Clinical importance and surgical decision-making regarding proximal resection margin for gastric cancer

We discuss the thermodynamic properties of a modified Ros.n-Morse potential us.ng the q-deformed superstatistics approaches. We obtain the partition function with the help of the generalized Boltzmann factor from the modified Dirac delta distribution and uniform distribution. Other thermodynamic function is obtained for the superstatistics of the two distributions considered. We also discuss our results graphically and obtain the ordinary statistical quantities when the deformation parameter tends to zero.

The incompressible unsteady Reynolds-averaged navier-stokes(URAns)simulations are performed for a free-running container ship in maneuvering conditions:the starboard and portside turning circle simulations with 35°rudder *** validation variables include trajectory,motions,and propeller performances,and the prediction shows acceptable agreements against the experimental *** the steady-state part of the turning,the inertial forces balancing the local forces are reported to quantitatively assess the centrifugal force which appears from the force equilibrium between the rudder,propeller,and the *** study on the local flow focuses on finding the correlations between the propeller inflow and the propeller performance to investigate the differences in propeller performances during the portside and starboard *** preliminary simulations,performed with the grid triplet,comprise propeller open-water,resistance,and self-propulsion simulations,from which the validation studies and the studies for the local force and the local flow are fulfilled and applied for the main *** propeller and rudder are fully discretized and controlled,mimicking the ***-set,overset approach and Mentor’s ssT model are employed for the free-surface capturing,large motion prediction,and turbulence closure.

Urgent ERCP for acute cholangitis reduces mortality and hospital stay in elderly and very elderly patients

BACKGROUnD： Acute cholangitis in old people is a cause of mortality and prolonged hospital stay. We evaluated the effects of methods and timing of biliary drainage on the outcomes of acute cholangitis in elderly and very elderly patients. METHODs： We analyzed 331 patients who were older than 75 years and were diagnosed with acute calculous cholangitis. They were admitted to our hospital from 2009 to 2014. Patients＇ demographics, severity grading, methods and timing of biliary drainage, mortality, and hospital stay were retrospectively obtained from medical records. Clinical parameters and outcomes were compared between elderly （75-80 years, n= 156） and very elderly （≥81 years, n=175） patients. We analyzed the effects of methods [none, endoscopic retrograde cholangio- pancreatography （ERCP）, percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage, or failure] and timing （urgent or early） of biliary drainage on mortality and hospital stay in these patients. REsULTs： Acute cholangitis in older patients manifested as atypical symptoms characterized as infrequent Charcot＇s triad （4.2%） and comorbidity in one-third of the patients. Patients were graded as mild, moderate, and severe cholangitis in 104 （31.4%）, 175 （52.9%）, and 52 （15.7%）, respectively. Urgent bili-ary drainage （≤24 hours） was performed for 80.5% （247/307） of patients. Very elderly patients tended to have more severe grades and were treated with sequential procedures of transient hiliary drainage and stone removal at different sessions. Hospital stay was related to methods and timing of biliary drainage. Mortality was very low （1.5%） and not related to patient age but rather to the success or failure of biliary drainage and severity grading of the acute cholangitis. COnCLUsIOns： The methods and timing used for biliary drainage and severity of cholangitis are the major determinants of mortality and hospital stay in elderly and very elderly patients with acute cholangitis. Characterization of flexible copper laminates fabricated by Cu electro-plating process

Gastric inverted hyperplastic polyp: A rare cause of iron deficiency anemia

Gastric inverted hyperplastic polyp(IHP) is a rare gastric polyp characterized by the downward growth of hyperplastic mucosal components into the submucosal layer. Macroscopically, a gastric IHP resembles a subepithelial tumor(sET); as a result, accurately diagnos.ng gastric IHP is difficult. This issue has clinical significance because gastric IHP can be misdiagnosed as sET or as malignant neoplasm In addition, adenocarcinoma can accompany benign gastric IHP. Although in most cases, gastric IHPs are asymptomatic and are found incidentally, these polyps may cause anemia secondary to chronic bleeding. Here, we report one case involving gastric IHP accompanied by chronic iron deficiency anemia that was successfully managed us.ng endoscopic submucosal dissection.

Proinflammatory cytokine TnFα promotes HPV-associated oral carcinogenesis by increas.ng cancer stemness

High-risk human papillomaviruses(HPVs) are involved in the development of several human cancers, including oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas. However, many studies have demonstrated that HPV alone is.not sufficient for the oncogenic transformation of normal human epithelial cells, indicating that additional cofactors are required for the oncogenic conversion of HPV-infected cells. Inasmuch as chronic inflammation is also closely associated with carcinogenesis, we investigated the effect of chronic exposure to tumor necrosis factor α(TnFα), the major proinflammatory cytokine, on oncogenesis in two immortalized oral keratinocyte cell lines, namely, HPV16-immortalized and human telomerase reverse transcriptase(h TERT)-immortalized cells. TnFαtreatment led to the acquisition of malignant growth properties in HPV16-immortalized cells, such as(1) calcium resistance,(2)anchorage independence, and(3) increased cell proliferation in vivo. Moreover, TnFα increased the cancer stem cell-like population and stemness phenotype in HPV16-immortalized cells. However, such transforming effects were not observed in h TERTimmortalized cells, suggesting an HPV-specific role in TnFα-promoted oncogenesis. We also generated h TERT-immortalized cells that express HPV16 E6 and E7. Chronic TnFα exposure successfully induced the malignant growth and stemness phenotype in the E6-express.ng cells but not in the control and E7-express.ng cells. We further demonstrated that HPV16 E6 played a key role in TnFα-induced cancer stemness via suppression of the stemness-inhibiting micro RnAs mi R-203 and mi R-200 c. Overexpression of mi R-203 and mi R-200 c suppressed cancer stemness in TnFα-treated HPV16-immortalized cells. Overall, our study suggests that chronic inflammation promotes cancer stemness in HPV-infected cells, thereby promoting HPV-associated oral carcinogenesis.
