In situ renewable energy production is a favourable alternative for reducing pollu-tion and combating climate *** research area,Cuenca,Ecuador,is located in the Andes near the equator with optimal conditions for energy self-supply due to its low energy demands and low levels of irradiation *** this study,tem-porary fluctuations in consumption based on 2016 electricity consumption data are *** GIS,available roofing polygons are obtained,and the amount of usable solar radiation is estimated based on these *** available surface,orientation,and inclination information,electricity generation based on photovoltaic performance is estimated and compared for monocrystalline silica panels and pho-tovoltaic solar roof tiles,which are architectural alternatives.A potential net supply of 148%is found for monocrystalline silica photovoltaic panels in a typical format,whereas that of photovoltaic tiles is only 61%.In addition,production-demand imbalances are predicted in extreme months and average months and on extreme days due to variations in irradiation and demands.

Simulation of Biogas Production from Solid organic Wastes

The design and building of new alternative fuel plants is an increasing necessity to replace old technology and non-renewable fossil fuels. To optimize the performance of these plants and to obtain an economically feasible production of these types of fuels, it is necessary to have a total control of each variable involved in the process of production and how these factors affect the yield of fuel production. In this paper it is proposed a model of a digester to generate gas using a Vensim software designed to generate simulations in dynamic state. This simulation was developed using differential equations to model the behavior at each stage of the process and auxiliary conditions to complement the mathematical description of the model. The main factors in the biogas production are the retention time and the methanogen mortality ratio. For retention time lower than 10 h the process loses effectiveness due to bacterial growth is not completed efficiently, but a high retention time involves a bigger reactor and the yield of production decreases considerably for retention time higher than 40 h. The best yields were obtained for a mortality ratio in methanogen and acidogenic bacteria lower than 0.2 and a retention time of 30 h with a final production of 3.33 L by each kilogram of biomass.

Effects of Silver Addition in Zinc oxide Nanoparticles on Films of HMSPP/SEBS against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli Contamination

In this research we decided to analyze the addition of silver(Ag°)on zinc oxide(Zno)utilizing two nanoparticles:the synthesized zinc oxide-doped-silver nanoparticles(Zno/Ag_Lab)utilizing the zinc nitrate as metal precursor for Zno and silver nitrate as metal precursor for Ag°;and the commercial nanoparticle Zno/*** the study of application of the nanoparticles,they were processed in the form of films and the polymer utilized was the blend of HMSPP(high melt strength polypropylene)and styrene-ethylene/*** the study of nanoparticles,they were submitted to biocide tests against Staphylococcus aureus(ATCC 6538)and Escherichia coli(ATCC8739)and XRD(X-Ray Diffraction).The XRD analysis results indicated,in both of nanoparticles,with the presence of wurtzite phase of Zno,being that on the commercial nanoparticles the intensity of peak was higher than that of synthesized one,on other hand,the peaks attributed to Ag°,were more intense in the synthesized nanoparticle.

Variation of Density and Biomass of the Ichthyofauna Associated to Soft Bottoms of a Western Coastal Lagoon of B.C.S., Mexico

An analysis of the variation of the density and biomass of the fish communities of the lagoon of La Paz, Mexico was carried out from November 2016 to September 2017. A total of 2763 organisms were collected with a total biomass of 211,422.93 g in an area of 5022 m2, a density and biomass of 0.550 lnd/m2 and 44.091 g/m2. The site with the largest biomass was recorded in Zacatecas (11.179 g/m2) located north of the lagoon, while Grand Plaza recorded the lowest biomass (2.732 g/m2). Regarding the density, the maximum value was recorded in the site Yate Hundido, located northwest of the lagoon (0.129 lnd/m2) and the lowest was Las Palmas (0.036 lnd/m2) located north of the lagoon. The most abundant species was Diapterus peruvianus with 683 individuals and a biomass of 37,507.57 g. The physicochemical variables showed two seasons with significant change where we can observe higher temperatures in the summer (average of 27.45°C) and minimum in winter (average of 22.49°C). The Shannon-Weaver diversity index showed a difference (p = 0.050) between months, with the highest value recorded in April (H' = 2.133 bits/ind) and the lowest in June (H'ormal;">ont-family:;" "=""> = 1.041 bits/ind). The biomass and density values recorded in the lagoon were found to be associated with the spatio-temporal variation of temperature of the lagoon, as well as the resident and transitory species located in the area of study. Estimation of Timber Production of Five Species of the Tamaulipas Thorny Shrubs Growing in Native Stands and Plantations

Shrub species have a great capacity to develop in extreme climatic conditions;this ability has a direct influence on their development and productivity in timber and firewood. In this paper, the timber’s production of experimental plantation aged 28 years of Acacia berlandieri (Benth.), Havardia pallens (Benth.) Britton & Rose, Helietta parvifolia (Gray) Benth., Ebenopsis ebano (Berl.) Barneby and Acacia wrightii (Benth.) species is quantified and compared with the production of the same species developed naturally in the native bush. The variables recorded were the number of shoots per tree, total height, basal diameter and diameter at breast height of each tree to determine the volume of wood with the Smalian equation. The results indicate that the volume of usable wood was higher in experimental plantation than that on native vegetation for H. parvifolia, A. berlandieri and H. pallens. The species that produced the highest volume of timber were H. parvifolia (0.396 m3·ha-1·year-1) in plantations and E. ebano (0.118 m3·ha-1·year-1) in native shrubs, species with lower production were H. pallens (0.059 m3·ha-1·year-1) and A. berlandieri (0.052 m3·ha-1·year-1) in the native area. The highest number of shoots was registered for A. berlandieri and H. parvifolia, with eight shoots per tree in experimental plantations of both species compared with native vegetation, which was five and three shoots per tree respectively. These results high-light the importance of developing plantations in degraded areas of scrub, which can increase timber volume production.

Laccases stabilization with phosphatidylcholine liposomes

In recent years, there has been an upsurge of interest in enzyme treatment of textile fibres. Enzymes are globular proteins whose catalytic function is due to their three dimensional structure. For this reason, stability strategies make use of compounds that avoid dismantling or distorting protein 3D structures. This study is concerned with the use of microencapsulation techniques to optimize enzyme stabilization. Laccases were embedded in phophatidylcholine liposomes and their encapsulation capacity was assessed. Their enzymatic activity and stability were analyzed, comparing free-enzymes, enzymes in liposomes, and the lipid fraction separated from the aqueous fraction. An increase in their encapsulation efficiency was found at higher lipid/laccase ratios. Relative activity of enzyme-containing vesicles has also been shown to be retained much more than that of free native enzymes. The loss of activity of laccases entrapped in the vesicles in the total stability process is lower than 10% compared with 40% to 60% of loss of free-laccases after heating the samples for 3 days. Laccase stabilization could be of interest to future textile or cosmetic applications because of their potential for environmentally friendly oxidation technologies.

The Knowledge of Antibiotics in Veternary Students and Repercution in Human Health

The concept of single health is currently undoubtedly one of the most relevant in pandemic times, where humans and animals are together in the same world. Penicillin was discovered in the last century by Alexander Fleming, used against infectious agents mainly of bacterial types, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium, Streptococcus, Brucella and Mycobacterium are examples of cattle pathogens. The bacteria have developed defense mechanisms allowing them to survive in the host cell (mutation) even in the presence of antimicrobials (bacterial selection). The aim of the study was to examine the degree of knowledge of antibiotics through a structured survey of ten questions, addressed to eighty-six students from the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics in 2019. Based on the information collected and after analyzing their answers, 63.14% of the students work in Clinics and Universities, 89.47% recognize the need for a quantified prescription, 47.36% mentioned that the Veterinary Medicine can prescribe antimicrobials, 52.63% support the use of antimicrobials for all microorganisms including viruses, 52.63% use the labeling to consult the withdrawal time and 100% identify that it is the withdrawal time and the practices that lead to the development of antimicrobial resistance. It is concluded that most of the students identify malpractice as the trigger for bacterial resistance, however their knowledge is not adequate to avoid antibiotic resistance to humans. It is recommended to reinforce the courses of microbiology, pharmacology and virology in the Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics degree, as well as to be updated on alternatives such as the use of phytobiotics.
