Integrated Hydrological Modeling of the Godavari River Basin in Maharashtra Using the SWAT Model: Streamflow Simulation and Analysis

Hydrological modeling plays a crucial role in efficiently managing water resources and understanding the hydrologic behavior of watersheds. This study aims to simulate daily streamflow in the Godavari River Basin in Maharashtra using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). SWAT is a process-based hydrological model used to predict water balance components, sediment levels, and nutrient contamination. In this research, we used integrated remote sensing and GIS data, including Digital Elevation Models (DEM), land use and land cover (LULC) maps, soil maps, and observed precipitation and temperature data, as input for developing the SWAT model to assess surface runoff in this large river basin. The Godavari River Basin under study was divided into 25 sub-basins, comprising 151 hydrological response units categorized by unique land cover, soil, and slope characteristics using the SWAT model. The model was calibrated and validated against observed runoff data for two time periods: 2003-2006 and 2007-2010 respectively. Model performance was assessed using the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) and the coefficient of determination (R2). The results show the effectiveness of the SWAT2012 model, with R2 value of 0.84 during calibration and 0.86 during validation. NSE values also ranged from 0.84 during calibration to 0.85 during validation. These findings enhance our understanding of surface runoff dynamics in the Godavari River Basin under study and highlight the suit-ability of the SWAT model for this region.

Land Use Land Cover Analysis for Godavari Basin in Maharashtra Using Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing

The dynamic transformation of land use and land cover has emerged as a crucial aspect in the effective management of natural resources and the continual monitoring of environmental shifts. This study focused on the land use and land cover (LULC) changes within the catchment area of the Godavari River, assessing the repercussions of land and water resource exploitation. Utilizing LANDSAT satellite images from 2009, 2014, and 2019, this research employed supervised classification through the Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) software’s SCP plugin. Maximum likelihood classification algorithm was used for the assessment of supervised land use classification. Seven distinct LULC classes—forest, irrigated cropland, agricultural land (fallow), barren land, shrub land, water, and urban land—are delineated for classification purposes. The study revealed substantial changes in the Godavari basin’s land use patterns over the ten-year period from 2009 to 2019. Spatial and temporal dynamics of land use/cover changes (2009-2019) were quantified using three Satellite/Landsat images, a supervised classification algorithm and the post classification change detection technique in GIS. The total study area of the Godavari basin in Maharashtra encompasses 5138175.48 hectares. Notably, the built-up area increased from 0.14% in 2009 to 1.94% in 2019. The proportion of irrigated cropland, which was 62.32% in 2009, declined to 41.52% in 2019. Shrub land witnessed a noteworthy increase from 0.05% to 2.05% over the last decade. The key findings underscored significant declines in barren land, agricultural land, and irrigated cropland, juxtaposed with an expansion in forest land, shrub land, and urban land. The classification methodology achieved an overall accuracy of 80%, with a Kappa Statistic of 71.9% for the satellite images. In patients with lagophthalmos due to eyelid trauma,it is imperative to ensure adequate closure of the eye to protect the ocular *** it is difficult to surgically close eyelids by conventional methods of tarsorrhaphy,such as intermarginal suture tarsorrhaphy,Week’s tarsorrhaphy,and tongue-in-groove *** need intact eyelid tissues to perform these procedures and might not be possible in patients with severe lagophthalmos due to lost/damaged eyelid tissues either due to deficient length of tissues or increased tension at the wound site,which can result in surgical failure.[1]

Cadmium(Cd),a life threatening hazardous heavy metal is abundant in *** amounts are greater in leaves than other plant parts,and it shows considerable effects on *** oxide(NO),a free radical present in living organisms,is now known as an important signaling molecule playing various physiological processes in *** this study,the possible ameliorative effect of NO on photosynthesis was examined on pea seedlings grown under Cd *** showed that chlorophyll,net photosynthetic rate,transpiration rate,stomatal conductance,photochemical efficiency of Photosystem II and Photosystem I decreased,and Fo and nonphotochemical parameters for PSII and PSI significantly increased due to Cd *** suggests that Cd affects the photochemistry efficiency at both the PSII and PSI *** oxide supplementation through SNP ameliorated Cd stress by enhancing all the above mentioned parameters but causing a reduction in the Fo,and non-photochemical parameters of PSII and PSI in pea *** data indicate that the exogenous application of NO was useful in mitigating Cd-induced damage to photosynthesis in pea seedling.

Controlled Vertical Transfer of Individual Au Atoms Using a Surface Supported Carbon Radical for Atomically Precise Manufacturing

To explore a proof-of-concept for atomically precise manufacturing(APM)using scanning probe microscopy(SPM),first principle theoretical calculations of atom-by-atom transfer from the apex of an SPM tip to an individual radical on a surfacebound organic molecule have been *** transfer is achieved by spatially controlled motion of a gold terminated tip to the *** molecular tools for SPM-based APM have been designed and investigated,each comprising an adamantane core,a radical end group,and trithiol linkers to enable strong chemisorption on the Au(111)surface:ethynyl-adamantanetrithiol and *** demonstrate the details of controlled Au atom abstraction during tip approach toward and retraction from the radical *** approach of the tip,the apical Au atom undergoes a transfer toward the carbon radical at a clearly defined threshold *** atomic displacement is accompanied by a net energy gain of the system in the range−0.5 to−1.5 eV,depending on the radical *** the case of a triangular pyramidal apex model,two tip configurations are possible after the tip atom displacement:(1)an Au atom is abstracted from the tip and bound to the C radical,not bound to the tip base anymore,and(2)apical tip atoms rearrange to form a continuous neck between the tip and *** the second case,subsequent tip retraction leads to the same final configuration as the first,with the abstracted Au atom bound to radical carbon atom of the molecular *** the less reactive adamantyl-trithiol radical molecular tool,Au atom transfer is less energetically favored,but this has the advantage of avoiding other apex gold atoms from rearrangement.

Cadmium(Cd)causes oxidative stress,which leads to the oxidation of various biomolecules by the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)to facilitate programmed cell death(PCD).The antioxidant defense system fails to detoxify ROS when it is produced in *** oxide(NO),a gaseous free radical and a phytohormone,regulates various physiological processes of ***,this work was undertaken to study the effects of the application of exogenous sodium nitroprusside(SNP,a NO donor)on growth parameters,oxidative stress,accumulation of secondary metabolites,and activities of antioxidant enzymes under Cd ***(50μM)and severe(200μM)Cd stress were applied to hydroponically grown pea(Pisum sativum L.)plants with or without 50μM *** Cd stress had a substantial impact on the *** effectiveness of NO in reducing Cd-induced negative effects on plant height,fresh weight,dry weight,protein content,nitrite content,nitrate reductase(NR)activity,catalase activity,and peroxidase activity were *** development,protein content,nitrite content,nitrate reductase(NR)activity,antioxidant defense systems disruption,overproduction of reactive oxygen species,and oxidative damage were *** antioxidant defense system(catalase and peroxidase activities)was activated by NO,which resulted in lower lipid peroxidation and lower hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)levels in Cd-exposed *** treatment boosted endogenous NO levels and NR activity in Cd-stressed plants while also enhanced proline levels to preserve osmotic *** presence of total phenols and flavonoids increased after SNP treatment,indicating that SNP enhanced stress recovery and boosted plant development in Cd-stressed plants.

Exposure to air pollutants in Vietnam:Assessing potential risk for tourists

Tourism can form an important component of a nation＇s GDP, and Vietnam is among the most visited countries in Southeast Asia. Most studies on personal exposure focus on the general population, or occupational cohorts with exposure to specific pollutants. However, short-term exposure to air pollutants while visiting regions with high levels of air pollution can lead to acute health effects. A personal exposure study was conducted across three cities in Vietnam to estimate exposure to particulate matter （PM2.5） and black carbon for tourists. Measurements were conducted during the wet season in 2014 in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat and Nha Trang using portable instrumentation. Average 24-hr PM2.5 and BC exposures were estimated as 18.9 ± 9.24 and 3.41 ± 1.33 μg/m3 and among the three cities, Ho Chi Minh was found to have the highest PM2.5 concentrations. Environmental tobacco smoke, commuting and street food stands were found to contribute to highest levels of exposure to PM2.s and BC across all cities.
