Concomita.tly with the increa.e in the preva.ences of overweight/obesity, nona.coholic fa.ty liver disea.e(Na.LD) ha. worldwide become the ma.n ca.se of chronic liver disea.e in both a.ults a.d children. Pa.ients with fa.ty liver displa. fea.ures of meta.olic syndrome(Met S), like insulin resista.ce(IR), glucose intolera.ce, hypertension a.d dyslipidemia. Recently, epidemiologica. studies ha.e linked obesity, Met S, a.d Na.LD to decrea.ed bone minera. density a.d osteoporosis, highlighting a. intrica.e interpla. a.ong bone, a.ipose tissue, a.d liver. Osteoprotegerin(OPG), a. importa.t symbol of the receptor a.tiva.or of nuclea. fa.tor-B liga.d/receptor a.tiva.or of nuclea. fa.tor ka.pa.B/OPG system a.tiva.ion, typica.ly considered for its role in bone meta.olism, ma. a.so pla. critica. roles in the initia.ion a.d perpetua.ion of obesityrela.ed comorbidities. Clinica. da.a.ha.e indica.ed tha. OPG concentra.ions a.e a.socia.ed with hypertension, left ventricula. hypertrophy, va.cula. ca.cifica.ion, endothelia. dysfunction, a.d severity of liver da.a.e in chronic hepa.itis C. Nonetheless, the rela.ionship between circula.ing OPG a.d IR a. a.key fea.ure of Met S a. well a. between OPG a.d Na.LD rema.ns uncerta.n. Thus, the a.ms of the present review a.e to provide the existent knowledge on these a.socia.ions a.d to discuss briefly the underlying mecha.isms linking OPG a.d Na.LD.

The inverse rela.ion of H. pylori preva.ence a.d the increa.e in a.lergies, a. reported from epidemiologica. studies, ha. stimula.ed resea.ch for elucida.ing potentia. underlying pa.hophysiologica. mecha.isms. a.though H. pylori is most frequently a.quired during childhood in both developed a.d developing countries, clinicia.s a.e less fa.ilia. with the pedia.ric litera.ure in the field. a.better understa.ding of the H. pylori disea.e spectrum in childhood should lea. to clea.er recommenda.ions a.out testing for a.d trea.ing H. pylori infection in children who a.e more likely to develop clinica. sequela.. a.further clinica. cha.lenge is whether the progressive decrea.e of H. pylori in thela.t deca.es, a.etted by modern clinica. pra.tices, ma. ha.e other hea.th consequences.

Thus Na.LD ha. emerged a. the hepa.ic component of the meta.olic syndrome(MetS) a.d a.strong ca.diova.cula. risk fa.tor even a. a.very ea.ly a.e. Severa. studies, including pedia.ric popula.ions, ha.e reported independent a.socia.ions between Na.LD a.d ma.kers of subclinica. a.herosclerosis including impa.red flow-media.ed va.odila.ion, increa.ed ca.otid a.tery intima.media.thickness, a.d a.teria. stiffness, a.ter a.justing for ca.diova.cula. risk fa.tors a.d MetS. a.so, it ha. been shown tha. a.M To esta.lish a.threshold va.ue for liver fa. content between hea.thy children a.d those with nona.coholic fa.ty liver disea.e(Na.LD) by using ma.netic resona.ce ima.ing(MRI), with liver biopsy serving a. a.reference sta.da.d. METHODS The study wa. a.proved by the loca. ethics committee, a.d written informed consent wa. obta.ned from a.l pa.ticipa.ts a.d their lega. gua.dia.s before the study bega.. Twenty-seven children with Na.LD underwent liver biopsy to a.sess the presence of nona.coholic stea.ohepa.itis. The a.sessment of liver fa. fra.tion wa. performed using MRI, with a.high field ma.net a.d 2D gra.ient-echo a.d multiple-echo T1-weighted sequence with low flip a.gle a.d single-voxel pointresolved 1H MR-Spectroscopy(1H-MRS), corrected for T1 a.d T2* deca.s. Receiver opera.ing cha.a.teristic curve a.a.ysis wa. used to determine the best cutoff va.ue. Lin coefficient test wa. used to eva.ua.e thecorrela.ion between histology, MRS a.d MRI-PDFF. a.Ma.n-Whitney U-test a.d multiva.ia.e a.a.ysis were performed to a.a.yze the continuous va.ia.les. RESULTS a.cording to MRS, the threshold va.ue between hea.thy children a.d those with Na.LD is 6%; using MRI-PDFF, a.cut-off va.ue of 3.5% is suggested. The Lin a.a.ysis revea.ed a.good fit between the histology a.d MRS a. well a. *** MRS is a. a.cura.e a.d precise method for detecting Na.LD in children.

a.M: To a.a.yze the a.socia.ions of pa.crea.ic fa. with other fa. depots a.d β-cell function in pedia.ric nona.coholic fa.ty liver disea.e(Na.LD).METHODS: We exa.ined 158 overweight/obese children a.d a.olescents, 80 with Na.LD [hepa.ic fa. fra.tion(HFF) ≥ 5%] a.d 78 without fa.ty liver. Viscera. a.ipose tissue(Va.), pa.crea.ic fa. fra.tion(PFF) a.d HFF were determined by ma.netic resona.ce ima.ing. Estima.es of insulin sensitivity were ca.cula.ed using the homeosta.is model a.sessment of insulin resista.ce(HOMa.IR), defined by fa.ting insulin a.d fa.ting glucose a.d whole-body insulin sensitivity index(WBISI), ba.ed on mea. va.ues of insulin a.d glucose obta.ned from ora. glucose tolera.ce test a.d the corresponding fa.ting va.ues. Pa.ients were considered to ha.e predia.etes if they ha. either:(1) impa.red fa.ting glucose, defined a. a.fa.ting glucose level ≥ 100 mg/d L to a.red glucose tolera.ce, defined a. a.2 h glucose concentra.ion between ≥ 140 mg/d L a.d a. c va.ue of ≥ 5.7% to a. significa.tly higher in Na.LD pa.ients compa.ed with subjects without liver involvement. PFF wa. significa.tly a.socia.ed with HFF a.d Va., a. well a. fa.ting insulin, C peptide, HOMa.IR, a.d WBISI. The a.socia.ion between PFF a.d HFF wa. no longer significa.t a.ter a.justing for a.e, gender, Ta.ner sta.e, body ma.s index(BMI)-SD score, a.d Va.. a.renewed interest in interspecific va.ieties ha. recently emerged, due ma.nly to producers a.d consumers more a.a.e of orga.ic fa.ming a.d impa.t of phytochemica.s in the environment. The a.sessment of 19 Europea. Vitis hybrids wa. investiga.ed in a. a.ea.mostly dedica.ed to viticulture, the North-Ea.ternIta.y. Ma.or a.ronomic tra.ts, yield, qua.ity cha.a.teristics a.d disea.e resista.ce were eva.ua.ed during a.three-yea. period (2004 to 2006). Wine sensory a.a.yses were performed a.d compa.ed with interna.iona. Vitis vinifera.va.ieties. Even though no genotypes resulted a.equa.e for ma.ket relea.e, the results obta.ned confirm the potentia. importa.ce of hybrids in a. “eco-friendly” viticulture a.d identify the genotypes interesting for further investiga.ion a.d breeding: GF 138-3 a.d Ga.48-12 showed good a.ronomic performa.ce, resista.ce to more gra.e disea.es a.d high qua.ity wine.
