This review provides a summary of botanicals and plant strengtheners that have potential uses for disease and pest management in potato and tomato cultivation in *** discuss their possible use to prevent major diseases and pests which infest potato and tomato,such as early and late blight,bacterial wilt,potato tuber moth,and tomato *** are several examples of the successful uses of botanicals for pathogen and pest control relevant for different African climatic conditions;however,most of these studies have been conducted in vitro and often lack field *** strengtheners(substances that induce and improve crop resistance,yield,and quality)are little studied and used in Africa in comparison to North America and *** possible benefits of using botanicals and plant strengtheners instead of conventional pesticides are discussed here in relation to human health and the environment as well as their modes of action and accessibility to *** of knowledge of the composition and active ingredients of extracts,environmental concerns,uncertainties regarding stability and formulation,lack of legislation and limited support from governments,hamper the development of botanicals and plant strengtheners for use in sustainable African agriculture.

Anxiety and depression in spasmodic dysphonia patients

Objective/Hypothesis: Experts used to believe that spasmodic dysphonia (SD) was a psychogenic disorder. Although SD is now established as a neurological disorder, the rates of co-morbid anxiety and depression range from 7.1％ to 62％. Our objective was to study the prev-alence and risk factors associated with these mood disorders in SD patients. Study design: Retrospective. Methods: SD patients who presented for botulinum toxin injections were recruited. Demo-graphic data, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Voice Handicap Index-10 (VHI-10), General Self-Efficacy scale (GSES), Disease Specific Self-Efficacy in Spasmodic Dysphonia scale (DSSE), and Consensus Auditory Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (caPE-V) were collected. Results: One hundred and forty two patients (age (59.2 ± 13.6) years, 25.4％ male) had VHI-10 of 26.3 ± 6.9 (mean ± standard deviation), GSES 33.2 ± 5.8, caPE-V 43.9 ± 20.9, HADS anxiety 6.7 ± 3.7, and HADS depression 3.6 ± 2.8. About 19 (13.4％) and 4 (2.8％) had symptoms of anx-iety and depression respectively. Final linear regression model for HADS anxiety (R2 = 32.90％) showed that patients who were less likely to have anxiety symptoms were older age (p patients who were less likely to have depressive symptoms had high DSSES (p cacy, and higher perceived vocal handicap. The main risk factor for depression was lower disease specific self-efficacy.

Signal transduction mediated by Bid, a pro-death Bcl-2 family proteins, connects the death receptor and mitochondria apoptosis pathways

Two major apoptosis pathways have been defined in mammalian cells, the Fas/TNF-R1 death receptor pathway and the mitochondria pathway. The Bcl-2 family proteins consist of both anti-apoptosis and pro- apoptosis members that regulate apoptosis, mainly by controlling the release of cytochrome c and other mitochondrial apoptotic events. However, death signals mediated by Fas/TNF-R1 receptors can usually activate caspases directly, bypassing the need for mitochondria and escaping the regulation by Bcl-2 family proteins. Bid is a novel pro-apoptosis Bcl-2 family protein that is activated by caspase 8 in response to Fas/TNF-R1 death receptor signals. Activated Bid is translocated to mitochondria and induces cytochrome c release, which in turn activates downstream caspases. Such a connection between the two apoptosis pathways could be important for induction of apoptosis in certain types of cells and responsible for the pathogenesis of a number of human diseases.

北祁连造山带是早古生代大洋板块"冷"俯冲的典型地区,形成了一系列高压低温变质的岩石组合。基性榴辉岩是俯冲洋壳变质的产物,根据其结构构造特征可以划分为(1)粒状榴辉岩,峰期变质矿物组合为Grt+Omp+Phn+Rut±Lws,硬柱石呈包裹体和假象分布于石榴石内,变质温压条件T=465～508℃,p=2.30～2.60Gpa。(2)片状榴辉岩,岩石具片状构造,其共生矿物组合Omp+Czo/Ep+Phn+Gln构成透入性面理S_1和线理L_1,以及宏观和显微同斜褶皱F_1。其峰期变质温压条件为T=466～510℃,P=1.9～2.2Gpa。(3)蓝片岩相退化变质榴辉岩,蓝片岩相变质矿物Gln+Ep+Phn±Ab强烈交代榴辉岩相矿物,并发生强烈D_2期变形作用,岩石形成明显的透入性面理S_2和线理L_2,以及同斜剪切褶皱F_2。蓝闪石和多硅白云母线理的统计揭示D_2期变形以斜向走滑剪切为主,与D_1期变形的榴辉岩的运动学特征大体相似。D_2同变质的温压条件为T=422～487℃,P=1.15～1.37Gpa。高压变质带晚期的绿片岩相叠加和D_3期变形,形成透入性面理S_3和线理L_3,其运动特征为近于垂直构造线的逆冲剪切。结合榴辉岩变形特征,变质温压条件和同位素年代学资料,我们认为退变质的强弱与变形程度有密切关系。峰期变质后的榴辉岩经过早期绿帘石榴辉岩相到蓝片岩相斜向走滑剪切,和晚期绿片岩相逆冲,在泥盆纪早期快速折返的出露地表。

Three-dimensional mixed convection stagnation-point fow past a vertical surface with second-order slip velocity

This study is concerned with the three-dimensional(3D)stagnation-point for the mixed convection flow past a vertical surface considering the first-order and secondorder velocity *** the authors’knowledge,this is the first study presenting this very interesting *** partial differential equations for the flow problem are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODEs)by using appropriate similarity *** ODEs with the corresponding boundary conditions are numerically solved by utilizing the bvp4c solver in MATLAB programming *** effects of the governing parameters on the non-dimensional velocity profiles,temperature profiles,skin friction coefficients,and the local Nusselt number are presented in detail through a series of graphs and ***,it is reported that the reduced skin friction coefficient decreases for the assisting flow situation and increases for the opposing flow *** numerical computations of the present work are compared with those from other research available in specific situations,and an excellent consensus is *** exciting feature for this work is the existence of dual *** important remark is that the dual solutions exist for both assisting and opposing flows.A linear stability analysis is performed showing that one solution is stable and the other solution is not *** notice that the mixed convection and velocity slip parameters have strong effects on the flow *** effects are depicted in graphs and discussed in this *** obtained results show that the first-order and second-order slip parameters have a considerable effect on the flow,as well as on the heat transfer characteristics.

Inocula selection in microbial fuel cells based on anodic biofilm abundance of Geobacter sulfurreducens

Microbial fuel cells （MFCs） rely on microbial conversion of organic substrates to electricity. The optimal perfor- mance depends on the establishment of a microbial community rich in electrogenic bacteria. Usually this micro- bial community is established from inoculation of the MFC anode chamber with naturally occurring mixed inocula. In this study, the electrochemical performance of MFCs and microbial community evolution were eval- uated for three inocula including domestic wastewater （DW）, lake sediment （LS） and biogas sludge （BS） with varying substrate loading （Lsub） and external resistance （Rext） on the MFC. The electrogenic bacterium Geobacter sulfurreducens was identified in all inocula and its abundance during MFC operation was positively linked to the MFC performance. The IS inoculated MFCs showed highest abundance （18% ± 1%） of G. sulfurreducens, maximum current density [Imax = （690 ± 30） mA.m 2] and coulombic efficiency （CE = 29% ±1%） with acetate as the substrate./max and CE increased to （1780 ± 30） mA.m-2 and 58%± 1%, respectively, after decreasing the Rext from 1000 Ωto 200 Ω, which also correlated to a higher abundance ofG. sulfurreducens （21% ±0.7%） on the MFC anodic biofilm. The data obtained contribute to understanding the microbial community response to Lsub and Roy, for of timizing electricity eneration in MFCs.

This paper offers a systematic literature review of real-time detection and classification of Power Quality Disturbances(PQDs).A particular focus is given to voltage sags and notches,as voltage sags cause huge economic losses while research on voltage notches is still very incipient.A systematic method based on scientometrics,text similarity and the analytic hierarchy process is proposed to structure the review and select the most relevant literature.A biblio-metric analysis is then performed on the bibliographic data of the literature to identify relevant statistics such as the evolution of publications over time,top publishing countries,and the distribution by relevant topics.A set of articles is subsequently selected to be critically *** critical review is structured in steps for real-time detection and classification of PQDs,namely,input data preparation,preprocessing,transformation,feature extraction,feature selec-tion,detection,classification,and *** associated with the type of disturbance(s)addressed in the literature are also explored throughout the review,including the perspectives of those studies aimed at multiple PQDs,or specifically focused on voltage sags or voltage *** real-time performance of the reviewed tools is also ***,unsolved issues are discussed,and prospects are highlighted.
