Enthalpy of Mixing of Liquid Al-Cr and Cr-Ni Alloys

The partial and the integral enthalpies of mixing of liquid Al-Cr and Ni-Cr binary alloys have been determined by high temperature isoperibolic calorimetry at 1723±5 K and 1729±5 K, respectively. The results were analytically described by the thermodynamically adapted power series (TApS). The enthalpies of mixing values for both binary liquid melts are small and negative and in good agreement with the available literature data. Minima of the mixing enthalpies of liquid Al-Cr and Ni-Cr alloys are -7.0 kJ·mol-1 at 46 at. pct Cr and -3.0 kJ·mol-1 at 37 at. pct Cr, respectively.

Marine pollution affects all life processes in aquatic organisms. The genotoxic effect of pollution on the mussel Crenomytilus grayanus was assessed. Bivalves were collected from the ‘clean'(vostochnaya Cove) and polluted(Nakhodka Bay) areas in the peter the Great Bay. The degree of DNA damage in C. grayanus was determined by alkaline comet assay as mean percentage of DNA in tail, and the genetic damage index was calculated. Our results indicate that almost one-third of DNA in cells of gills and digestive gland of C. grayanus inhabiting the Nakhodka Bay had destructive changes compared to the individuals of this species from the vostochnaya Cove. This study has shown that chronic pollution of the aquatic environment causes destructive changes to DNA in gill and digestive gland cells of C. grayanus.

The research objectives are to assess the possibility of using drill cutting analysis to obtain information about the mineralogical and geochemical properties of the reservoir *** cutting samples were collected from a vertical well that penetrated the Domanik sediments(Semiluksk Formation)in one of the oil fields in the volga-Ural petroleum *** sections from drill cuttings were examined using an optical polarizing microscope(Axio Imager A2).X-ray diffraction(XRD)analyses were performed using a Brucker D2 phaser X-ray powder *** properties were studied using an STA 449 F3 Jupiter *** pyrolytic studies were performed using the Rock-Eval *** inspection showed that the studied sediments are alternations of carbonates and siliceous-carbonate *** section examinations revealed that the carbonates are mainly limestone(mudstone and wackestone)and are characterized by a dense texture and up to 30%organic *** siliceous-carbonate rocks are dominated by siliceous mudstones and are characterized by dark colours,layered structure,and an enrichment in organic *** analyses showed that the carbonate rocks are mainly composed of calcite,dolomite,quartz,feldspar,and mica,which are minor *** siliceous-carbonate rocks are dominated by quartz,followed by calcite,although they also contain feldspars,mica,dolomite,and pyrite as *** to the simultaneous thermal analysis,the average total hydrocarbon in the carbonate and siliceous-carbonate rocks is 13.6%(for the core samples)and 11.5%(for the drill cutting samples).The content of heavy hydrocarbons in the rocks is higher than the content of light hydrocarbons,indicating the immature nature of organic *** is found sporadically in siliceous-carbonate *** to the pyrolytic studies,average S1 is 4.4 mg/g and average S2 is 19.8 mg/g(for the core samples);average S1 is 2.1 mg/g and average S2 is 17.8 mg/g(for the

v2551 Cyg:a pulsating star with enigmatic peculiarities

Intensive photometric and spectral observations of the variable star v2551 Cyg are *** light curve shape reveals that the target is a pulsating star, contrary to its previous classification as an eclipsing binary. The period and amplitude of the light curve, the amplitudes of color changes and the radial velocity curve of v2551 Cyg are similar to those of a high-amplitude δ Scuti variable. The target seems to pulsate with the fundamental mode. However, v2551 Cyg exhibits several important peculiarities：（i） the decreasing branch of its light curve is steeper than the increasing one;（ii） the radial velocity curve has a flat section in the phase range 0.7-1.2 and short increase of the negative radial velocity at phase 0.7;（iii） the rotational velocity is quite big for a HADS star;（iv） the Fourier coefficients of v2551 Cyg are quite different from those of HADS stars. The target classification is difficult due to these peculiarities.

Optimization of Friction Welding process parameters for Joining Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel

Friction weIding is a solid state joining process used extensively currently owing to its advantages such as low heat input, high production efficiency, ease of manufacture, and environment friendliness. Materials difficult to be welded by fusion welding processes can be successfully welded by friction welding. An attempt was made to develop an empirical relationship to predict the tensile strength of friction welded AISI 1040 grade medium carbon steel and AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel, incorporating the process parameters such as friction pressure, forging pressure, friction time and forging time, which have great influence on strength of the joints. Response surface methodology was applied to optimize the friction welding process parameters to attain maximum tensile strength of the joint. The maximum tensile strength of 543 Mpa could be obtained for the joints fabricated under the welding conditions of friction pressure of 90 Mpa, forging pressure of 90 Mpa, friction time of 6 s and forging time of 6 s.
