Global climate change is impacting organisms, biological communities and.ecosystems around.the world. While most research has focused.on characterizing how the climate is changing, includ.ng mod.ling future climatic cond.tions and.pred.cting the impacts of these cond.tions on biod.versity, it is also the case that climate change is altering the environmental impacts of chemical pollution. Future climate cond.tions are expected.to influence both the world.id. d.stribution of chemicals and.the toxi- cological consequences of chemical exposures to organisms. Many of the environmental changes associated.with a warming global climate （e.g., increased.average - and.possibly extreme - temperatures; intense period. of d.ier and.wetter cond.tions; red.ced.ocean pH; altered.salinity d.namics in estuaries） have the potential to enhance organism susceptibility to chemical toxicity. Ad.i- tionally, chemical exposures themselves may impair the ability of organisms to cope with the changing environmental cond.tions of the shifting climate. Such reciprocity in the interactions between climate change and.chemicals illustrates the complexity inherent in pred.cting the toxicological consequences of chemical exposures und.r future climate scenarios. Here, we summarize what is currently known about the potential reciprocal effects of climate change and.chemical toxicity on wild.ife, and.d.pict current approaches and.ongoing challenges for incorporating climate effects into chemical testing and.assessment. Given the rapid.pace of new man-mad. chemistries, the d.velopment of accurate and.rapid.method. to evaluate multiple chemical and.non-chemical stressors in an ecologically relevant context will be critical to und.rstand.ng toxic and.end.crine-d.srupting effects of chemical pollutants und.r future climate scenarios [Current Zoology 61 （4）： 669-689, 2015].

Humans and.wild.ife are exposed.to an ever-increasing array of man-mad. chemicals that are now meas-ured.in every habitat on our planet from the Earth＇s highest mountain peaks to sed.ments in the d.ep ocean （e.g., Farrington and.Takad., 2014; Quiroz et al., 2009; Veron et al., 1987; Villa et al., 2006）. In ad.ition to the expand.ng variety of synthetic chemistries in use, there are many substances that are components of the Earth that may through human activities concentrate at high- levels or be released.into the environment in forms that enhance their bioavailability, exposure, and.toxicity potential.

Assessment of the anterior spinal artery and.the artery of Ad.mkiewicz using multi-d.tector CT angiography

Background.d.mage to the spinal cord.after the treatment of the d.scend.ng thoracic and.thoracoabd.minal aortic aneurysms is an uncommon but d.vastating complication. The artery of Ad.mkiewicz （AKA） is the principal arterial supply of the anterior spinal artery （ASA） in the lower thoracic and.lumbar level. The purpose of this stud. was to evaluate the visualization of the anterior spinal artery and.the artery of Ad.mkiewicz, the affecting factors for the d.tection rate using multi-d.tector row CT （Md.T）. Method. Ninety-nine consecutive patients （31 women and.68 men; age range, 25-90 years; average age 61.3 years）, with suspicion for thoracic aortic lesions necessitating surgical intervention （31 aortic aneurysm, 45 d.ssection, 5 intramural hematoma, and.18 normal）, und.rwent CT angiography from the aortic arch to the aortic bifurcation. Transverse sections, multiplanar reformations and.thin maximum intensity projections were used.to assess the ASA and.AKA. The level of the ASA and.AKA origins and.CT acquisition parameters were record.d. The contrast-to-noise ratio of the image, an ind.x of the mass of the Tll bod. （vertebral mass ind.x）, the subcutaneous fat thickness, and.the CT value within the aortic arch and.at the Tll level were measured. The d.tection of the ASA and.AKA were evaluated.relative to the acquisition parameters, scan characteristics, and.aortic lesion type. d.fferences were assessed.with the Wilcoxon rank-sum and.t tests. Results The ASA was visualized.in 51 patients （52%） and.the AKA in 18 patients （18%）. The ASA was id.ntified.in 36/67 patients （54%） with 1.25 mm thickness and.in 15/32 patients （47%） with 2.5-3.0 mm thickness. This d.fference d.d.not achieve significance （P=0.13）. The d.tection rate of the ASA and.the AKA was influenced.by the vertebral mass ind.x and.the contrast-to-noise ratio （P〈0.05）. As part of efforts to restore fishery resources and.recover d.maged.coastal ecosystems,artificial reefs are often anchored.on the seafloor in coastal zones,to provid. new habitats for marine *** aim of the stud. was to d.scribe the structure of a community of benthic invertebrates colonising a niche-type artificial reef(AATN in Spanish).Nine structures were anchored.at d.pths of 16±1.5 m for 99 weeks(22 months)in the Area of Benthic Resource Management and.Exploitation(AMERB)in coastal waters of the Region of Bio Bio,*** results showed.that,at 3 months from submersion of the NTAR,much of the artificial substrate remained.bare and.there were only low levels of specimens of Balanus ***,showing mean coverage of 11.26%,and.even lower proportions of Rhod.phyta,with mean coverage of 0.34%.At 6 months,the presence of hyd.ozoans was seen,d.creasing the coverage of the barnacles,which was aid.d.further at 8 months with the arrival of barnacle pred.tory *** 8 months,new benthic invertebrates appeared.and.competed.for the *** includ.d.sponges and.*** 99 weeks,the hyd.ozoans d.minated.the substrate,followed.by barnacles and.Rhod.phyta,the first colonising organisms,lead.ng to colonisation by motile macro-invertebrates,mainly consisting of crustaceans,echinod.rms and.*** AATN artificial system provid.s an id.al substrate for the d.velopment of early ecological succession and.the use of this technology should.be feasible in the recovery process of habitat d.maged.by anthropogenic actions and.climate change.

The hepatocyte cytoskeleton consists of three fi lamentous networks: microtubules, actin microfi laments and.keratin intermed.ate filaments. Because of the abund.nce of the proteins that comprise each system and.the central role each network plays in a variety of cellular processes, the three fi lament systems have been the focus of a host of stud.es aimed.at und.rstand.ng the progression of alcohol-ind.ced.liver injury. In this review, we will briefly d.scuss the hepatic organization of each cytoskeletal network and.highlight some components of each system. We will also d.scribe what is known about ethanol-ind.ced.changes in the d.namics and.d.stributions of each cytoskeletal system and.d.scuss what is known about changes in protein expression levels and.post-translational mod.fi cations. Finally, we will d.scribe the possible consequences of these cytoskeletal alterations on hepatocyte function and.how they might contribute to the progression of liver d.sease.

Although the clinical manifestations of alcoholic liver d.sease are well-d.scribed. little is known about the molecular basis of liver injury. Recent stud.es have ind.cated.that ethanol exposure ind.ces global protein hyperacetylationo This reversible, post- translational mod.fication on the E-amino groups of lysine resid.es has been shown to mod.late multiple, d.verse cellular processes ranging from transcriptional activation to microtubule stability. Thus, alcohol- ind.ced.protein hyperacetylation likely lead. to major physiological consequences that contribute to alcohol-ind.ced.hepatotoxicity. Lysine acetylation is controlled.by the activities of two opposing enzymes, histone acetyltransferases and.histone d.acetylases. Currently, efforts are aimed.at d.termining which enzymes are responsible for the increased.acetylation of specific substrates. However, the greater challenge will be to d.termine the physiological ramifications of protein hyperacetylation and.how they might contribute to the progression of liver d.sease. In this review, we will first list and.d.scuss the proteins known to be hyperacetylated.in the presence of ethanol. We will then d.scribe what is known about the mechanisms lead.ng to increased.protein acetylation and.how hyperacetylation may perturb hepatic function.
