The objective of the present study was to evaluate the resistance of 10 accessions to p. infestans, by in-vitro inoculation of detached leaflets with a complex isolation of the fungus. Late blight, caused by the fungus phytophthora infestans Mont. De Bary, is one of the most important diseases of the potato crop, and can destroy complete plantations in a short space of time. Chile is considered as a sub-centre of the origin of cultivated potatoes with many native potato varieties in the country. The different resistance components demonstrated that within the material of Chilean native Solanum, there was a wide range of variation to late blight. The resistant control (R-8906384) and the accessions UCT-34-Cor presented the lowest infection efficiency, small sizes of the lesions and low levels of sporulation classifying them as the most resistant. This suggests low efficiency of the infection and high resistance to penetration in these materials. The more susceptible accessions often presented a good level of resistance for one or few components. It would be of great interest to go into the genetic control of the different resistance components to know if the same level of resistance expressed for a component by different accessions is under the same genetic control or not.

AIM:To investigate the prognostic role of genomic stability and copy number alterations(CNAs)pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors(pan NETs).METHODS:A high-resolution array-based comparative genomic hybridization approach was utilized in order to investigate and quantify chromosomal aberrations in a panel of 37 primary pan NET and 11 metastatic *** samples were extracted from formalinfixed and paraffin-embedded tumor *** findings were correlated with histopathological and immunohistochemical ***,the dataset was subjected to employing an unsupervised hierarchical clustering analysis approach utilizing Euclidean distance and average linkage and associations between genomically defined tumor groups and recurrent CNAs or clinicopathological features of the study group were ***:Numerous chromosomal aberrations were recurrently detected in both,primary tumor samples and *** number gains were most frequently observed at 06p22.2-p22.1(27.1%),17p13.1(20.8%),07p21.3-p21.2(18.8%),09q34.11(18.8%).Genomic losses were significantly less frequent and the only recurrent aberration affected 08q24.3(6.3%).Moreover,we detected a high degree of genomic heterogeneity between primary tumors and metastatic *** hierarchical clustering of loci affected by CNAs in more than 3 primary tumor samples revealed two genetically distinct tumor groups as well as two chromosomal clusters of genomic imbalances indicating a small subset of tumors with common molecular features(13.5%).Aberrations affecting6p22.2-22.1,8q24.3,9q34.11 and 17p13.1(p=0.011;0.003;0.003;0.001),were significantly associated with a poorer survival ***:This study suggests that several frequent CNAs in numerous candidate regions are involved in the pathogenesis and metastatic progression of panNET.

Between January 2003and April 2004,a prospective study was performed on ejaculates from non-obstructive a-zoospermicmen(n =95),for the identification of sper-matogenic cells using an immunohistochemical labeling for proacrosin.48.4%of ejaculates(46/95)displayed la-beled spermatogenic cells.A 38/95(40%)of men had testicular sperm extraction(TESE)followed by intracyto-plasmic sperm injection(ICSI ).Testicular spermatozoa were extracted from 21men(52.5%).The sensitivity of detecting spermatogenic cells is 66.7%in predicting the presence of testicular spermatozoa,and its specificity is76.5%.Compared to histopathologic al diagnostic testicu-lar biopsy,the detection of spermatogenic cells using proacrosin immunohistochemical me thod offers a predictive parameter for successful *** i mmunohistochemical method for proacrosin has the advant ages of simplicity and low *** could be used to predict s permatogenesis from non -obstructive azoospermic men.F urther evaluation is required with extensive results to i mprove sensitivity andspecificity.

Extensive Medical Absenteeism among Secondary School Students: An Observational Study on Their Health Condition from a Biopsychosocial perspective

An adequate approach to reducing school absenteeism should focus on medical absenteeism as this is the most prevalent form of school absenteeism. The objective of this study is to explore the health condition of pre-vocational secondary students with extensive medical absenteeism from a biopsychosocial perspective. Data were obtained from medical assessments and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaires (SDQs) of students with medical absence above threshold criteria (i.e. reported sick four times in 12 school weeks or more than six consecutive school days) who were referred to a youth health care physician. The results showed that the students had a mean absence rate of 14% in 12 school weeks. Of all students, 43.5% had a diagnosed disease and 81.5% had problems such as physical complaints not yet diagnosed, psychosocial problems, lifestyle problems and sleeping difficulties. Four groups could be distinguished: 13.4% with a diagnosed disease and no problem, 30.1% with a diagnosed disease and a problem, 51.5% with a problem and no diagnosed disease and 5.1% without a diagnosed disease or problem. Significantly higher scores of the Total difficulties-scale on the SDQ were found (mean 10.5;SD 5.8) in the study group, compared to a reference group (mean 9.1;SD 4.9). In conclusion, this study shows that when using the aforementioned criteria for extensive medical absenteeism to intervene with the absence, students with a mean absence rate of 14% in 12 school weeks are identified. If there was a diagnosed disease, it was accompanied by problems about twice as often. More than half of the students’ absence was caused by problems rather than a disease. The great diversity of these problems calls for a personalized approach. A broad perspective, including medical expertise, is needed to distinguish between emerging mental and physical diseases, psychosocial and lifestyle problems.
