Diagnosing the evolution of laser-generated high energy density(HED)systems is fundamental to develop a correct understanding of the behavior of matter under extreme ***–Lau interferometry constitutes a promising tool,since it permits simultaneous single-shot X-ray radiography and phase-contrast imaging of dense *** present the results of an experiment at OMEGA Ep that aims to probe the ablation front of a laser-irradiated foil using a Talbot–Lau X-ray interferometer.A polystyrene(CH)foil was irradiated by a laser of 133 J,1 ns and probed with 8 keV laser-produced backlighter radiation from Cu foils driven by a short-pulse laser(153 J,11 ps).The ablation front interferograms were processed in combination with a set of reference images obtained ex situ using *** managed to obtain attenuation and phase-shift images of a laser-irradiated foil for electron densities above 1022 cm−*** results showcase the capabilities of Talbot–Lau X-ray diagnostic methods to diagnose HED laser-generated plasmas through high-resolution imaging.

We report on an experiment performed at the FLASH2 free-electron laser(FEL)aimed at producing warm dense matter via soft x-ray isochoric *** the experiment,we focus on study of the ions emitted during the soft x-ray ablation process using time-of-flight electron multipliers and a shifted Maxwell–Boltzmann velocity distribution *** find that most emitted ions are thermal,but that some impurities chemisorbed on the target surface,such as protons,are accelerated by the electrostatic field created in the plasma by escaped *** morphology of the complex crater structure indicates the presence of several ion groups with varying *** find that the ion sound velocity is controlled by the ion temperature and show how the ion yield depends on the FEL radiation attenuation length in different materials.

photosynthetic Regulation of the Cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. pCC 6803 Thioredoxin System and Functional Analysis of TrxB （Trx x） and TrxQ （Trx y） Thioredoxins

The expression of the genes encoding the ferredoxin-thioredoxin system including the ferredoxin-thioredoxin reductase （FTR） genes ftrC and ftrV and the four different thioredoxin genes trxA （m-type; sir0623）, trxB （x-type; sir1139）, trxC （sll1057） and trxQ （y-type; sir0233） of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. pCC 6803 has been studied according to changes in the photosynthetic conditions. Experiments of light-dark transition indicate that the expression of all these genes except trxQ decreases in the dark in the absence of glucose in the growth medium. The use of two electron transport inhibitors, 3-（3,4-dichlorophenyl）-1,1-dimethylurea （DCMU） and 2,5-dibromo-3-methyl-6-isopropyl-p- benzoquinone （DBMIB）, reveals a differential effect on thioredoxin genes expression being trxC and trxQ almost unaffected, whereas trxA, trxB, and the ftr genes are down-regulated. In the presence of glucose, DCMU does not affect gene expression but DBMIB still does. Analysis of the single TrxB or TrxQ and the double TrxB TrxQ Synechocystis mutant strains reveal different functions for each of these thioredoxins under different growth conditions. Finally, a Synechocystis strain was generated containing a mutated version of TrxB （TrxBC34S）, which was used to identify the potential in-vivo targets of this thioredoxin by a proteomic analysis.

Accurate and reliable predictions of pest species distributions in forest ecosystems are urgently needed by forest managers to develop management plans and monitor new areas of potential ***-only species distribution models are commonly used in these *** maximum entropy algorithm(MaxEnt)has gained popularity for modelling species ***,MaxEnt was used to model the spatial distribution of the Mexican pine bark beetle(Dendroctonus mexicanus)in a daily fashion by using forecast data from the Weather Research and Forecasting *** study aimed to exploit freely available geographic and environmental data and software and thus provide a pathway to overcome the lack of costly data and technical guidance that are a challenge to implementing national monitoring and management strategies in developing *** results showed overall agreement values between 60 and 87%.The results of this research can be used for *** monitoring and management and may aid as a model to monitor similar species.

Impaired immune reaction and increased lactate and C-reactive protein for early prediction of severe morbidity and pancreatic fistula after pancreatoduodenectomy

Background: prediction of complications after pancreatoduodenectomy (pD) remains of interest. Blood parameters and biomarkers during rst and second postoperative days (pOD1, pOD2) may be early indi- cators of complications. Methods: This case-control study included 50 patients. Baseline, pOD1 and pOD2 values of leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets, hemoglobin, C-reactive protein (CRp), procalcitonin and arterial lactate were compared between individuals presenting Clavien ≥ III morbidity, pancreatic stula (pF) or clinically relevant pF (CRpF) and those without these morbidities. Common variables reaching signi cance were further analyzed in order to calculate a predictive score. Results: Severe morbidity, pF and CRpF rates were 28.0%, 26.0% and 14.0%, respectively. patients with severe morbidity had lower leukocytes on pOD2 (p=0.04). patients with pF presented higher CRp on pOD2 (p=0.001), higher lactate on pOD1 (p=0.007) and pOD2 (p=0.008), and lower lymphocytes on pOD1 (p=0.007) and pOD2 (p=0.008). patients with CRpF had lower leukocytes and neutrophils on pOD1 (p =0.048, p =0.038), lower lymphocytes on pOD1 (p =0.001) and pOD2 (p =0.003), and higher CRp on pOD2 (p =0.001). Baseline parameters and procalcitonin obtained no statistical associations. Score was de ned according to lymphocytes on pOD1 p on pOD2 ≥ 250 mg/L allocating patients in 3 risk categories. pF and CRpF rates were statistically higher as risk category increased (pperating characteristic curves and Hosmer Lemeshow tests showed a good accuracy. Conclusions: Impaired immunological reaction during early postoperative period (lower leukocytes and, particularly, lymphocytes) in response to surgical aggression would favor complications after pD. Likewise, acidosis (higher arterial lactate) could behave as risk factor of pF. An elevated CRp on pOD2 is also an early biomarker of pF. Our novel score based on postoperative lymphocyte count and CRp seems reliable

Eucalyptus grandis plantations:effects of management on soil carbon,nutrient contents and yields

The expansion of fast-growing tree plantations is a worldwide process,with consequences on soil fertility and soil carbon *** results were found on the effects of afforestation with Eucalyptus on soil carbon and other nutrient *** discrepancies are usually caused by differences in climate,land use history,soil texture as well as by management related factors such as plantation age,number of rotations,method of establishment(plantation or coppice),harvest residue management and soil *** studied the effect of plantation age,number of rotations,and method of establishment on soils and plant nutrient concentrations in Eucalyptus grandis plantations in NE Argentina on different textured *** also determined if yields changed with nutrient variations in soils,and compared soils under plantations to soils under grasslands they ***-one *** stands of different ages,number of rotations and method of establishment were evaluated as well as eight grassland *** of carbon,nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium,calcium and magnesium were determined for soils and *** carbon and nitrogen decreased over the number of rotations and were more pronounced in soils with 50-60%sand than soils with>75%*** stands showed higher soil carbon and nitrogen levels than plantations,suggesting a negative effect of site preparation before planting on soil nutrient conservation,especially in fine-textured *** nutrient concentrations did not follow the trends observed for soil nutrients nor did they reflect nutrient *** was no evidence of decreased yields over successive *** carbon and nitrogen contents decrease when grasslands are replaced by *** plantations,and therefore a yield limitation may occur in a medium to long-term frame,especially in stands re-established for short-rotation *** residue management and site preparation must be specifically designed for improving so

Severe morbidity after pancreatectomy is accurately pre dicte d by preoperative pancreatic resection score(pREpARE): A prospective validation analysis from a medium-volume center

Background: Major morbidity in pancreatic surgery remains high. Different scores for predicting complications have been described. preoperative pancreatic resection(pREpARE) score is based on objective preoperative variables and offers good predictive accuracy for Clavien ≥ III complications. This study aimed to validate this score and analyze other preoperative variables in a prospective study performed in a medium-volume center. Methods: A total of 50 pancreatic resections were included. preoperative variables were registered and pREpARE was calculated. The main outcome was severe morbidity(Clavien ≥ III) up to 30 days after discharge. The secondary outcomes were length of stay(LOS) and readmission. Statistical validation was performed to compare severe morbidity rate among the scores categories. Association with other preoperative variables(not included in pREpARE) was also tested. Results: Of the 50 pancreatic resections, the severe morbidity was 34.0%, with median LOS of 11 days. Readmission rate was 25.5%. Severe morbidity rates according to pREpARE categories were 18.5% in lowrisk group, 41.7% in intermediate-risk group, and 63.6% in high-risk group, respectively( p = 0.023). The accuracy was 72%(Hosmer–Lemeshow, p = 0.86). ROC curve was obtained both for pREpARE score expressed as incremental values and categorized as the three risk groups, showing an area under curve(AUC) of 0.736(95% CI: 0.586–0.887; p = 0.007) and 0.712(95% CI: 0.555–0.869; p = 0.015), respectively. pREpARE was significant in multivariate analysis. Median LOS was statistically higher as pREpARE category increases(9, 11 and 15 days in low-, intermediate-and high-risk groups, respectively; p = 0.009). Readmission was not associated with any variables. Conclusions: pREpARE behaves as an independent risk factor for severe morbidity after pancreatic surgery. Score validation shows good accuracy prediction. Increasing pREpARE category is also associated with longer LOS.

Cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6(CDK4/6)inhibitors demonstrated activity in terms of progression-free survival(pFS)in advanced dedifferentiated liposarcoma(DD-LpS),a sarcoma with CDK4 ***4 overexpression is by far more common than amplification in sarcomas and it might be a rational target for CDK *** investigators of this study found that CDK4 overexpression,while not of CDKN2A,was the most consistent predictive factor for palbociclib efficacy in *** adult-type soft-tissue sarcoma,excluding DD-LpS,or bone sarcoma patients,progressing after at least one systemic line,whose tumors overexpressed CDK4,but not CDKN2A at baseline biopsy,were accrued in this single-arm phase II trial(EudraCT number:2016-004039-19).With the main endpoint of a 6-month pFS rate,40%was considered promising in this *** was administered orally at 125 mg/day for 21 days in 28-day cycles.A total of 214 patients with 236 CDK4/CDKN2A determinations were assessed for prescreening,archival material(141),and screening,baseline biopsy(95).There were 28(29%)with favorable mRNA profiles from 95 screened patients at *** 23 enrolled patients,21 evaluable,the 6-month pFS rate was 29%(95%CI 9–48),and there were 6 patients out of 21 with a pFS longer than 6 *** median pFS and overall survival were 4.2(95%CI 3.6–4.8)and 12(95%CI 8.7–15.4)months,*** research showed a significant correlation between CDK4 mRNA and protein *** was active in a variety of sarcoma subtypes,selected by CDK4/CDKN2A,and deserves further investigation in the sarcoma context.

To the Editor：We read with outstanding interest the article by Celik et al. It is the first external description of the Hamburg＇s preoperative pancreatic resection （pREpARE） score since it was published in 2014 by Uzunoglu et al. According to the latter authors, it is necessary to stratify risk of major morbidity and mortality before performing a pancreatic resection, and pREpARE score is a simple index, validated in a multicenter cohort of patients undergoing this group of technically demanding procedures.
