Introduction: Activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) is one of the most used coagulation tests in preoperative evaluation. Incidental detection of a prolonged aPTT is a problem in primary care, in which the general pediatrician should be able to attend its initial management. Objective: To describe final diagnosis of patients with prolonged aPTT in preoperative study. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive study of patients referred from otorhinolaryngology. Results: Totally, 508 adenoidectomies and/or tonsillectomies were performed in our center, 38 of which referred patients (7.5%) with prolonged aPTT, and 30 of which met inclusion criteria. The median age was 4 years. 56.6% of patients were males. 76.6% of patients normalized aPTT at the second follow-up. Among these, 73.9% showed a normal study, 4.3% ha2d lupus anticoagulant and in 21.7% Von Willebrand disease was detected. Among patients that persisted with prolonged aPTT, 42.8% had coagulant factors deficiency, 28.5% had lupus anticoagulant and in 28.5% of patients a diagnosis could not be achieved with the tests used in the present study. Multivariate analysis did not show correlation between final diagnosis and the variables measured. Conclusion: The presence of a prolonged aPTT in children under preoperative study is due to a pre-analytic factor in the majority of cases or to the presence of lupus anticoagulant, normalizing values on follow-up. We suggest that a new aPTT be performed on these patients, and only those that persist altered or present a symptoms and family history of coagulation disorders be referred to hematology.

Herbicide 2,4-D is one of the most widely used in the *** this way,its presence on different bodies of water has been *** this paper the efficiency of horizontal-subsurface flow constructedwetlands for 2,4-D removal in aqueous solutions was *** were constructed using fiberglass,and grown with Phragmites *** influent consisted of synthetic wastewater under different 2,4-D and glucose initial *** indicated that,under the evaluated experimental conditions,2,4-D extent of removal was between 71.0 and 99.0%.In general,it can be noted that an increase in the herbicide concentration reduces the removal efficiency,probably due to a toxic effect on the biological *** the other hand,the influent dissolved organic carbon(DOC)initial concentration had a significant effect on the removal of both,the herbicide and the organic matter content in the system,demonstrating that this parameter has a significant effect on this kind of biological methods for water ***,it can be concluded that constructed wetlands are a viable alternative for the treatment of wastewater contaminated with the herbicide 2,4-D.

Azithromycin(AzT)is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the group of macrolides that acts against several Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria,which has promoted its use in the treatment of different respiratory and sexually transmitted ***,its presence in environmental matrices and in the effluents of conventional wastewater treatment plants has been evidenced in recent years,which reflects the need to develop new treatment alternatives that allow its total removal and minimize the eventual adverse effects,selection of resistant bacterial strains,associated with its presence in water *** sunlight radiation and H2O2 were used to remove AzT from water assessing the effects of operational parameters like the solution initial pH and the peroxide *** indicate that hydroxyl free radical is the main responsible for pollutant removal but acidic solution conditions and larger H2O2 doses negatively affect OHgeneration under the evaluated experimental *** removal was almost complete after 120 min of *** addition,reduction of the organic carbon content in the treated samples was^50.0%;and a significant increase of nitrates concentration in solution was evidenced.

Tomato is a fruit of great nutritional interest in the basic human diet. The increasing use of agrochemicals to maintain production requires new alternatives to reduce environmental impact. Arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) are beneficial microorganisms that favor the growth of plants improving their nutrition and development, protecting the plant from biotic and abiotic stresses and favoring the production of bioactive compounds that increase their nutritional value. The use of biochar as soil conditioner is also considered an environmentally friendly resource. A greenhouse experiment was carried out to observe the effect of the use of biochar and AM inoculation on the quality of fruits, yield and polyphenols production of Cherry tomato, Solanum lycopersicum var. Cerasiforme. A mixture of rice husk biochar with sterile sand and two inoculums of Glomeromycota native fungi: from a wetland (GWI) and a fallow field (GFI) were used. Control treatments consisted of inoculation with both GWI and GFI in sterile sand. All treatments were irrigated with 50% La Molina? hydroponic solution. After 12 weeks plants were harvested to quantify weight, number and diameters of the fruits, and yield, total polyphenols in the fruit pulp were quantified. In the presence of biochar and the two inoculums, GFI and GWI, fruit production was favored throughout the experiment. The height of the plants was significantly greater in the presence of biochar. Plants grown in biochar and inoculated with GFI had a yield of 8.2 MT/Ha, increasing in 50% this value respect to control with biochar (5.33 MT/Ha). This treatment doubled the number of fruits (59.5) with respect to the control (32.5). Root colonization by GFI was not affected by the presence of biochar. It is concluded that the combined use of rice husk biochar and Glomeromycota fungal inoculation is recommended for increasing of Cherry tomato yield and improving fruit quality through the production of bioactive compounds.

Radioactive contamination at planet scale started in 1945 when the first nuclear taste was performed in Alamo Gordo, New Mexico, followed by two war actions in Japan, a second test in Bikini, and more than 2000 tests were performed all over the world by different countries since then on. In this context, 10 main accidents in power and research nuclear reactors seem to be negligible in the general radioactive contamination at planet scale, which can be measured by comparing radioactivity of fission product 137Cs with that of natural 40K, both detected from marine sediments taken up at different places and depth. This paper shows 9 results obtained from Gulf of Mexico samples and one from Pacific North ocean, confirming the fact that this simple method works well enough to keep watching the process of radioactive contamination on earth, whatever may be the cause, to prove if it remains constant for a time, by equilibrium between contamination and decaying of 137Cs, it is decreasing at same rate than 137Cs radioactive decaying, or by the contrary, it is growing up and approaching at some extent the natural radioactivity from 40K.

When Periodic Chart of elements is consulted to find natural radioisotopes, one firstly finds tritium, followed by 10Be, 14C, 50V and many others. Before Bi, 12 cosmogenic radioisotopes are listed. They are those continuously produced by nuclear reactions among light elements present in earthly atmosphere and radiations coming from the outside space. Eighteen additional primordial radioisotopes are listed. They were created at the same time that the non-radioactive isotopes composing the 92 natural elements in the periodic table. From Bi on, every isotope is radioactive, up to U. Then follow the artificial elements produced by laboratory nuclear reactions from Np to element with atomic number 118. In this way, from 118 known elements, 64 are radioactive, which amount 55% of all those units forming the chemical compounds. Therefore, the complete understanding of radioactivity should be a suitable tool to advance our knowledge of Universe, and consequent applications to get better living conditions. So, this paper deals with radioisotopes as suitable instruments for chemical analysis.

Cilia, microtubule-based structures found on the surface of almost all vertebrate cells, play an array of diverse biological functions. Abnormal ciliary axonemal structure and function can result in a class of genetic disorders that are collectively termed ciliopathies. Model organisms, including Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and Caenorhabditis elegans have been widely used to study the complex genetic basis of ciliopathies. Here, we review the advantages of the zebrafish as a vertebrate model for human ciliopathies. We summarize the features of zebrafish cilia, and the major findings and contributions of the zebrafish model in recent studies of human ciliopathies. We also discuss the new genome editing approaches being efficiently used in zebrafish, and the exciting prospects of these approaches in modeling human ciliopathies.
