In the recent days, the segmentation of Liver Tumor (LT) has beendemanding and challenging. The process of segmenting the liver and accuratelyspotting the tumor is demanding due to the diversity of shape, texture, and intensity of the liver image. The intensity similarities of the neighboring organs of theliver create difficulties during liver segmentation. The manual segmentation doesnot provide an accurate segmentation because the results provided by differentmedical experts can vary. Also, this manual technique requires a large numberof image slices and time for segmentation. To solve these issues, the Fully Automatic Segmentation (FAS) technique is proposed. In this proposed Multi-AngleTexture Active Contour Model (MAT-ACM) method, the input Computed Tomography (CT) image is preprocessed by Contrast Enhancement (CE) with Non-Linear Mapping Technique (NLMT), in which the liver is differentiated from itsneighbouring soft tissues with related strength. Then, the filtered images are givenas the input to Adaptive Edge Modeling (AEM) with Canny Edge Detection(CED) technique, which segments the Liver Region (LR) from the given CTimages. An AEM with a CED model is implemented, which increases the convergence speed of the iterative process for decreasing the Volumetric Overlap Error(VOE) is 6.92% rates when compared with the traditional Segmentation Techniques (ST). Finally, the Liver Tumor Segmentation (LTS) is developed by applyingthe MAT-ACM, which accurately segments the LR from the segmented LRs. Theevaluation of the proposed method is compared with the existing LTS methodsusing various performance measures to prove the superiority of the proposedMAT-ACM method.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted pesticide application for pest and disease prevention and control in rice

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as innovative tools in agriculture, revolutionizing crop protection practices and the use of pesticide combinations to aid the management of insect pests and diseases in a single application. This research delves into assessing the efficacy of drone-based pesticide spraying utilizing combinations of pesticides to combat insect pests and diseases in rice cultivation. In kharif 2022, the physically compatible combination of insecticides (chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC and tetraniliprole 200 SC) with fungicides (picoxystrobin 7.5%+tricyclazole 22.5% SC and tebuconazole 50%+trifloxystrobin 25% WG) were administered via drones and compared with conventional Taiwan sprayer. The results indicated that tebuconazole+trifloxystrobin, when applied via drones, exhibited the highest control efficacy against the brown spot, sheath blight, and sheath rot (47.8%, 77.4%, and 75.2% respectively). Moreover, combination treatment, i.e., tetraniliprole+(tebuconazole+trifloxystrobin), applied using a drone, achieved the most effective control (78.1%) against grain discoloration. Additionally, drone-based tetraniliprole application showed effectiveness against stem borer and whorl maggot (efficacy rates of 49.1%, 66.6%, and 60.7% for dead hearts, white ear, and whorl maggot, respectively). Overall, the pesticide combination treatment, i.e., tetraniliprole+(tebuconazole+trifloxystrobin), showed higher control efficacy against all the insect pests and diseases and recorded the highest grain yield of 7995 kg/hm2 with an incremental cost-benefit ratio (ICBR) of (1:5.63) when sprayed with a drone. Overall, this study underscores the potential of drone-assisted pesticide application in effectively managing multiple insect pests and diseases in rice, offering superior precision, efficacy, efficiency, and yield.

Bismuth-based Sillen-Aurivillius compounds are being explored as efficient photocatalyst materials for the degradation of organic pollutants due to their unique layered structure that favours effective separation of electron-hole pairs. In this work, we synthesized Sillen-Aurivillius-related Bi2YO4Cl with the bandgap of 2.5 eV by a simple solid-state reaction and sensitized with rhodium nickel (RhNi) nanoparticles (Nps) to form the RhNi/Bi2YO4Cl heterostructure. photocatalytic activities of BiOCl, Bi2YO4Cl and the RhNi/Bi2YO4Cl heterostructure were examined for the degradation of rhodamine- 6G under visible-light illumination. Results demonstrated that the photocatalytic dye degradation efficiency of RhNi/Bi2YO4Cl heterostructures is higher than those of BiOCl and Bi2YO4Cl, attributed to the synergistic molecular-scale alloying effect of bimetallic RhNi Nps. The plausible mechanism for the degradation of rhodamine-6G and the effective electron-hole pair utilization mechanism were discussed.

Effect of dilution rate on dynamic and steady-state biofilm characteristics during phenol biodegradation by immobilized pseudomonas desmolyticum cells in a pulsed plate bioreactor

pulsed plate bioreactor （ppBR） is a biofilm reactor which has been proven to be very efficient in phenol biodegradation. The present paper reports the studies on the effect of dilution rate on the physical, chemical and morphological characteristics of biofilms formed by the cells of pseudomonas desmolyticum on granular activated carbon （GAC） in ppBR during biodegradation of phenol. The percentage degradation of phenol decreased from 99% to 73% with an increase in dilution rate from 0.33 h^-1 to 0.99 h^-1 showing that residence time in the reactor governs the phenol removal efficiency rather than the external mass transfer limitations. Lower dilution rates favor higher production of biomass, extracellular polymeric substances （EpS） as well as the protein, carbohydrate and humic substances content of EpS. Increase in dilution rate leads to decrease in biofilm thickness, biofilm dry density, and attached dry biomass, transforming the biofilm from dense, smooth compact structure to a rough and patchy structure. Thus, the performance of ppBR in terms of dynamic and steady-state biofilm characteristics associated with phenol biodegradation is a strong function of dilution rate. Operation of ppBR at lower dilution rates is recommended for continuous biological treatment of wastewaters for phenol removal.

pre-harvest fruit bagging influences fruit color and quality of apple cv. Delicious

An attempt was made to observe the effect of pre-harvest bagging with spun-bound fabric bags on color and quality of Delicious apple. Bagging was done about a month before harvesting and removed 3-day before harvesting. Bagged and non-bagged fruits were stored at 2℃ ± 1℃ and 90%-95% RH. Observations were recorded on color and fruit quality attributes such as total phenolics, AOX activity, fruit Ca contents, LOX activity, SSC and ascorbic acid contents at harvest and during storage. Our studies have revealed that bagged fruits have better color development (Hunter “a” = 52) than non-bagged fruits at harvest (Hunter “a” = 38), which declined slightly during storage. Similarly, at harvest, bagged fruits contained high amounts of Ca (5.38 mg/100g) and total phenolics (9.3 mg GAE/100gpulp) exhibited higher AOX activity (12.6 μmoles Trolox g-1), and had better SSC and ascorbic acid contents than non-bagged fruits, and there was a decline in all recorded parameters during storage. Bagged fruits exhibited lower LOX activity (1.38 μmoles min-1 g-1 FW) at harvest than non-bagged fruits (2.14 μmoles min-1 g-1 FW), indicating that non-bagged fruits were more senescent than bagged fruits. Further, LOX activity increased during storage both in bagged and non-bagged apples but increase in LOX activity was slower in bagged apples than in non-bagged apples.

Numerical Analysis of Stresses on Layer-by-Layer Basis in FML Composite Cylinder Subjected to External Hydrostatic Loading

The aim of the research work was to numerically investigate the residual stresses induced between the layers of fiber metal laminate (FML) cylinder (glass/epoxy reinforced aluminum laminates) under buckling hydrostatic loading. For the analysis of buckling behavior of FML cylinders, various fiber orientations such as 0/90°, 60/30°, ±45° and ±55° and different FRp thickness of 1, 2, and 3 mm were considered. The aluminum cylinder of inner diameter 80 mm, length 800 mm and wall thickness 1 mm was modeled with SHELL281 element type and a total of 1033 elements were used for computing the induced residual stresses between the layers. The results show that magnitude of residual stresses between the layers decreased along the thickness from outer layer towards the inner layer in sine wave form. The maximum residual Von-Mises stress was at inner aluminum layer while the maximum residual radial stress was at the outermost layer of FML cylinder due to the inward pressure. Among all types of FML cylinder 0/90° fiber oriented FML cylinder exhibited the least radial stress and a maximum Von-Mises stress along the FRp thickness.

A series of colossal magneto resistance (CMR) materials with compositional formula Pr0.5Sr0.5Mn1-xCrxO3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) were prepared by sol-gel technique using pure metal nitrates as the starting materials. These samples were characterized structurally by X-ray diffraction, FTIR and SEM. All the samples exhibit orthorhombic structure without any detectable impurities. The bulk densities for all the compositions were measured from the pellets. The Young’s and Rigidity moduli, Poisson’s ratio and Debye temperature of all the compositions were calculated with the experimentally measured ultrasonic longitudinal and shear velocities at room temperature using pulse transmission technique. As the materials are porous, zero porous elastic moduli have also been calculated using a well-known Hasselmann and Fulrath model. The observed variation of elastic moduli with varying chromium doping concentration has been studied qualitatively.pan>pan>
