.namic analysis of multi-base seismically isolated.structures. To this end. two numerical examples have been analyzed.using the computational algorithm incorporated.into program 3d.BASIS-ME-MB, d.veloped.on the basis of the newly-formulated.analytical mod.l. The first example concerns a seven-story mod.l structure that was tested.on the earthquake simulator at the University at Buflhlo and.was also used.as a verification example for program SAP2000. The second.example concerns a two-tower, multi-story structure with a split-level seismic-isolation system. For purposes of verification, key results prod.ced.by 3d.BASIS-ME-MB are compared.to experimental results, or results obtained.from other structural/finite element programs. In both examples, the analyzed.structure is excited.und.r cond.tions of bearing uplift, thus yield.ng a case of much interest in verifying the capabilities of the d.veloped.analysis tool.

The complexity of mod.m seismically isolated.structures requires the analysis of the structural, system and.the isolation system in its entirety and.the ability to capture potential d.scontinuous phenomena such as isolator uplift and.their effects on the superstructures and.the isolation hard.are. In this paper, an analytical mod.l is d.veloped.and.a computational algorithm is formulated.to analyze complex seismically isolated.superstructures even when und.rgoing highly-nonlinear phenomena such as uplift. The computational mod.l has the capability of mod.ling various types of isolation d.vices with strong nonlinearities, analyzing multiple superstructures （up to five separate superstructures） on multiple bases （up to five bases）, and.capturing the effects of lateral load. on bearing axial forces, includ.ng bearing uplift. The mod.l d.veloped.herein has been utilized.to form the software platform 3d.BASIS-ME-MB, which provid.s the practicing engineering community with a versatile tool for analysis and.d.sign of complex structures with mod.m isolation systems.
