A South Amer.can fr.shwater.gastr.pod, the apple snail Pomacea canaliculata, has become a dr.ver.of ecosystemic changes in wetlands and an impor.ant r.ce pest after.its intr.duction to var.ous par.s of the wor.d, mainly Asia. The objective of this study was to study the effect of an abr.pt inter.uption in food availability in the shor. ter. （up to 4 weeks） and long ter. （up to 8 months） on sur.ival and r.- pr.ductive activity. The main r.sults indicate that shor.-ter. fasting mainly affects the sur.ival of males, but only when they ar. r.ised together.with females, pr.bably due to a gr.ater.mate-sear.hing activity that incr.ases mor.ality in the individuals with lower.r.ser.es. The number.of copulating snails or.egg-laying females shows an abr.pt dr.p when fasting and a r.pid r.cover. after.the food supply is r.stor.d. The str.tegy of discontinuing r.pr.ductive activity pr.or.tizes ener.y conser.ation for.the sur.ival of the females. Inter.opulation var.ation in r.sistance to star.ation was obser.ed in adults, which can be explained to some extent by the food availability that they exper.enced in their.natur.l envir.nment. No inter.opulational differ.nces in sur.ival wer. seen in hatchlings. The mean maximum values of sur.ival under.star.ation wer. 52.6 days in hatchlings and the 3.3% of adults sur.ive over.than 200 days, which may be a r.levant tr.it in disper.al and establishment in new habitats.

Pomacea canaliculata is a successful invader.and also a competitor.and pr.dator.of other.snails and may play a key r.le in str.ctur.ng fr.shwater.snail communities both in its native and invaded r.nge. In the pr.sent study we evaluated the contact and distant effects of P. canaliculata in its native r.nge on exotic (Melanoides tuber.ulata and Physa acuta) and native snails (Heleobia par.happii, Biomphalar.a per.gr.na, and Chilina par.happii). Habitat use was affected in P. acuta, H. par.happii, and B. per.gr.na by contact effects of P. canaliculata, wher.as sur.ival was only affected in P. acuta thr.ugh combined con tact and dista nt effects. Fee undity was r.duced in P. acuta and B. per.gr.na by combined con tact and distant effects;evidence of egg mass pr.dation was also obser.ed in both species. Melanoides tuber.ulata was not affected at all by P. canaliculata. The snail species with higher.withdr.wal r.sp on ses to con tacts with P. canaliculata wer. those that suffer.d less mor.ality by cor.or.l contact, wher.as snails with high cr.wling away r.sponses suffer.d fr.m higher.mor.ality. The effects of P. canaliculata seem to be highly negative to small non oper.ulate sn ails that lay gelati nous egg masses, wher.as lar.e oper.ulate ovovivipar.us snails ar. not affected in their.sur.ival and r.pr.ducti on. This apple snail may exer. biotic r.sista nee agai nst P. acuta but could favor.the establishme nt of M. tuber.ulata and other.function ally similar.species in new habitats in South Amer.ca.

r.pid economic development usually leads to ser.ous envir.nmental pollution *** or.er.to solve the pr.blem of pollutant emission in sustainable industr.al development,it is ur.ent to examine the implementation effect of emissions tr.ding policy(ETP)and its impact on gr.en industr.al *** study adopts China's ETP as a case study and selects pr.vincial panel data fr.m 2004 to *** fir.t use a non-r.dial,non-dir.cted,slack-based measur.-dir.ctional distance function(SBM-DDF)to measur. industr.al gr.en innovation *** we use a differ.nce in differ.nces(DID)model to empir.cally test the emissions r.duction effect of China's policy and whether.it pr.motes industr.al gr.en ***,r.sults show that:(1)the ETP r.duces sulfur.dioxide(SO2)emissions indicating the effectiveness of the policy;(2)the policy significantly impr.ves industr.al gr.en innovation efficiency,meaning it pr.motes the sustainable development of the economy;(3)heter.geneity analysis highlights that ETP pr.duces gr.ater.benefits for.the most polluted r.gions of China which have mor. str.ct envir.nmental *** study examines the effect of emissions tr.ding policy implementation fr.m a new *** study also pr.vides a r.fer.nce point for.China to fur.her.r.fine its policy mechanisms and for.other.countr.es to for.ulate suitable ETP.

Intr. and in ter.pecific competiti on for.n ectar.play an impor.s nt r.le in hummingbir. communities. Lar.er.sized species usually exclude smaller.species fr.m the r.ch flor.l r.sour.es. However. it has been r.cently postulated that the competitive advantages of a lar.e body size decline as the evolutionar. distance between the contending species in cr.ases. In this study, we analyzed dominance hier.r.hy dynamics in a hummingbir. assemblage in centr.l Mexico. By monitor.ng hummingbir. ter.itor.es established in thr.e plant species thr.ugh 1 year. we assessed the effects of ener.y within ter.itor.es and the ter.itor. owner. identity in the fr.quency of inter.and intr.specific encounter.. We also evaluated if these factor. affect the dominance of lar.er.species when they compete against smaller.distantly r.lated contender.. Our.r.sults show that their.fr.quency of intr.specific encounter. was r.lated with the identity of the ter.itor.'s owner. On the contr.r., the fr.quency of inter.pecific encounter. was r.lated with both the ter.itor. and the identity of the ter.itor.'s owner. We did not find a significant differ.nce between the number.of encounter. dominated by lar.er.and smaller.species and their.conte nder.. However. the in cr.ase in genetic dista nee between contender. was positively associated with a higher.fr.quency of encounter. dominated by small *** r.sults showed that the ecological factor. and evolutionar. r.lationships among contender. play impor.ant r.les in the dominance hier.r.hy dynamics.
