Cadmium(Cd)causes oxidative stress,which leads to the oxidation of various biomolecules by the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)to facilitate programmed cell death(PCD).The antioxidant defense system fails to detoxify ROS when it is produced in *** oxide(NO),a gaseous free radical and a phytohormone,regulates various physiological processes of ***,this work was undertaken to study the effects of the application of exogenous sodium nitroprusside(SNP,a NO donor)on growth parameters,oxidative stress,accumulation of secondary metabolites,and activities of antioxidant enzymes under Cd ***(50μM)and severe(200μM)Cd stress were applied to hydroponically grown pea(Pisum sativum L.)plants with or without 50μM *** Cd stress had a substantial impact on the *** effectiveness of NO in reducing Cd-induced negative effects on plant height,fresh weight,dry weight,protein content,nitrite content,nitrate reductase(NR)activity,catalase activity,and peroxidase activity were *** development,protein content,nitrite content,nitrate reductase(NR)activity,antioxidant defense systems disruption,overproduction of reactive oxygen species,and oxidative damage were *** antioxidant defense system(catalase and peroxidase activities)was activated by NO,which resulted in lower lipid peroxidation and lower hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)levels in Cd-exposed *** treatment boosted endogenous NO levels and NR activity in Cd-stressed plants while also enhanced proline levels to preserve osmotic *** presence of total phenols and flavonoids increased after SNP treatment,indicating that SNP enhanced stress recovery and boosted plant development in Cd-stressed plants.

BACKGROUND 2D-echocardiography(2DE)has been the primary imaging modality in children with Kawasaki disease(KD)to assess coronary *** To report the presence and implications of incidental congenital coronary artery anomalies that had been misinterpreted as coronary artery abnormalities(CAAs)on *** Records of children diagnosed with KD,who underwent computed tomography coronary angiography(CTCA)at our center between 2013-2023 were *** identified 3 children with congenital coronary artery anomalies in this cohort on *** of CTCA and 2DE were compared in these 3 *** Of the 241 patients with KD who underwent CTCA,3(1.24%)had congenital coronary artery anomalies on CTCA detected *** all 3 patients,baseline 2DE had identified *** was then performed for detailed evaluation as per our unit ***(11-year-boy)amongst the 3 patients had complete KD,while the other two(3.3-year-boy;4-month-girl)had incomplete *** revealed separate origins of left anterior descending artery and left circumflex from left sinus[misinterpreted as dilated left main coronary artery(LCA)on 2DE],single coronary artery(interpreted as dilated LCA on 2DE)and dilated right coronary artery on 2DE in case of anomalous origin of LCA from the main pulmonary *** latter one was subsequently operated *** CTCA is essential for detailed assessment of coronary arteries in children with KD especially in cases where there is suspicion of congenital coronary artery *** solely on 2DE may not be sufficient in such cases,and findings from CTCA can significantly impact therapeutic decision-making.

Rabies is a zoonotic disease that affects the central nervous system(CNS)of humans with an extremely high mortality *** disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of rabid animals,usually ***-exposure prophylaxis(PEP)is recommended for all rabid animal *** delayed or missed there is a very high chance of developing the disease which is almost always *** 55000 human rabies-related deaths are reported due to delayed or deferred rabies PEP in the world annually[1].The public usually ignores earlier indicators of rabies and is unwilling to consult a doctor,to avoid contracting COVID-19 during hospital visit[2].We present a case of human rabies infection due to non-compliant PEP amid the COVID-19 pandemic following a rabid dog bite.

Epidemiology of Maxillofacial Trauma in Pediatric and Adolescent Population: An Institutional Experience of 6 Years

Introduction: Facial fractures are uncommon injuries in children. Pediatric maxillofacial fractures constitute 1% to 15% of all facial fractures, but show different clinical features when compared with adult patients. Worldwide, the major causes of fractures in children are accidents, falls, violence, and sports- related accidents. Facial trauma in children may result in injury to the facial growth centers, leading to subsequent developmental abnormalities in the injured area. Patients & Methods: Data of pediatric and adolescent patients (0 - 17 years), with a history of trauma, has been compiled over a period of 6 years. History, clinical and radiographic data records were analyzed. Compilation was done in the following categories;age and sex distribution, etiology, site of trauma and associated soft tissue injuries were recorded. The treatment rendered has also been mentioned. Results: A total of 340 patient records were assessed. Demographic data, etiology, type of fracture, associated injury and treatment rendered were recorded. It was found that males (54.7%) were more frequently affected than females (45.3%). Incidence of trauma was more in children belonging to the pre-school age group (38.5%) and the most common etiology was sports-related injuries (43.8%). Dentoalveolar fractures were the most common type (58.5%) of fractures seen in the patients. Most of the patients were managed by conservative treatment (35%) or closed reduction (48%), while a few required open reduction (7.9%). Conclusion: It is felt that this data will be useful in determining the pattern and etiology of maxillofacial trauma in pediatric patients in an Indian setting. Additionally, an outline of the treatment plan in different types of fractures is also summarized.

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients with malignancy are published worldwide but are lacking in data from *** To characterize COVID-19 related mortality outcomes within 30 d of diagnosis with HRCT score and RT-PCR Ct value-based viral load in various solid *** Patients included in this study were with an active or previous malignancy and with confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection from the institute *** collected data on demographic details,baseline clinical conditions,medications,cancer diagnosis,treatment and the COVID-19 disease *** primary endpoint was the association between the mortality outcome and the potential prognostic variables,specially,HRCT score,RT-PCR Ct value-based viral load,*** logistic regression analyses treatment received in 30 *** Out of 131 patients,123 met inclusion criteria for our *** median age was 57 years(interquartile range=19-82)while 7(5.7%)were aged 75 years or *** most prevalent malignancies were of GUT origin 49(39.8%),hepatopancreatobiliary(HPB)40(32.5%).109(88.6%)patients were on active anticancer treatment,115(93.5%)had active(measurable)*** analysis on May 20,2021,26(21.1%)patients had *** logistic regression analysis,independent factors associated with an increased 30-d mortality were in patients with the symptomatic *** in the last 4 wk,number of comorbidities(≥2 vs none:3.43,1.08-8.56).The univariate analysis showed that the risk of death was significantly associated with the HRCT score:for moderate(8-15)[odds ratio(OR):3.44;95%confidence interval(CI):1.3-9.12;P=0.0132],severe(>15)(OR:7.44;95%CI:1.58-35.1;P=0.0112).CONCLUSION To the best of our knowledge,this is the first study from India reporting the association of HRCT score and RT-PCR Ct value-based 30-d mortality outcomes in SARS-CoV-2 infected cancer patients.
