Clinical outcomes of patterned laser trabeculoplasty as adjuvant therapy in open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension

AIM： To assess the efficacy and safety of patterned laser trabeculoplasty（PLT） as an adjunctive treatment in open angle glaucoma（oAG） or ocular hypertension（oHT） patients who were under antiglaucoma medical ***： This study was a retrospective review of primary or secondary oAG patients and oHT patients with medically uncontrolled（≥18 mm Hg） intraocular pressure（IoP） who underwent 360o PLT from June 2016 to August 2016. Follow-up visits at week 1, and 1, 3 and 6 mo were performed. IoP, best corrected visual acuity（BCVA）, complications and eye drop glaucoma medication were recorded at each follow-up visit. Success was defined as IoP reduction ≥20% from baseline. RESULTS： Forty-one eyes of 25 patients were included in this study. Pre-treatment mean IoP was 20.2±1.6 mm Hg. After PLT, IoP was 19.3±5.2, 16.1±2.7, 17.1±3.7 and 16.3±3.5 mm Hg,at 1 wk, 1, 3 and 6 mo, respectively. IoP reduction from baseline was statistically significant from the first month, remaining stable at 6 mo（P〈0.001）. PLT success at 6 mo of follow-up was 48.78%. The number of glaucoma medication per eye（P=0.10） and the mean BCVA both remained constant（P=0.37）. Complications included transient IoP spikes in 4 eyes（9.8%） and peripheral anterior synechiae in 7 eyes（17.1%）. CoNCLUSIoN： PLT is an effective and safe method for the management of patients with oHT or oAG as an adjunctive therapy. Additional larger studies should be designed to verify the long-term stability of IoP reduction with this laser technology.

Re-folded structure of syn-orogenic granitoids(Padrón dome, NW Iberia):Assessing rheological evolution of cooling continental crust in a collisional setting

This contribution discusses about the rheological, kinematic and dynamic frameworks necessary to produce recumbent and upright folds from syn-orogenic granitic massifs that were formed during an early stage of magma genesis related to the onset of a migmatitic dome. Syn-kinematic granitoids occurring within the high-grade infrastructure of the Padron migmatitic dome(NW Iberia) are deformed into largescale recumbent folds(D_2) that are later affected by upright folds(D_3). Petrostructural analysis of a selected area of this dome reveals that after a period of crustal thickening(D_1), NNW-directed extensional flow gave way to recumbent folds and penetrative axial plane foliation(S_2). Superimposed subhorizontal compression resulted in upright folds(D_3). A closer view into the dynamics of the dome allows exploring the factors that may condition the nucleation of folds with contrasting geometries during progressive deformation of molten continental crust. The formation of folds affecting syn-kinematic granitoids suggests a cooling metamorphic path in migmatitic domes. Active and passive folding mechanisms require a crystallizing(cooling) magma to nucleate folds. A more competent metamorphic host inhibits fold nucleation from much less competent magmas. As it crystallizes, magma becomes more rigid(competent),and approaches viscosity values of its host. Passive folding is favored when no significant competence contrast exists between magma and host, so this folding mechanism is more likely shortly after magma genesis and emplacement. In such conditions, and under dominant subhorizontal flow accompanied by flattening(D_2),passive folding would produce isoclinal recumbent geometries. Further magma cooling introduces a shift into the rheological behavior of partially molten crust. The control program of codling moth （Cydia pomonella L.） in the Rio Negro and Neuqu6n Valley is intended to neonate larvae. However, adults may be subjected to sublethal pesticide concentrations generating stress which might enhance both mutation rates and activity of the detoxification system. This study assessed the exposure effects of chlorpyrifos on target enzyme and, both detoxifying and antioxidant systems of surviving adults from both a laboratory susceptible strain （LSS） and a field population （FP）. The results showed that the FP was as susceptible to chlorpyrifos as the LSS and, both exhibited a similar chlorpyrifos-inhibitory concentration 50 （IC50） of acetylcholinesterase （ACHE）. The FP displayed higher carboxylesterase （CarE） and 7-ethoxycoumarine o-deethylase （ECoD） activities than LSS. Both LSS and FP showed an increase on CarE activity after the exposure to low-chlorpyrifos concentrations, followed by enzyme inhibition at higher concentrations. There were no significant differences neither in the activities of glutathione S-transferases （GST）, catalase （CAT） and superoxide dismutase （SoD） nor in the reduced glutathione （GSH） content between LSS and FP. Moreover, these enzymes were unaffected by chlorpyrifos. In conclusion, control adults from the FP exhibited higher CarE and ECoD activities than control adults from the LSS. AChE and CarE activities were the most affected by chlorpyrifos. Control strategies used for C. pomonella, such as rotations of insecticides with different modes of action, will probably delay the evolution of insecticide resistance in FPs from the study area.

ong>Background: ong>Pre-clinical and clinical studies have shown that inflammatory pain intensity is increased under diabetes condition. open cholecystectomy (oC) is a surgical procedure with predictable postoperative pain. However, the comparison of postoperative pain due to open cholecystectomy in diabetic and non-diabetic patients remains unknown. The research question to answer was whether diabetic patients undergoing oC development greater intensity of postoperative pain than non-diabetic patients. ong>Methods: ong>The study was conducted between June 2016 and February 2018 at the Regional Hospital of High Specialty “Dr. Juan Graham Casasús” of Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico. Seventy patients in two groups of 35 patients each scheduled for oC under general anesthesia were studied. Pain was assessed using the 11-point numerical rating scale (NRS). The primary endpoint was to know NRS pain scores after awaking of general anesthesia. Secondary outcomes included the time of onset of pain and comparing NRS scores between diabetic and non-diabetic patients undergoing oC. ong>Results:ong> Diabetic patients reported significantly greater intensity pain than non-diabetic patients. The mean overall pain score in the diabetic and non-diabetic patients was 7.2 ± 0.3 and 5.3 ± 0.3 (P = 0.0002), respectively. Furthermore, 60% of diabetic patients had severe pain (NRS ≥ 8) compared to 20% of non-diabetics (P = 0.006). The time to onset postoperative pain was about 35 minutes in both groups (P = 0.876). ong>Conclusions:ong> Diabetic patients undergoing oC have greater intensity postoperative pain and also more frequency of patients with severe pain scores compared with non-diabetic patients. Therefore, analgesic treatment in those patients should consider this point in order to provide a satisfactory postoperative analgesia.

Leaf wetness duration(LWD)is a critical parameter used to predict plant disease,but its determination under actual field conditions is a major *** this study,a method for determining LWD using thermal infrared imaging was developed and applied to cucumber plants grown in a solar *** images of the plant leaves were captured using an infrared scanning camera,and a leaf wetness area segmentation method consisting of two procedures was ***,a color space conversion was performed automatically by an image-processing ***,the K-means clustering algorithm was applied to enable the segmentation of the wetness area on the thermal ***,to enable overall thermal image analysis,an initial leaf wetness threshold(LWT)of 5%was defined(where wetness values higher than 5%indicated that the leaf was in a wet state).The results of comparative experiments conducted using thermal images of plant leaves captured using an infrared scanning camera and human visual observation indicated that the estimated LWD values were generally higher than the observed LWD values,because slight leaf wetness condensations were overlooked by the human eye but detected by the infrared scanning *** these differences were not found to be statistically significant in this study,the proposed method for determining LWD using thermal infrared imaging may provide a new LWD detection method for cucumber and other plants grown in solar greenhouses.

Estimating the global position of a road vehicle without using GPS is a challenge that many scientists look forward to solving in the near future. Normally, inertial and odometry sensors are used to complement GPS measures in an attempt to provide a means for maintaining vehicle odometry during GPS outage. Nonetheless, recent experiments have demonstrated that computer vision can also be used as a valuable source to provide what can be denoted as visual odometry. For this purpose, vehicle motion can be estimated using a non-linear, photogrametric approach based on RAndom SAmple Consensus (RANSAC). The results prove that the detection and selection of relevant feature points is a crucial factor in the global performance of the visual odometry algorithm. The key issues for further improvement are discussed in this letter.

在南卡罗来纳州大西洋沿海平原能源部的Savannah河试验场,在一个处理放射性废料大罐(直径27m)的下面,曾进行井间地震和连续记录地震测量。我们使用该资料勾划低速带(软物质)并进行井间黏土层连通性成像。在综合了岩心和测井曲线资料的井间地震层析图像上所给出的低速带,揭示了150ft～180ft之间(46m～55m)该区域的软物质,在井间地震剖面深度为180ft(55m)处观测到的反射波对应于这个低速带的底界面。这个反射与软物质和较硬的Tinker组之间的阻抗差异相符。该软物质的低速带指示出碳酸盐岩组(它是Utley石灰岩的一部分)的溶蚀边缘和Griffins Landing段疏松砂岩的存在。射线追踪和共震源地震记录表明Utley石灰岩的坚硬部分横向扩展到检波器井西边大约12.5ft(4m)。连续记录资料展示了140ft～150ft(43m～46m)之间区域里的漏泄波和简正波。漏泄波和简正波计算出的群速度等值线与基于测井和井间地震资料的波导模型是一致的。这就说明Griffins Landing段内低速的褐色黏土(隔水层组)

Variations of oCT measurements corrected for the magnification effect according to axial length and refractive error in children

Purpose:The aim of this paper was to examine the distribution of macular,retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)thickness and optic disc parameters of myopic and hyperopic eyes in comparison withemmetropic control eyes and to investigate their variation according to axial length(AL)andspherical equivalent(SE)in healthy ***:This study included 293 pairs of eyes of 293children(145 boys and 148 girks),ranging in age from 6 to 17 years,Subjects were dividedaccording to SE in control(emmetropia,99 children),myopia(100 children)and hyperopia(94children)groups and according to axial AL in 68 short(om≥22.00 mmto 25.00 mm,189)and long eyes(>25.00 mm,36).Macular parameters,RNFL thickness and opticdisc morphology were assessed by the Cirrus^(TM) *** was measured using the ***'s formula was used for calculating the corrected AL-related ocular *** Mean age(±SD)was 10.84±3.05 years;mean(±SD)SE was+0.14±0.51 D(range from8.75 to+8.25 D)and mean AL(±SD)was 23.12±*** RNFL thickness,averagemacular thickness and macular volume decreased as AL and myopia *** correlationsbetween AL/SE and optic disc parameters were found after correcting for magnification ***:AL and refractive error affect measurements of macular and RNFL thickness inhealthy *** make a correct interpretation of ocT measurements,ocular magnificationeffect should be taken into account by clinicians or oCT manufacturers.
