Contrasting REE Signatures on Manganese Ores of Iron Ore Group in North Orissa, India

The distribution pattern of Rare Earth Elements （REE） in three categories of manganese ores viz. stratiform, stratabound-replacement, and detrital of precambrian Iron Ore Group from north Orissa, India was reported. These categories of Mn-ore differed in their major and trace chemistry and exhibited contrasting REE signature. The stratiform ores were relatively enriched in ∑REE content （697 μg·g^-1） and their normalized pattern showed both positive Ce and Eu anomalies, whereas the stratabound-replacement types were comparatively depleted in ∑REE content （211 μg·g^-1） and showed negative Ce and flat Eu signatures. The detrital categories showed mixed REE pattern. The data plotted in different discrimination diagrams revealed a mixed volcaniclastic and chemogenic source of material for stratiform categories, and LREE （Light Rare Earth Elements） and HREE （Heavy Rare Earth Elements） are contributed by such sources, respectively. In contrast, the stratabound ore bodies were developed during the remobilization of stratiform ores, and associated Mncontaining rocks under supergene condition followed by the redeposition of circulating mineralized colloidal solutions in structurally favorable zones. During this process, some of the constituents were found only in very low concentration within stratabound ores, and this is attributed to their poor leachability/mobility. The detrital ores did not exhibit any significant characteristic in respect of REE as their development was via a complex combination of processes involving weathering, fragmentation, recementation, and burial under soil cover.

Effect of Heat Sink and Cooling Mediums on Ferrite Austenite Ratio and Distortion in Laser Welding of Duplex Stainless Steel 2205

In order to control the ferrite and austenite percentage in duplex stainless steel welding, many researchers try to change the laser welding parameters and cooling medium, but ignore to study the influence of heat sink effect on weld strength. In this work, the effect of aluminium heat sink and varying cooling medium on the laser welding of duplex stainless steel (DSS) 2205 is studied. The 2 mm thick DSS sheets welded with pulsed Nd: YAG laser welding machine by varying the cooling medium (air and oil) and an aluminium plate used as a heat sink. The welded specimens tested for tensile strength, micro-hardness, distortion, microstructure and radiography analysis. The faster cooling rate in the oil quenching process enhances the ferrite percentage compared with air-cooled samples. But the faster cooling rate in oil quenching leads to more distortion and using aluminium as a heat sink influenced positively the distortion to a small extent. The lower cooling rate in air quenching leads to a higher tensile strength of the welded specimen. The objective of this work is to analyse experimentally the effect of cooling medium and heat sink in the mechanical and metallurgical properties of laser welded duplex stainless steel.

Enhanced entropy generation and heat transfer characteristics of magnetic nano-encapsulated phase change materials in latent heat thermal energy storage systems

The objective of the current study is to investigate the importance of entropy generation and thermal radiation on the patterns of velocity,isentropic lines,and temperature contours within a thermal energy storage device filled with magnetic nanoencapsulated phase change materials(NEpCMs).The versatile finite element method(FEM)is implemented to numerically solve the governing *** effects of various parameters,including the viscosity parameter,ranging from 1 to 3,the thermal conductivity parameter,ranging from 1 to 3,the Rayleigh parameter,ranging from 102 to 3×10^(2),the radiation number,ranging from 0.1 to 0.5,the fusion temperature,ranging from 1.0 to 1.2,the volume fraction of NEpCMs,ranging from 2%to 6%,the Stefan number,ranging from 1 to 5,the magnetic number,ranging from 0.1 to 0.5,and the irreversibility parameter,ranging from 0.1 to 0.5,are examined in detail on the temperature contours,isentropic lines,heat capacity ratio,and velocity ***,the heat transfer rates at both the cold and hot walls are analyzed,and the findings are presented *** results indicate that the time taken by the NEpCMs to transition from solid to liquid is prolonged inside the chamber region as the fusion temperatureθf ***,the contours of the heat capacity ratio Cr decrease with the increase in the Stefan number Ste.

Isolation of bioactive compound from marine seaweeds against fish pathogenic bacteria Vibrio alginolyticus(VA09)and characterisation by FTIR

Objective:Fresh marine seaweeds Gracilaria edulis,Gracillaria verrcosa,Acanthospora spicifera,Ulva facita,Ulva lacta(***),Kappaphycus spicifera,Sargassum ilicifolium,Sargassum wightii(***),padina tetramatica and padina gymonospora were collected from Mandapam(Rameshwaram,Tamil Nadu)of South East coast of India and were screened for antibacterial ***:All the collected seaweeds were extracted by using five different solvent(methanol,isopropanol,acetone,chloroform,diethyl ether)to study their extracts against fish pathogenic bacteria ***(VA09)purchased from *** minimum inhibition carried out by using Resazurin micro-titre *** extract of *** analysied by ***:The methanolic extract of *** produced a maximum zone of inhibition(1.95±0.11)cm,isopropanol extract maximum inhibition was produced by ***(1.93±0.78)cm,Acetone extract of Gracilaria verrcosa showed maximum zone of inhibition(1.36±0.05)cm,chloroform extract of *** produced a maximum zone(1.56±0.25)cm and diethyl ether extract of *** produced maximum zone of inhibition(1.86±0.11)*** on the antibacterial activity ***,*** and padina tetramatica showed best antibacterial activity against Vibrio *** this three seaweeds were taken for MIC *** *** methanolic extract,*** diethyl ether extract and padina tetramatica methanolic extract showed a higher MIC values,and despectively were 25 mg/mL,50 mg/mL and 50 mg/*** result showed that mostly phenolic compounds were present in the ***:Based on the FTIR result *** have high amount of phenolic *** compound have the good antimicrobial *** results clearly show that *** is an interesting source for biologically active compounds that may be applied for prophylaxis and therapy of bacterial fish diseases and it should be used for immunostimulation activity in aquaculture.

A Hybrid Optimization Approach of Single point Incremental Sheet Forming of AISI 316L Stainless Steel Using Grey Relation Analysis Coupled with principal Component Analysiss

We investigated the parametric optimization on incremental sheet forming of stainless steel using Grey Relational Analysis(GRA) coupled with principal Component Analysis(pCA). AISI 316L stainless steel sheets were used to develop double wall angle pyramid with aid of tungsten carbide tool. GRA coupled with pCA was used to plan the experiment conditions. Control factors such as Tool Diameter(TD), Step Depth(SD), Bottom Wall Angle(BWA), Feed Rate(FR) and Spindle Speed(SS) on Top Wall Angle(TWA) and Top Wall Angle Surface Roughness(TWASR) have been studied. Wall angle increases with increasing tool diameter due to large contact area between tool and workpiece. As the step depth, feed rate and spindle speed increase,TWASR decreases with increasing tool diameter. As the step depth increasing, the hydrostatic stress is raised causing severe cracks in the deformed surface. Hence it was concluded that the proposed hybrid method was suitable for optimizing the factors and response.

Discharging granular material from a rotary kiln in a slumping regime： Theoretical and experimental studies

This study developed a theoretical approach to understanding how a set amount of a granular bed is discharged from a tilted rotary kiln （an empty cylinder） once its particle size distribution （pSD） is known and slumping motion occurs. The basis of the study is that the preparation of material for thermal treat- ment inside a rotary kiln （pyrolysis, gasification, and]or combustion） involves shredding to a desired particle size. Further mechanical stress results from the feeder screws moving material from storage toward the reactor. The most common pSDs found in uniform size reduction processes and mechanical stresses are Gaussian, log-normal, and Rosin-Rammler, of which the latter best fits the pSD in our study. Different particle diameters in the distribution result in an axial segregation when a slumping motion occurs, resulting in particles of different diameters leaving the kiln at different instants. After develop- ing the model, the theoretical data showed good agreement when compared with experimental results obtained from downloading previously shredded carbonaceous material from a rotary kiln at 2 and 4 rpm rotational speeds. The mean residence times at steady state were determined for both rotational speeds and showed good agreement with data provided in the literature.

Effect of Cold Deformation on phase Evolution and Mechanical properties in an Austenitic Stainless Steel for Structural and Safety Applications

The effects of cold deformation on the formation of strain induced α’ martensite and mechanical properties of an austenitic stainless steel have been examined.X-ray diffraction analysis has revealed that 30% and 40% cold rolling have resulted in the formation of 24% and 31.5% martensite *** investigation has demonstrated that the formation of martensite is enhanced with increase in the percent deformation at 0 ℃.Investigation of mechanical properties reveals that hardness,yield strength and tensile strength values increase where as percent elongation drops with increasing *** fractographic observation corroborates the tensile *** of sub-surface at the fractured end of the tensile sample manifests that void/microcrack nucleation occurs in the interfacial regions of the martensite phase as well as at the austenite-martensite interface
