Bodies, Persons, and Respect for Humanity： A Kantian Look at the Permissibility of Organ Commerce and Donation

Can choosing to sale one＇s kidney be morally permissible？＂No＂, Kant would answer. Humanity, whether in one＇s own person or that of any other, must never be treated merely as a means, but always at the same time as an end, is Kant＇s instruction （Groundwork 4：429）. He thought that organ sale violates this imperative. Lectures on Ethics （27：346） shows that ＂... a man is not entitled to sell his limbs for money If a man does that, he turns himself into a thing, and then anyone may treat him as they please, because he has thrown his person away....＂ This paper explains Kant＇s reasons against commerce in organs, drawing on his views on prostitution, and the moral impermissibility of sexual use within this context, a case which he himself compares to the selling of one＇s body part（s）. Can choosing to donate one＇s kidney be morally permissible？ If we take Kant＇s views at face value, it would follow that organ donation is on a par with morality only if it takes place in a context where people have gained rights over each other＇s persons （for example, in a marital context）. In this context, however, a person has a right to her partner＇s kidney should she happen to need it, which can open the path to bodily violation. Moreover, this view severely restricts the permissibility of organ donation. In this paper, I argue that a closer examination of Kant＇s views on what is involved in the idea of respecting humanity could reveal that organ donation does not violate the categorical imperative. In fact, it could be said to follow from such an imperative that we actually have a duty to organ donation.

The adoption of Blockchain has caused the organization to rethink how it operates and adds value to its current processes. Some scholars refer to Blockchain as the Black Swan of the 21st century, which will have a greater impact than the introduction of the Internet. Currently, there is little discussion about Blockchain technology and the value model approach and how organizations can close the gap between strategy and operational planning to successfully implement this technology in organizations. This paper explores the relationship and implications of Blockchain technology in relation to the value chain model in education. This paper proposes a value modeling approach for implementing Blockchain in the education sector and demonstrates how a solution works in practice. The novelty of the research will be from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The study will appraise enhancement that can be made within the existing literature on Blockchain and the value chain model, and how the alignment of the two concepts can be used to improve the use of the current value chain model in the education sector.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors have made a great novelty in the treatment of various cancer types, showing favourable outcomes and good tolerance by cancer patients. Immune checkpoint inhibitors enhance and promote anti-tumor immunity, which can result in a wide range of adverse events, termed as immune-related adverse events, which are characterized by excessive immunity response. Although immune related adverse events are not considered to be originated from infectious causes, cases of cancer patients developing active tuberculosis during treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors have been reported. Aim: The aim of the current case report is to highlight the importance of including opportunistic infections, such as tuberculosis, in the differential diagnosis of complications in the treatment of cancer patients receiving immunotherapy. Case presentation: This case report describes a 62-year-old Caucasian male patient who developed active pulmonary tuberculosis after treatment with Durvalumab, an anti-programmed death cell ligand-1 antibody, administered as therapy for non small cell lung cancer. The diagnosis was challenging because of the fact that the clinical presentation and the radiographic imaging were compatible with disease progression. Conclusion: Screening for active or latent tuberculosis should be part of everyday practice before the initial administration of immunotherapy in oncologic patients.

AIM: To evaluate the response of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) using a simplified protocol of parametric contrast-enhanced ultrasound (pCEUS). METHODS: Eighteen patients with HCC (18 target tumors, diameter: 2.8-12 cm) were evaluated before, and 20 d after TACE. The distribution and morphology of TACE-induced necrosis in these tumors precluded accurate evaluation by visual assessment or by simple measurements. For pCEUS, a 4.8 mL bolus of SonoVue (Bracco, Milan, Italy) was intravenously administered and analysis of tumor perfusion during the initial phase of enhancement (0-30 s post injection) was performed with dedicated software (Qontrast, Bracco, Milan, Italy). Time-intensity curves were plotted and three parameters were calculated: peak intensity (PI, in percentage %), time to peak (TTP in seconds, s) and area under the curve during wash-in (AUC-WI, in arbitrary units, a.u). Magnetic resonance imaging was the standard imaging modality for post-treatment evaluation. Changes in tumor size were recorded and response was assessed according to response evaluation criteria in solid tumors criteria. RESULTS: A statistically significant decrease in PI and AUC-WI was observed in the treated tumors post TACE; PIpre: 21.5% ± 8.7% (mean ± SD), PIpost: 12.7% ± 6.7%, P < 0.001, AUC-WI pre: 17493 ± 9563 a.u, AUC-WI post: 9585 ± 5494 a.u, P < 0.001. A slight increase in TTP was noted post TACE, but this was not statistically significant; TTP pre: 13.1 ± 4.3 s, TTP post: 13.6 ± 4.2 s , P = 0.058). The changes in the aforementioned parameters were not accompanied by significant tumor shrinkage. CONCLUSION: pCEUS, even when limited to the study of the arterial phase of tumoral enhancement, can detect and quantify early perfusional changes in HCC post TACE.

本文解释了其它变量 u,v,w…对函数 Y=f(x)的建立所产生的影响 ,即相关性的概念。这些变量是在机加工过程中 ,由于原材料或加工工艺自身变化而导致的 ,是不可避免的。在对相关性进行解释时 ,值得关注的问题是 :机加工过程输出的不仅仅是个体零件 ,还有一系列与工件以及加工工艺有关的、可以测量的本征的或非本征的变量。为达到设计物理性能以及至少两个与该物理性能相关的、可以测定的性能 ,应设计一种测量材料物理性能的工艺模型。模型进一步假设 :一种测量方法是对材料设计性能进行测定的常规方法 ,另一种是基于现代化技术发展起来的检测方法。这种检测方法 (NDT)对材料是无损的 ,且检测速度更快。文章谈及了以全新的无损检测方法取代常规测定方法时所遇到的问题 ;应用这种 NDT测量方法以建立 NDT指标与设计物理性能或是与常规的测量方法之间的相关性 ;文章还从概念和工作模式两方面对工业生产中的实例进行了分析 ;

Studies on the evaluation by therapists of parental behavior towards their children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder(ASD)and towards the therapists of their children are *** are necessary,however,for enabling parents to become *** present study’s purpose was the evaluation by therapists of the behavior of parents towards their children,of their relationship to therapists,and therapy *** sample consisted of 178 parents of 89 children(72 boys)with ASD,who underwent intensive early intervention at a day centre for developmental *** professional team completed a questionnaire,separately for the mother and father,evaluating the parental attitude towards their children and towards the *** behavior of parents was less satisfactory than *** fathers had difficulties in understanding their child’s problems,and had unrealistic expectations;mothers’behavior towards their children and therapists was better than the fathers’.Mothers had difficulty mostly in the management of the child’s behavior,and did not do well with *** might be difficult for every parent to become *** the child’s difficulties by the mother,adequate handling of feeding and homework,were statistically significant in the good outcome of therapy.
