Centralized Solar pV Systems for Static Loads Using Constant Voltage Control Method

The alternative energy resources, like solar, are always complementary due to environmental changes. Energy generation with the sources such as solar and wind is gaining importance and of that photovoltaic conversion is the main focus of researches due to its promising potential as the electrical source. This paper presents the constant voltage method of control where the output of the converter is maintained constant irrespective of the variations in the irradiance with the high step-up isolated efficient single switch DC-DC converter for the solar pV systems. Constant voltage method of control uses the array of photovoltaic systems as its energy source. The output of the Solar pV systems is nonlinear and has its dependency on temperature and irradiance by which the panel voltage and current varies with the variation in irradiance. Constant voltage control method always operates in such a way that the converter voltage is tried to be maintained constantly to the reference voltage which is set by the user. The system used here utilizes high step single switch isolated DC-DC converter and monitors the voltage continuously by varying the duty cycle to maintain the converter voltage always constant. As a way of improving the performance, both the open and closed loop analysis is done where the closed loop analysis uses the pI controller for its performance. The model is implemented in MATLAB and it accepts the irradiance as the input and outputs the constant voltage from the converter and the feasibility of the proposed converter topology is confirmed with experimental results of the prototype model.

Effect of angiotensin converting enzyme gene I/D polymorphism in South Indian children with nephrotic syndrome

Nephrotic syndrome is one of the most common childhood kidney diseases. It is mostly found in the age group of 2 to 8 years. Around 10%-15% of nephrotic syndrome cases are non-responders of steroid treatment(SRNS).Angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)(I/D) gene association studies are important for detecting kidney disease and herein we assessed the association of ACE(I/D) polymorphism with nephrotic syndrome in South Indian children. We recruited 260 nephrotic syndrome(162 boys and 98 girls) and 218(140 boys and 78 girls) control subjects. ACE I/D polymorphism was analyzed by pCR using genotype allele specific primers. In ACE(I/D), we did not find significant association for the ungrouped data of nephrotic syndrome children and the control subjects. Kidney biopsies were done in 86 nephrotic syndrome cases(minimal change disease, n = 51;focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, n = 27;diffuse mesangial proliferation, n = 8). We segregated them into the minimal change disease/focal segmental glomerulosclerosis groups and observed that the ACE’D’ allele was identified with borderline significance in cases of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and the ’Ⅰ’ allele was assessed as having very weak association in cases of minimal change disease. ’Ⅱ’ genotype was weakly associated with minimal change disease. Gender specific analysis revealed weak association of’ID’ genotype with female nephrotic syndrome in females. Dominant expression of DD genotype was observed in males with nephrotic syndrome. Our finding indicated that ACE(I/D) has moderate association with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. However, due to the limited number of biopsy proven focal segmental glomerulosclerosis subjects enrolled, further studies are required to confirm these results.

parametric Sensitivity Studies in a Commercial FCC Unit

A steady state model was developed for simulating the performance of an industrial fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit which was subsequently used in parametric sensitivity studies. The simulator includes kinetic models for the riser reactor and the regeneration systems. Mass and energy balances were performed for each of these sections and simulation results were compared with the plant data available in the literature. Model predictions were found to be in close agreement with the reported data. Finally this validated model was used for studying the effects of independent variables such as feed preheat temperature (Tfeed) and feed flow rate (Ffeed) on the unit performance at either fixed regenerated catalyst temp/regenerator temp (Trgn) or constant reactor outlet temperature (ROT). The catalyst circulation rate (CCR) was automatically adjusted to keep the ROT constant with varying the independent variables feed preheat temperature while the air rate adjusted for keeping the regenerator temperature constant which consequences the dependency of both dependent and independent variables on the unit performance. The air flow rate to the regenerator was also an independent variable during the parametric sensitivity analysis and its effect on FCC performance was investigated at constant Tfeed, Ffeed and CCR. Combining all the sensitivity analysis, it has been found to increase gas oil conversion and product yields by 5 to 6 percent with decrease of say, 10 K, in the feed preheat temperature (Tfeed) and corresponding increase in air rate (Fair) and catalyst circulation rate (Frgc) at constant reactor outlet temperature (ROT) and regenerated catalyst temperature (Trgc).

Switched Capacitor Biquad Filter Using CDTA

A switched capacitor biquad filter using current differencing transconductance amplifier (CDTA) is presented in this paper. The proposed circuit employs only one CDTA, two virtually grounded capacitors and one switched capacitor. It is a resistorless circuit, so it is beneficial to IC implementation in terms of space consideration. The proposed circuit is a second order single input multiple output (SIMO) current-mode filter. This filter can simultaneously realize all basic filter functions high pass, low pass and band pass responses without any component-matching conditions. All the active and passive sensitivities are low. The natural angular frequency (ω0) and quality factor (Q) of proposed filter can be electronically controlled. Owing to current mode operation it consumes less power. pSpICE simulation results are used to verify the theoretical analysis.

A Validated Stability-Indicating LC Method for Fluocinonide in the presence of Degradation products, Its process-Related Impurities and Identification of Degradation products

The objective of the current study was to develop a validated, specific and stability-indicating reverse phase liquid chromatographic method for the quantitative determination of fluocinonide and its related substances. The determination was done for active pharmaceutical ingredient and its pharmaceutical dosage forms in the presence of degradation products, and its process-related impurities. The drug was subjected to stress condi- tions of hydrolysis (acid and base), oxidation, photolysis and thermal degradation per International Confer- ence on Harmonization (ICH) prescribed stress conditions to show the stability- indicating power of the method. Significant degradation was observed during acid, base hydrolysis, and peroxide degradation. The major degradants were identified by LC-MS, FTIR and 1H/13C NMR spectral analysis. The chromatographic conditions were optimized using an impurity-spiked solution and the samples generated from forced degra- dation studies. In the developed HpLC method, the resolution between fluocinonide and its process-related impurities, (namely imp-1, imp-2, imp-3, imp-4, imp-5, imp-6, imp-7 and imp-8) and its degradation products was found to be greater than *** chromatographic separation was achieved on a C18, 250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm column. The LC method employed a linear gradient elution and the detection wavelength was set at 240 nm. The stress samples were assayed against a qualified reference standard and the mass balance was found to be close to 99.3%. The developed Rp-LC method was validated with respect to linearity, accuracy, precision and robustness.

The size of Metastasis in the Sentinel Node Is a predictor of Additional Non-Sentinel Node positivity

Background: The need for axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) when sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) contain micrometastasis is controversial. The purpose of this study was to determine if the size of tumor in the SLN corresponds with additional positive non-sentinel lymph nodes (non-SLN) in pT1 breast cancer. Methods: This retrospective review of 483 patients with pT1 breast cancer identified 96 patients with tumor positive SLN biopsies between June 1999 and February 2010. The size of SLN metastasis and the number of tumor positive non-SLN were recorded using AJCC criteria. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to discriminate the SLN size with the optimal sensitivity, specificity and likelihood ratios (LR) for additional positive non-SLN. Results: Among 96 patients with a tumor positive SLN, 41% (n = 39) had micrometastasis, and 59% (n = 57) had macrometastasis. A positive non-SLN was identified after ALND among 18% (n = 7 of 39) with micrometastasis compared with 39% (n = 22 of 57) with macrometastasis (p = 0.04). The size of the SLN metastasis and presence of additional tumor positive non-SLNs corresponds to a positive likelihood ratio of 1.1 for micrometastasis and 1.6 for macrometastasis (95%CI: 0.56 - 0.74). Conclusions: Increased size of tumor in SLN is associated with greater likelihood of non-SLN positivity and should be considered for more aggressive follow-up and therapy.

Crigler Najjar syndrome is associated with indirect hyperbilirubinemia due to a deficiency of enzyme Uridine Di phospho Glucoronosyl Transferase(UDpGT).presented here is a case of a female in the first trimester of pregnancy,who was diagnosed to have type 2 Crigler Najjar *** also discuss the management of this rare disease especially in *** bilirubin can cross the placental barrier causing neuro-logical damage in the *** was carefully monitored during pregnancy and treatment with pheno-barbitone in low doses was adjusted such that the serum bilirubin levels were below 10 mg/d *** Najjar syndrome being rare needs to be diagnosed early in pregnancy to avoid adverse fetal *** being an inducer of enzyme UDpGT is used as the first line of treatment and is not teratogenic in the low doses *** protocol followed was on the basis of previous reported cases and successful perinatal outcome was achieved.
