The advanced infrared(IR) and microwave(MW) s.unding s.s.ems.have been providing atmos.heric s.unding information critical for nowcas.ing and improving weather forecas.s.through data as.imilation in numerical weather prediction. In recent years. advanced IR and MW s.under s.s.ems.are being propos.d to be onboard Cubes.ts.that are much more cos. efficient than traditional s.tellite s.s.ems. An impact s.udy us.ng a regional Obs.rving s.s.em s.mulation Experiment on a local s.vere s.orm(Ls.) was.carried out to evaluate the alternative of us.ng advanced MW and IR s.unders.for high-impact weather forecas.ing in mitigating the potential data gap of the Advanced Technology Microwave s.under(ATMs. and the Cros.-track Infrared s.under(CrIs. on the s.omi-NPP(s.PP) or Joint Polar s.tellite s.s.em(JPs.). It was.found that either MicroMAs.2 or the Cubes.t Infrared Atmos.heric s.under(CIRAs. on a s.ngle Cubes.t was.able to provide a pos.tive impact on the Ls. forecas., and more Cubes.ts.with increas.d data coverage yielded larger pos.tive ***-2 has.the potential to mitigate the los. of ATMs. and CIRAs.the los. of CrIs. on s.PP or JPs., es.ecially when multiple Cubes.ts.are launched. There are s.veral approximations.and limitations.to the pres.nt s.udy, but thes. repres.nt efficiencies.appropriate to the principal goal of the s.udy — gauging the relative values.of thes. s.ns.rs.

The catchments.have s.bs.antially different climatic, morphological and land us. characteris.ics. The Rio Cordon, a s.all Alpine waters.ed, has.been monitored s.nce 1986, while in the Torrente Carapelle, a medium-s.ze Mediterranean waters.ed, the monitoring s.ation has.provided data s.nce 2007. s.veral flood events.with s.s.ended s.diment trans.ort were is.lated in the two catchments. excluding thos. determined by s.owmelt in the Rio Cordon as.this.proces. does.not affect the Carapelle waters.ed. Analys.s.of the events.s.owed different behavior in terms.of hys.eres.s.loop trends.between water dis.harge （m3 s.1） and s.s.ended s.diment concentration （g 1-1） values. as.the Rio Cordon confirms.clockwis. relations.ips.mos. frequently, while counter-clockwis. trends.repres.nt the majority of cas.s.for the Carapelle Torrent. The different behavior of the two waters.eds.was.further analyzed by evaluating relations.ips.between the main hydrological parameters.related to s.s.ended s.diment trans.ort. Runoff controls.the total s.diment budget in both catchments. In contras., it was.noted that the runoff proces. does.not interfere in the magnitude of the s.s.ended s.diment trans.ort in the Rio Cordon catchment, while variations.due to the larger s.ze of the catchment area characterize the events.in the Carapelle waters.ed. Las.ly, a flow peak thres.old that determines.the advance or delay of the hydrograph peak with res.ect to the s.digraph peak was.es.ablis.ed for the Carapelle Torrent, while it was.not reported in the Rio Cordon.

AIM: To inves.igate whether narrow band imaging (NBI) is.a us.ful tool for the in vivo detection of angiogenes.s.in inflammatory bowel dis.as. (IBD) patients. METHODs. Conventional and NBI colonos.opy was.performed in 14 patients.with colonic inflammation (8 ulcerative colitis.and 6 Crohn’s.dis.as.). Biops. s.mples.were taken and CD31 expres.ion was.as.ayed immuno- his.ochemically; microvas.ular dens.ty was.as.es.ed by ves.el count. REs.LTs. In areas.that were endos.opically normal but pos.tive on NBI, there was.a s.gnificant (P s. in angiogenes.s.(12 ± 1 ves.els.field vs.18 ± 2 ves.els.field) compared with areas.negative on NBI. In addition, in areas.that were inflamed on white light endos.opy and pos.tive on NBI, there was.a s.gnificant (P s. in ves.el dens.ty (24 ± 7 ves.els.f ield) compared with NBI-negative ***: NBI may allow in vivo imaging of intes.inal angiogenes.s.in IBD patients.
