Consumption of plant-based food products having high composition of polyphenols leads to the sensation of *** sliding oral surfaces,friction is an essential property during the oral perception of roughness and dryness which are attributes associated with *** factors including the chemical composition of interacting layers,structure and operation of interfaces have an effect on the astringency development *** manner of interactions occurring at oral interfaces suggest there is a system dependence of astringency and highlights the importance of adopting a tribosystems *** measurement techniques have shown an existing relationship between salivary protein-polyphenol interaction and an astringent ***,the tribo-chemistry involved in this multifaceted sensation remains largely unexplored in a comprehensive *** this review the underlying tribo-chemical processes useful in understanding the mechanism of astringency are highlighted and discussed considering current techniques employed to investigate astringency *** of lubrication on oral surfaces owing to the tribo-chemical interactions involving saliva and astringent plant proteins requires subsequent deformations of oral tissues which are significant enough to induce strains at mechanoreceptor locations,leading to the sensation of *** is proposed that micro-scale contact modelling on the interaction of food particles/aggregates,boundary layers and oral surfaces shows potential in addressing the knowledge gap between tribo-chemical measurement techniques and panel tests,making it possible to attain a predictor for astringency.

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the second most common cause of cancer death worldwide. It is broadly described that cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) is mainly overexpressed in CRC but less is known regarding post-translational modifications of this enzyme that may regulate its activity, intracellular localization and stability. since metabolic and proteomic profile analysis is essential for cancer prognosis and diagnosis, our hypothesis is that the analysis of correlations between these specific parameters and COX-2 state in tumors of a high number of CRC patients could be useful for the understanding of the basis of this cancer in *** To analyze COX-2 regulation in colorectal cancer and to perform a detailed analysis of their metabolic and proteomic *** Biopsies from both healthy and pathological colorectal tissues were taken under informed consent from patients during standard colonoscopy procedure in the University hospital of Bellvitge(Barcelona, spain) and Germans Trias i Pujol University hospital(Campus Can Ruti)(Barcelona, spain). Western blot analysis was used to determine COX-2 levels. Deglycosylation assays were performed in both cells and tumor samples incubating each sample with peptide N-glycosidase F(PNGase F). Prostaglandin E2(PGE2) levels were determined using a specific ELIsA. 1 h high resolution magic angle spinning(hRMAs) analysis was performed using a Bruker AVIII 500 Mhz spectrometer and proteomic analysis was performed in a nano-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer(nano LC-Ms/Ms) using a QExactive hF orbitrap *** Our data show that COX-2 has a differential expression profile in tumor tissue of CRC patients vs the adjacent non-tumor area, which correspond to a glycosylated and less active state of the protein. Effect of a 5% Neem solution on the Presence of Ticks in Cattle in Two Locations in Jalisco, Mexico

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of a 5% neem extract on the presence of ticks. Forty creole cattle were used, divided into four groups: 2 experimental and 2 controls, in the towns of Cocula and El Chante, Jalisco. The tick count was by direct palpation, and with an acarometer (25 cm2). Eight body regions were evaluated: neck, thorax, flank and thigh, left and right. At zero time, after the initial tick count, it was applied by spraying and once, the 5% neem extract, at a dose of 10 ml/L. Ticks were quantified at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days post-treatment. The data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis and sum of Kruskal-Wallis Ranges (α = 0.05) (sigmastat 3.1). In Cocula, at zero time, the average of ticks was in neck 32, in thorax 64, in flanks 96 and in thighs 129 (average per animal 323 ticks). In subsequent sampling, the average decreased in the experimental group to 1 or 4 parasites. In “El Chante”, an average of 60 ticks was found at the time of the neck, in the thorax 121, in flanks 181 and in thighs 242 (average per animal 600 ticks). In subsequent sampling, the average decreased in the experimental group, with averages of 1 to 4. statistical differences (p ≤ 0.001) were found between the groups. It can be concluded that 5% neem extract has a repellent and tick effect in cattle for at least 42 days.

Role of double-balloon enteroscopy in malignant small bowel tumors

AIM: To assess the double-balloon enteroscopy(DBE) role in malignant small bowel tumors(MsBT).METhODs: This is a retrospective descriptive study performed in a single center. All consecutive patients who underwent a DBE with final diagnosis of a malignant neoplasm from 2004 to 2014 in our referral center were included. Patient demographic and clinical pathological characteristics were recorded and reviewed. MsBT diagnosis was achieved either by DBE directed biopsy with multiple tissue sampling, endoscopic findings or histological analysis of surgical specimen. We have analyzed double-balloon enteroscopy impact in outcome and clinical course of these patients. REsULTs: Of 627 patients, 28(4.5%)(mean age = 60 ± 17.3 years) underwent 30 procedures(25 anterograde, 5 retrograde) and were diagnosed of a malignant tumor. Patients presented with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding(n = 19, 67.9%), occlusion syndrome(n = 7, 25%) and diarrhea(n = 1, 3.6%). They were diagnosed by DBE biopsy(n = 18, 64.3%), histological analysis of surgical specimen(n = 7, 25%) and unequivocal endoscopic findings(n = 2, 7.1%). Gastrointestinal stromal tumor(n = 8, 28.6%), adenocarcinoma(n = 7, 25%), lymphoma(n = 4, 14.3%), neuroendocrine tumor(n = 4, 14.3%), metastatic(n = 3, 10.7%) and Kaposi sarcoma(n = 1, 3.6%) were identified. DBE modified outcome in 7 cases(25%), delaying or avoiding emergency surgery(n = 3), modifying surgery approach(n = 2) and indicating emergency sB partial resection instead of elective approach(n = 2).CONCLUsION: DBE may be critical in the management of MsBT providing additional information that may be decisive in the clinical course of these patients.
