Background:Informed consent has medicolegal implications and is imperative in presentday medical *** and Objectives:The objectives of this study were to estimate the awareness regarding informed consent in interns and to determine the effectiveness of sessions in interns’orientation programs about informed *** and Methods:pretest-posttest study was conducted with a validated questionnaire distributed through Google Forms to interns attending the orientation program at our *** were recorded on the Likert scale(−2 to+2).paired t-test was used to compare the mean pretest and posttest *** number of interns with a positive score(+1,+2)for every question in pretest and posttest were also ***:One hundred and seventyone out of 232 interns who attended the program submitted both pretest and posttest *** the pretest,12 interns scoreds scored more than 75%.A significant increase in posttest responses was seen in the mean score(pstions related to consent in research,radiological investigations,regarding the need for consent in the additional nonlifesaving *** was an increase in the number of interns having a positive score(+1,+2)for all the questions in posttest as compared to pretest,but a statistically significant increase was seen in questions related to consent in ultrasound and need for consent in the additional nonlifesaving ***:A wellstructured interns’orientation program is effective in improving awareness regarding *** gaps in knowledge regarding various aspects of consent need to be emphasized.

Nanosized complex fluorides based on Eu^(3+) doped sr_2LnF_7(Ln=La, Gd)

A simple co-precipitation approach taking place between Ln3＋, sr2＋ cations and F anions, led to the formation of nanocrystalline Eu3＋ doped sr2LnF7 （Ln-La and Gd） complex fluorides. The reaction was carried out in the presence of polyeth- ylene glycol, pEG 6000 as a surfactant/surface modifier, providing small size and homogeneity of the products. The synthesized compounds were composed of small nanoparticles with an average size of 15 nm. All obtained Eu3＋ doped compounds exhibited an intensive red luminescence. In the case of gadolinium based compounds, the energy transfer phenomena could be observed from Gd3＋ ions to Eu3＋ ions. In order to study the structure and morphology of the synthesized fluorides, powder X-ray diffraction （XRD） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM） measurements were performed. Also FT-IR spectra of the products were re- corded, revealing the presence of pEG molecules on the nanoparticles suN＇ace. A spectrofluorometry technique was applied to examine optical properties of the synthesized nanoparticles. Excitation and emission spectra as well as luminescence decay curves were measured and analysed. The performed analysis revealed a red luminescence, typical for the Eu3＋ ion situated in the inorganic, highly symmetric matrix. Concentration quenching phenomena and lifetimes shortening, together with an increasing of the Eu3＋ doping level, were observed and discussed. Judd-Ofelt analysis was also performed for all doped samples, in order to support the registered spectroscopic data and examine in details structural and optoelectronic properties of the synthesized nanomaterials.

Targeted protein degradation(TpD)has rapidly emerged as a therapeutic modality to eliminate previously undruggable proteins by repurposing the cell’s endogenous protein degradation ***,the susceptibility of proteins for targeting by TpD approaches,termed“degradability”,is largely ***,we developed a machine learning model,model-free analysis of protein degradability(MApD),to predict degradability from features intrinsic to protein *** shows accurate performance in predicting kinases that are degradable by TpD compounds[with an area under the precision–recall curve(AUpRC)of 0.759 and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC)of 0.775]and is likely generalizable to independent non-kinase *** found five features with statistical significance to achieve optimal prediction,with ubiquitination potential being the most *** structural modeling,we found that E2-accessible ubiquitination sites,but not lysine residues in general,are particularly associated with kinase ***,we extended MApD predictions to the entire proteome to find964 disease-causing proteins(including proteins encoded by 278 cancer genes)that may be tractable to TpD drug development.

Measuring the model risk-adjusted performance of machine learning algorithms in credit default prediction

Implementing new machine learning(ML)algorithms for credit default prediction is associated with better predictive performance;however,it also generates new model risks,particularly concerning the supervisory validation *** industry surveys often mention that uncertainty about how supervisors might assess these risks could be a barrier to *** this study,we propose a new framework to quantify model risk-adjustments to compare the performance of several ML *** address this challenge,we first harness the internal ratings-based approach to identify up to 13 risk components that we classify into 3 main categories—statistics,technology,and market ***,to evaluate the importance of each risk category,we collect a series of regulatory documents related to three potential use cases—regulatory capital,credit scoring,or provisioning—and we compute the weight of each category according to the intensity of their mentions,using natural language processing and a risk terminology based on expert ***,we test our framework using popular ML models in credit risk,and a publicly available database,to quantify some proxies of a subset of risk factors that we deem *** measure the statistical risk according to the number of hyperparameters and the stability of the *** technological risk is assessed through the transparency of the algorithm and the latency of the ML training method,while the market conduct risk is quantified by the time it takes to run a post hoc technique(sHapley Additive explanations)to interpret the output.

An Improved Reverse Auction for Addressing Water Quality in Agricultural Watersheds Using Coupled simulation-Optimization Models

As nutrients and sediment in agricultural watersheds continue to degrade water quality, attention is increasingly given to reverse auctions to cost-effectively address these pollutants. Typically, reverse auctions include a selection process which depends on both the monetary bid and a ranking of the environmental benefit, where the latter is often approximated using simple models, such as the Universal soil Loss Equation （UsLE）. When the environmental objective is to improve water quality, the cost-effectiveness of such ranking methods cannot always be assured since simple models may poorly approximate the effects on downstream water quality. In this paper, we introduce an alternative reverse auction approach that takes advantage of richer watershed process models and optimization tools that are now much more commonly available. This ＂improved＂ reverse auction allows decision-makers to better consider the cost-effective assignment of conservation practices and to address water quality or other environmental objectives. In a spatially detailed simulation, we demonstrate how this approach can improve the design of a reverse auction for the Raccoon River Watershed in Iowa, and estimate the potential gains from using the simulation-optimization approach relative to simpler ranking methods for selecting bids. We also point out that simple bid ranking schemes may not yield sufficient nutrient reductions to achieve water quality goals but bids areeasily selected to achieve any feasible water quality improvement in the ＂improved＂ auction process.

This paper carried out the applications of grey system theory to correlate asphalt compositions and heating conditions consisting of asphalt mass,heating temperatures and heating *** order to clarify the influences of the heating conditions,the asphalt compositions were determined,which included four generic components,namely asphaltenes,resins,aromatics and saturates,the total contents of asphaltenes and resins replaced by A value,the total contents of aromatics and saturates replaced by B value,and the ratio of A and *** results show that all the four generic components of the asphalt are affected obviously by different heating conditions and none of the four generic is affected by the *** component most affected by asphalt mass is the ratio of A value and B *** additionally,A value is influenced mainly by heating time while B value by heating temperature.

Hypoxia is a common phenomenon in solid tumors as the poorly organized tumor vasculature cannot fulfill the increasing oxygen demand of rapidly expanding *** hypoxia,tumor cells reshape their microenvironment to sustain survival,promote metastasis,and develop resistance to *** are extracellular vesicles secreted by most eukaryotic cells,including tumor *** are enriched with a selective collection of nucleic acids and proteins from the originating cells to mediate cell-to-cell *** evidence suggests that exosomes derived from tumor cells play critical roles in modulating the tumor microenvironment(TME).Hypoxia is known to stimulate the secretion of exosomes from tumor cells,thereby promoting intercellular communication of hypoxic tumors with the surrounding stromal ***-mediated signaling pathways under hypoxic conditions have been reported to cause angiogenesis,invasion,metastasis,drug resistance,and immune ***,the programmed cell death ligand-1(pD-L1)has been reported to reside as a transmembrane protein in tumor *** pD-L1 was shown to suppress T cell effector function in the TME and cause drug resistance to immune checkpoint *** review provides an update about the pivotal role of tumor-derived exosomes in drug resistance to chemotherapy and immunotherapy,particularly under hypoxic *** strategies that target the exosomes in the hypoxic TME to enhance the antitumor efficacy are discussed.
