Digital Social and Emotional Literacy Intervention for Vulnerable Children in Brazil:Participants’Experiences

Social emotional literacy(SEL)interventions are widely implemented through schools,with growing evidence for a range of positive child ***,such interventions are delivered on online *** date,there is limited evidence about digital SEL interventions in low-and middle-income countries(LMIC).The aim of this study was to explore the perceptions and experiences of children,parents and facilitator of the potential value of addressing SEL via tailored digital *** intervention was designed to help children,in Brazil,to cope during the first COVID-19 pandemic *** intervention was delivered via a digital platform to groups of three children for 45 min per week for *** children,nine parents and nine facilitators were interviewed following the completion of the *** data was analysed through a codebook thematic approach,which led to three themes:empowerment,participatory aspects of the intervention and digital ***,children’s SEL development was reported to be supported during the COVID-19 pandemic,by the application of new skills outside the *** reported a number of empowering factors such as being heard and belonging.A range of useful participatory tools were identified including storytelling,games,drawings and *** SEL interventions involving both face-to-face and web-based facilitation could be developed within a tiered model of universal mental health promotion and targeted *** to online platforms would increase reach to large numbers of children in LMIC,especially in contexts of disadvantage.

Mental Health and Quality of Life of Disable Palestinian Children in the Gaza Strip

The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of mental health problems and quality of life among Palestinian disable children. The sample consisted of 391 disable Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip which was selected randomly from the data base of two NGOs working with such group of children. The age of children ranged from 6 - 18 years with mean age (11.73). Instruments: The children and adolescents demographic data were collected by questionnaire include sex, age, class, and place of residence, Gaza Child Health Study Scales (parents and children forms), and The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory generic core (version 4.0) scale. The results showed that children reported mean conduct disorder was 1.33;oppositional disorder was 5;mean overanxious was 6.75;separation anxiety mean was 6.36;and depression was 7.57. There were statistically significant differences toward boys in depression. According to parents, mean conduct disorder mean was 1.94;mean oppositional disorder was 6.09;mean overanxious was 7.47;separation anxiety mean was 6.48;and mean depression was 9.6. The study showed that mean depression in boys was 10.4 compared to 8.9 in girls. There were statistically significant differences toward boys in depression. Parents of children with physical disabilities reported more overanxious problems in their children compared to other parents with other types of disabilities (vision, mental, and multiple). Also, parents of children with physical disability had more separation anxiety than other groups (mental and multiple disabilities). Quality of life of children was scored by children themselves;mean emotional functioning was 8.24;mean social functioning was 6.65;school functioning mean was 9.17;and cognitive functioning was 8.57. Comorbidity of post traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit with hyperactivity, conduct, and oppositional defiant disorder in Palestinian children affected by war on Gaza

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of war on children and comorbidity of post traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit with hyperactivity, conduct, and oppositional defiant disorder in Palestinian children. Methods: The study was conducted in the entire Gaza Strip 6 months after the end of the war on Gaza that lasted for 23 days. The study sample included 410 children aged 6 to 17 years. Children completed measures of experience of traumatic events (Gaza Traumatic Checklist-War on Gaza), post traumatic stress disorder index, attention deficit with hyperactivity scale for parents and self, conduct disorder scale, and oppositional defiant disorder. Results: Palestinians children investigated 6 months after the war on Gaza still reported traumatic experiences: 94.6% heard the sonic sounds of the jet fighters, 91.7% heard shelling of the area by artillery, 92% watched mutilated bodies on television, 80% were deprived from water or electricity during the war, 50.7% said they left home for safer place. Using Diagnostic Manual of Mental Disorders-IV (DSM-IV) criteria for post traumatic stress disorder, 25.1% of children reported no psychological reactions, 25.9% of children reported one criteria, 39.3% of children reported partial post traumatic stress disorder and 9.8% of children reported full criteria for post traumatic stress disorder. According to the parents’ report, the results showed 31.3% of children met the criteria for inattentive type, 36.3% of children were impulsive and 29% met criteria for combined type. According to the children’s report, the results showed 28.8% of children met the criteria for inattentive type, 37.3% of children were impulsive and 28.3% met criteria for combined type. Using DSM-IV diagnostic criteria of conduct disorder and oppositional defiant disorder, the study showed that 38.1% of parents reported conduct disorder in their children and 46.3% reported oppositional defiant disorder. Rainfall erosivity in Italy:a national scale spatio-temporal assessment

Soil erosion by water is a serious threat for the Mediterranean *** impacts and consequent runoff generation are the main driving forces of this geomorphic process of soil *** potential ability for rainfall to cause soil loss is expressed as rainfall erosivity,a key parameter required by most soil loss prediction *** Italy,rainfall erosivity measurements are limited to few locations,preventing researchers from effectively assessing the geography and magnitude of soil loss across the *** objectives of this study were to investigate the spatio-temporal distribution of rainfall erosivity in Italy and to develop a national-scale grid-based map of rainfall ***,annual rainfall erosivity values were measured and subsequently interpolated using a geostatistical *** series of pluviographic records(10-years)with high temporal resolution(mostly 30-min)for 386 meteorological stations were ***-kriging was used to interpolate rainfall erosivity values of the meteorological stations to an Italian rainfall erosivity map(500-m).A set of 23 environmental covariates was tested,of which seven covariates were selected based on a stepwise approach(mostly significant at the 0.01 level).The interpolation method showed a good performance for both the cross-validation data set(R^(2)_(cv)=0.777)and the fitting data set(R^(2)=0.779).

Microstructural evolution of a heat-treated H23 tool steel

The microstructure and the stability of carbides after heat treatments in an H23 tool steel were investigated. The heat treatments consisted of austenization at two different austenizing temperatures （1100℃ and 1250℃）, followed by water quenching and double-aging at 650℃, 750℃, and 800℃with air cooling between the first and second aging treatments. Martensite did not form in the as-quenched micro- structures, which consisted of a ferrite matrix, M6C, M7C3, and MC carbides. The double-aged microstructures consisted of a ferrite matrix and MC, M6C, M7C3, and M23C6 carbides. Secondary hardening as a consequence of secondary precipitation of fine M2C carbides did not occur. There was disagreement between the experimental microstructure and the results of thermodynamic calculations. The highest double-aged hardness of the H23 tool steel was 448 HV after austenization at 1250℃ and double-aging at 650℃, which suggested that this tool steel should be used at temperatures below 650℃.

Modelling monthly soil losses and sediment yields in Cyprus

The aim of this study was to map soil erosion on the Mediterranean island of *** G2 model,an empirical model for month-time step erosion assessments,was *** losses in Cyprus were mapped at a 100 m cell size,while sediment yields at a sub-basin scale of 0.62 km^(2) mean *** results indicated a mean annual erosion rate of 11.75 t ha^(−1)y−^(1),with October and November being the most erosive *** 34%of the island’s surface was found to exceed non-sustainable erosion rates(>10 t ha^(−1)y−^(1)),with sclerophyllous vegetation,coniferous forests,and non-irrigated arable land being the most extensive non-sustainable erosive land *** mean sediment delivery ratio(SDR)was found to be 0.26,while the mean annual specific sediment yield(SSY)value for Cyprus was found to be 3.32 t ha^(−1)y−^(1).The annual sediment yield of the entire island was found to be 2.746 Mt y−*** study was the first to provide complete and detailed erosion figures for Cyprus at a country *** geodatabase and all information records of the study are available at the European Soil Data Centre(ESDAC)of the Joint Research Centre(JRC).

A field parcel-oriented approach to evaluate the crop cover-management factor and time-distributed erosion risk in Europe

The crop cover-management(C-)factor in arable landscapes describes the soil erosion susceptibility associated with seasonally cultivated *** informatic and computational limitations have led many modelling studies to prescribe C-factor values and assume spatial and temporal ***,the multiple influencing factors ranging from parcel-scale crop cultivation and management to regional-scale rainfall regimes motivates new methods to capture this variation when identifying at-risk ***,we define a multi-component method to derive the C-factor by associating time series of canopy and residue surface cover from Sentinel-2 and climate-specific rainfall erosivity with Integrated Administration and Control System(IACS)field parcel data from European Union member states.A scalable and standardised method is emphasised to increase the future interoperability and inter-comparability of soil erosion modelling studies deploying the ***,field parcel simu-lation units with associated crop declarations provide a new reference scale to link predictions of soil erosion risk with specific management decisions and declarations by *** implementing the method on a homogenised subsample of 8600 field parcels covering available IACS regions,several key findings are outlined:1)time series information provides new opportunities to predict the time-criticality of erosion in specific crop cultivations,2)the varying(a-)synchronicity between seasonal crop canopy cover and heavy rainstorms means that spatial variability is inherent within the C-factor across Europe,and 3)the addition of agricultural management practices(*** practice de-scriptions)to open-access IACS repositories can facilitate more comprehensive evaluations of the C-factor and soil erosion risk.

Using the USLE: Chances, challenges and limitations of soil erosion modelling

To give soils and soil degradation,which are among the most crucial threats to ecosystem stability,social and political visibility,small and large scale modelling and mapping of soil erosion is *** most widely used approaches during an 80year history of erosion modelling are Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE)-type based algorithms which have been applied in 109 *** soil erosion by water (excluding gully erosion and land sliding),we start this review with a statistical evaluation of nearly 2,000 publications).We discuss model developments which use USLE-type equations as basis or side modules,but we also address recent development of the single USLE parameters (R,K,LS,C,P).Importance,aim and limitations of model validation as well as a comparison of USLE-type models with other erosion assessment tools are *** comparisons demonstrate that the application of process-based physical models (e.g.,WEPP or PESERA) does not necessarily result in lower uncertainties compared to more simple structured empirical models such as USLE-type *** identified four key areas for future research:(i) overcoming the principally different nature of modelled (gross) versus measured (net) erosion rates,in coupling on-site erosion risk to runoff patterns,and depositional regime,(ii) using the recent increase in spatial resolution of remote sensing data to develop process based models for large scale applications,(iii) strengthen and extend measurement and monitoring programs to build up validation data sets,and (iv) rigorous uncertainty assessment and the application of objective evaluation criteria to soil erosion modelling.

Size effects in two-dimensional layered materials modeled by couple stress elasticity

In the present study,the effect of material microstructure on the mechanical response of a two-dimensional elastic layer perfectly bonded to a substrate is examined under surface *** the current model,the substrate is treated as an elastic half plane as opposed to a rigid base,and this enables its applications in practical cases when the modulus of the layer(e.g.,the coating material)and substrate(e.g.,the coated surface)are *** material microstructure is modeled using the generalized continuum theory of couple stress *** boundary value problems are formulated in terms of the displacement field and solved in an analytical manner via the Fourier transform and stiffness matrix *** results demonstrate the capability of the present continuum theory to efficiently model the size-dependency of the response of the material when the external and internal length scales are ***,the results indicated that the material mismatch and substrate stiffness play a crucial role in the predicted elastic ***,the study also addresses significant discrepancy of the response for the case of a layer resting on a rigid substrate.
