Microbes and their products play key roles in complementing chemical fertilizers and plant protection chemicals by eliciting defence mechanisms in crop plants,thereby providing immunity and resistance against diverse stresses.Among the different environmental technologies used to mitigate climate change,several microbiological interventions are promising,among which biofilms,both naturally-existing and laboratory-developed,and their application have gained momentum recently.Microbial biofilms are aggregations of microbial cells in a self-generated polymeric matrix,which are produced by several genera of bacteria,yeasts,cyanobacteria,and fungi as a mode of reproductive fitness,thereby advantageous in successful proliferation,even in extreme environments.The propensity of microbial biofilms to grow in diverse niches and adapt to biotic and abiotic stresses illustrates their immense potential as biofertilizers and disease suppression options in various crops across diverse ecologies.In the inhospitable habitats of deserts and denudated land,biofilms play an important role in preventing soil erosion and sustaining vegetation,microflora,and fauna.Biofilms represent a mode of growth for several microbes with plant growth-promoting and biocontrol potential,which are important in seed establishment and the facilitation of exchanging nutrients and metabolites from the environment.In this review,we discuss the prospects of microbial biofilms as a green option in agriculture in general and,more specifically,their potential in mitigating climate change.

In this paper,an optimized Genetic Algorithm(GA)based internal model controller-proportional integral derivative(IMC-pID)controller has been designed for the control variable to output variable transfer function of dc-dc boost converter to mitigate the effect of non-minimum phase(NMp)behavior due to the presence of a right-half plane zero(RHpZ).This RHpZ limits the dynamic performance of the converter and leads to internal instability.The IMC pID is a streamlined counterpart of the standard feedback controller and easily achieves optimal set point and load change performance with a single filter tuning parameterλ.Also,this paper addresses the influences of the model-based controller with model plant mismatch on the closed-loop control.The conventional IMC pID design is realized as an optimization problem with a resilient controller being determined through a genetic algorithm.Computed results suggested that GA–IMC pID coheres to the optimum designs with a fast convergence rate and outperforms conventional IMC pID controllers.

Numerous empirical and experimental studies have documented the consumption of orthopyroxene and production of clinopyroxene in mantle peridotite during carbonatite metasomatism,whereas little attention has been paid to whether and how olivine is compositionally modified through the same process of carbonatite metasomatism.Here,we present the discovery of well-preserved reaction features in olivine from typical calciocarbonatites from Sri Lanka.The olivine grains experienced serpentinization along the cracks and in their rims and are generally surrounded outwardly by serpentine,tremolite and diopside zones.The inner serpentine zone is dominated by serpentine with tiny magnetite,whereas the mantle tremolite zone is characterized by euhedral tremolite and intergrowth of dolomite with small amounts of serpentine relics and diopside.The outer diopside zone shows spongy texture and commonly encloses olivine,serpentine,tremolite and dolomite,which are also observed in interstitial diopside grains in the carbonatites.Compositional profile analyses reveal that these olivine grains display decreasing FeO and increasing MgO contents and thus elevating Fo values from their cores to the reaction rims,while the serpentine inherits compositions from the olivine.Elemental mapping images demonstrate outward diffusion of Si and Mg in the serpentine zones and contribution of Ca from carbonatite melts during tremolite formation.Further interaction with carbonatite melts produced Si-and Mg-poor and Ca-rich diopside relative to the reactant tremolite.These observations suggest that the interaction with carbonatite melts first transformed olivine to diopside through serpentinization,followed by tremolitization.The diopside formed through olivine-carbonatite melt interaction is anomalously depleted in Na and Al and enriched in Ca,which are distinct from those generated in interactions between orthopyroxene and both carbonatite and silicate melts.This implies that for the first time some wehrlites and clinopyroxenites in the mantle migh

1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy and diffusion weighted imaging features of the cerebellar vermis in 17 medulloblastoma patients were retrospectively analyzed, and 17 healthy volunteers were selected as controls. 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy showed that in all 17 medulloblastoma patients, N-acetyl aspartate and creatine peaks were significantly decreased, the choline peak was significantly increased, and there was evidence of a myo-inositol peak. Further, 11 patients showed a low taurine peak at 3.4 ppm, five patients showed a lipid peak at 0.9-1.3 ppm, and three patients showed a negative lactic acid peak at 1.33 ppm. Compared with the control group, the ratios of N-acetyl aspartate/choline and N-acetyl aspartate/creatine were significantly decreased, and the ratio of choline/creatine was increased, in medulloblastoma patients. Diffusion weighted imaging displayed hyperintensity and decreased apparent diffusion coefficient in medulloblastoma patients. These findings indicate that 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy and diffusion weighted imaging are useful for qualitative diagnosis of medulloblastoma.

Gastrointestinal tract is the most common extranodal site involved by lymphoma with the majority being non-Hodgkin type.Although lymphoma can involve any part of the gastrointestinal tract,the most frequent sites in order of its occurrence are the stomach followed by small intestine and ileocecal region.Gastrointestinal tract lymphoma is usually secondary to the widespread nodal diseases and primary gastrointestinal tract lymphoma is relatively rare.Gastrointestinal lymphomas are usually not clinically specific and indistinguishable from other benign and malignant conditions.Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common pathological type of gastrointestinal lymphoma in essentially all sites of the gastrointestinal tract,although recently the frequency of other forms has also increased in certain regions of the world.Although some radiological features such as bulky lymph nodes and maintenance of fat plane are more suggestive of lymphoma,they are not specific,thus mandating histopathological analysis for its definitive diagnosis.There has been a tremendous leap in the diagnosis,staging and management of gastrointestinal lymphoma in the last two decades attributed to a better insight into its etiology and molecular aspect as well as the knowledge about its critical signaling pathways.

perfusion computed tomography (CT) has emerged as a novel functional imaging technique with gradually increasing importance in the management of colorectal cancer (CRC).By providing the functional tumor microvasculature,it also helps the assessment of therapeutic response of anti-angiogenic drugs as it may reflect tumor angiogenesis.perfusion CT has been applied in clinical practice to delineate inflammatory or neoplastic lymph nodes irrespective of their size,identify micro-metastases and to predict metastases in advance of their development.It is of increasing significance for preoperative adjuvant therapies and avoidance of unnecessary interventions.Despite controversies regarding the techniques employed,its validity and reproducibility,it can be advantageous in the management of CRCs in which the prognosis is dependent on preoperative staging.With recent advances in the perfusion CT techniques,and incorporation to other modalities like positron emission tomography,perfusion CT will be a novel tool in the overall management of CRCs.This article aims at reviewing the existing clinical applications and recent advances of perfusion CT with a reference to future development in the management of CRCs.
