Soil-plant-Microbe Interactions in Stressed Agriculture Management:A Review

The expected rise in temperature and decreased precipitation owing to climate change and unabated anthropogenic activities add complexity and uncertainty to agro-industry. The impact of soil nutrient imbalance, mismanaged use of chemicals, high temperature,flood or drought, soil salinity, and heavy metal pollutions, with regard to food security, is increasingly being explored worldwide. This review describes the role of soil-plant-microbe interactions along with organic manure in solving stressed agriculture problems. Beneficial microbes associated with plants are known to stimulate plant growth and enhance plant resistance to biotic(diseases) and abiotic(salinity, drought, pollutions, etc.) stresses. The plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria(pGpR) and mycorrhizae, a key component of soil microbiota, could play vital roles in the maintenance of plant fitness and soil health under stressed environments. The application of organic manure as a soil conditioner to stressed soils along with suitable microbial strains could further enhance the plant-microbe associations and increase the crop yield. A combination of plant, stress-tolerant microbe, and organic amendment represents the tripartite association to offer a favourable environment to the proliferation of beneficial rhizosphere microbes that in turn enhance the plant growth performance in disturbed agro-ecosystem. Agriculture land use patterns with the proper exploitation of plant-microbe associations, with compatible beneficial microbial agents, could be one of the most effective strategies in the management of the concerned agriculture lands owing to climate change resilience. However, the association of such microbes with plants for stressed agriculture management still needs to be explored in greater depth.

Optical and structural properties of highly porous shell structured Fe doped TiO_2 thin films

TiO2thin films with 0.2 wt%, 0.4 wt%, 0.6wt%, and 0.8 wt% Fe were prepared on glass and silicon substrates using sol–gel spin coating technique. The optical cut-off points are increasingly red-shifted and the absorption edge is shifted over the higher wavelength region with Fe content increasing. As Fe content increases, the optical band gap decreases from 3.03 to 2.48 eV whereas the tail width increases from 0.26 to 1.43 eV. The X-ray diffraction（XRD） patterns for doped films at 0.2 wt% and0.8 wt% Fe reveal no characteristic peaks, indicating that the film is amorphous whereas undoped TiO2exhibits（101） orientation with anatase phase. Thin films of higher Fe content exhibit a homogeneous, uniform, and nanostructured highly porous shell morphology.

Can non-standard recombination resolve the Hubble tension?

The inconsistent Hubble constant values derived from cosmic microwave background(CMB) observations and from local distance-ladder measurements may suggest new physics beyond the standard ΛCDM paradigm. It has been found in earlier studies that, at least phenomenologically, non-standard recombination histories can reduce the ≥4σ Hubble tension to ~ 2σ.Following this path, we vary physical and phenomenological parameters in RECFAST, the standard code to compute ionization history of the universe, to explore possible physics beyond standard recombination. We find that the CMB constraint on the Hubble constant is sensitive to the hydrogen ionization energy and 2 s → 1 s two-photon decay rate, both of which are atomic constants, and is insensitive to other details of recombination. Thus, the Hubble tension is very robust against perturbations of recombination history, unless exotic physics modifies the atomic constants during the recombination epoch.

Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene/ITO Nanoparticle Hybrid Transparent Conducting Electrode

The combination of graphene with conductive nanoparticles, forming graphene–nanoparticle hybrid materials, offers a number of excellent properties for advanced engineering applications. A novel and simple method was developed to deposit 10 wt% tin-doped indium tin oxide(ITO) nanoparticles on graphene. The method involved a combination of a solution-based environmentally friendly electroless deposition approach and subsequent vacuum annealing. A stable organic-free solution of ITO was prepared from economical salts of In(NO_3)_3H_2 O and SnCl_4. The obtained ITO nanostructure exhibited a unique architecture, with uniformly dispersed 25–35 nm size ITO nanoparticles, containing only the crystallized In_2O_3 phase. The synthesized ITO nanoparticles–graphene hybrid exhibited very good and reproducible optical transparency in the visible range(more than 85%) and a28.2% improvement in electrical conductivity relative to graphene synthesized by chemical vapor deposition. It was observed that the ITO nanoparticles affect the position of the Raman signal of graphene, in which the D, G, and 2 D peaks were redshifted by 5.65, 5.69, and 9.74 cm^(-1),respectively, and the annealing conditions had no significant effect on the Raman signatures of graphene.

Use of tricortical iliac crest strut autograft in comminuted posterior wall acetabular fractures： A case series

OBJECTIVE:The results for fixation of comminuted posterior wall acetabular fractures are not very promising with reported complications in terms of osteoarthritis, nonunion and malunion which subsequently require conversion to total hip arthroplasty. The conversion to total hip arthroplasty is possible in patients over 50 years of age but not in younger patients. So this requires new methods for salvage of the native hip in young patients.;METHODS:There were six patients in our series with highly comminuted posterior wall acetabular fractures where the fragments were excised and the gap filled with tricortical anterior iliac-crest strut autograft, fixed with screws and plate.;RESULTS:Good results were achieved in four out of six patients analyzed clinically using the Merle d'Aubinge score modified by Matta and radiologically by Matta scoring. These patients have returned to original work and are walking independently. The good result in one patient deteriorated from good to poor between one and two years. One patient developed infection and excision arthroplasty was done. The graft incorporated well in five out of six patients.;CONCLUSIONS:The use of iliac crest autograft is a better, advanced and promising technique as it provides a new wall to the weight bearing dome of the acetabulum for articulation with the femoral head. The rates of nonunion, malunion, post traumatic osteoarthritis are less as compared to the fixation of the comminuted fragments. The need for conversion to total hip arthroplasty is also less.

Effect of Fuel to Oxidant Molar Ratio on Structural and DC Electrical Conductivity of ZnO Nanoparticles prepared by Simple Solution Combustion Method

ZnO nanoparticles of different sizes were prepared by varying the molar ratio of glycine and zinc nitrate hexahydrate as fuel and oxidizer （0.1, 0.8, 1.11, 1.3, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0） by simple solution combustion method. UV-Visible spectrophotometry studies show that, the band gap of the prepared ZnO nanoparticles increases with increasing fuel to oxidant （F/O） molar ratio up to 1.7 revealing the formation of ZnO nanoparticles. The decrease in band gap for the sample of F/O molar ratio 2.0 is due to an increase in particle size. powder X-ray diffraction patterns of the prepared samples show the formation of single phase ZnO nanoparticles and the particle size decreases with increasing F/O molar ratio up to 1.7. Surface morphology of the prepared samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy and it was observed that, the porosity increases with increasing F/O molar ratio. DC electrical conductivity at room temperature and in the temperature range of 303-563 K was studied for all the samples and the results revealed that, the sample of F/O molar ratio 1.7 has low electrical conductivity at room temperature and high EAR （high temperature activation energy） compared to other samples.

The current mathematical model explains the influence of non-linear thermal radiation on the Casson liquid flow over a moving thin needle by considering Buongiorno’s nanofluid *** influences of Stefan blowing,Dufour and Soret effects are also considered in the *** equations which represent the described flow pattern are reduced to ordinary differential equations(ODEs)by using apt similarity transformations and then they are numerically solved with Runge–Kutta-Fehlberg’s fourth fifth-order method(RKF-45)with shooting *** impacts of pertinent parameters on thermal,mass and velocity curves are deliberated *** friction,rate of heat and mass transfer are also discussed *** reveal that,the increase in values of Brownian motion,thermophoresis,Dufour number,heating and radiative parameters improves the heat *** increasing values of the Schmidt number deteriorates the mass transfer but a converse trend is seen for increasing values of the Soret ***,the escalating values of the radiative parameter decays the rate of heat transfer.

A solar reactor for bio-diesel production from pongamia oil: Studies on transesterfication process parameters and energy efficiency

Over exploitation of non-renewable energy reserves will lead to increase in price of petroleum *** there is a need for suitable and sustainable substitutes(renewable resource) for conventional *** this study,an efficient and environmental friendly method for production of bio-diesel from pongamia(Karanja) oil has been developed using a solar *** the experimental study,the maximum temperature attained by the pongamia oil during the transesterification process was 64.1℃.The transesterification reaction was studied by varying different parameters such as reactant flow rate(5-20 L·h^(-1)),stirring speed(150-450 r·min^(-1)),catalyst mass loading(0.5%-2%) and methanol to oil ratio(3:1 to15:1).The maximum biodiesel yield was 83.11% at a flow rate of 5 L·h^(-1),stirring speed of 350 r·min^(-1),a methanol to oil ratio of 15:1,catalyst mass loading of 1% and reaction time of 270 *** physical and chemical properties of biodiesel was analyzed as per American Society for Testing Materials(ASTM) standards and it had density of 938 kg·m^(-3),viscosity(28.7×10^(-6) m~2·s^(-1)),acid value(9.45 mg KOH·(g oil)^(-1))and flash point(215℃).The energy efficiency of solar heating process was determined by comparing the net energy ratio of direct heating process and solar heating *** solar heating the net energy ratio(NER) was found to be 31.85 against 5.73 for direct ***,net energy efficiency index was calculated for 10 kg production scale and was found to be increasing when scaled up which means that the solar heating process is more effective even in scaled up production.

On-time recognition and early control of the stresses in the paddy crops at the booting growth stage is the key to prevent qualitative and quantitative loss of agricultural *** conventional paddy crop stress recognition and classification activities invariably rely on human experts identifying visual symptoms as a means of *** process is admittedly subjective and error-prone,which in turn can lead to incorrect actions being taken in stress management *** work presented in this paper aims to design a deep convolutional neural network(DCNN)framework for automatic recognition and classification of various biotic and abiotic paddy crop stresses using the field *** has adopted the pre-trained VGG-16 CNN model for the automatic classification of stressed paddy crop images captured during the booting growth *** trained models achieve an average accuracy of 92.89%on the held-out dataset,demonstrating the technical feasibility of using the deep learning approach utilizing 30,000 field images of 5 different paddy crop varieties with 12 different stress categories(including healthy/normal).The proposed work finds applications in developing the decision support systems and mobile applications for automating the field crop and resource management practices.
