Academic productivity correlates with industry earnings in foot and ankle fellowship programs in the United States:A retrospective analysis

BACKGROUND The study investigates the connection between academic productivity and industry earnings in foot and ankle orthopedic surgery *** metrics like the H-index and Open payments Database(OpD)data,it addresses a gap in understanding the relationship between scholarly achievements and financial outcomes,providing a basis for further exploration in this specialized medical *** To elucidate the trends between academic productivity and industry earnings across foot and ankle orthopedic surgery fellowship programs in the United *** This study is a retrospective analysis of the relationship between academic productivity and industry earnings of foot and ankle orthopedic surgery fellowships at an individual faculty and fellowship *** productivity was defined via H-index and recorded from the Scopus *** earnings were recorded from the *** Forty-eight foot and ankle orthopedic surgery fellowships(100%of fellowships)in the United States with a combined total of 165 physicians(95.9%of physicians)were *** individual physician(n=165)total life-time earnings reported on the OpD website was United States Dollar(USD)451430.30±1851084.89(range:USD 25.16-21269249.85;median:USD 27839.80).Mean physician(n=165)H-index as reported on Scopus is 14.24±12.39(range:0-63;median:11).There was a significant but weak correlation between individual physician H-index and individual physician total life-time earnings(ppearman’s rho=0.334)and a significant and moderate positive correlation between combined fellowship H-index and total life-time earnings per fellowship(p=0.004,Spearman’s rho=0.409).CONCLUSION There is a significant and positive correlation between academic productivity and industry earnings at foot and ankle orthopedic surgery fellowships in the United *** observation is true on an individual physician level as well as on a fellowship level.

Geometric physically-based simulation systemscan be used for analyzing and optimizing complex millingprocesses, for example in the automotive or aerospaceindustry, where the surface quality and process efficiencyare limited due to chatter vibrations. process simulationsusing tool models based on the constructive solid geometry（CSG） technique allow the analysis of process forces, tooldeflections, and surface location errors resulting from five-axis machining operations. However, modeling complextool shapes and effects like runout is difficult using CSGmodels due to the increasing complexity of the shapedescriptions. Therefore, a point-based method for modelingthe rotating tool considering its deflections is presented inthis paper. With this method, tools with complex shapesand runout can be simulated in an efficient and flexibleway. The new modeling approach is applied to exemplarymilling processes and the simulation results are validatedbased on machining experiments.

The baumann Skin Typing System diagnoses patients as having one of 16 skin types based on their answers to a validated questionnaire [i] known as the baumann Skin Type Indicator [ii]. The BSTI questionnaire has been tested over the last decade on over 200,000 people of various ages and ethnicities in different geographic locations around the world. In this study, data were collected from 52,862 patients to compare skin type prevalence between those who presented to doctor’s offices and those who took the quiz without supervision online. The most common skin types varied only slightly between patients that took the quiz online and those that completed the questionnaire in their doctor’s office. This indicates that the prevalence of skin types seen in the doctor’s office is similar to that in the general population and that supervision is not necessary to get an accurate result on the BSTI. [iii] In addition, comparison of data gathered in China, Korea, and the US did not show a significant difference in skin type prevalence between Asian and Caucasian skin types. [iv] This study demonstrates that the English version of the BSTI is valid for English speaking patients online, and in doctors’ offices in the US, China and Korea.

治疗药物监测(Therapeutic Drug Monitoring,TDM)通过定量测定和解释血药浓度以优化药物治疗。TDM着眼于药代动力学的个体差异,使个体化药物治疗成为可能。在精神病学和神经病学领域中,有可能明显获益于TDM的主要患者群体包括少年儿童、孕妇、老年患者、智障患者、药物滥用者、涉法精神病患者、已知或怀疑药代动力学异常的患者以及合并躯体疾病影响药代动力学的患者。常规剂量下治疗无效,用药依从性难以判断,药物耐受性不佳,以及可能存在药代动力学方面的药物-药物相互作用等情况都是治疗药物监测的典型指征。然而,只有将TDM充分整合到临床治疗过程中,才能发挥其优化药物治疗的潜在优势。为了向临床医生和实验室提供有效的TDM信息,神经精神药理学与药物精神病学协会(Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Neuropsychopharmakologie und pharmakopsychiatrie,AGNp)的TDM专家组在2004年发表了第一版《精神科治疗药物监测指南》。2011年进行了更新之后,现在再次更新。遵循新版指南,可能会改善神经精神药物治疗的效果,加快很多患者的康复,并降低医疗费用。

AIM To develop a locally adapted, patient-focused transitionprogram, we evaluated the perceptions of adult and adolescent patients and parents regarding transitionprograms and *** We evaluated these perceptions by analyzing the responses of pre-transfer adolescents(n = 57), their parents(n = 57) and post-transfer adults(n = 138) from a cohort of pediatric-liver-transplant-patients using a self-designed questionnaire. Furthermore, we compared a responder group with a non-responder group as well as the provided answers with baseline characteristics and clinical outcomes to exclude selection bias, characterize high-risk patients for nonadherence and test for gender differences. Included in our study were all pre-transfer liver transplant and combined liver-kidney transplant recipients aged 11-19 currently under our care and their parents, as well as all post-transfer liver transplant and combined liverkidney transplant recipients aged ≥ 17 years who had received a liver transplant and were treated at our center during *** Fifty-seven(24 female) pre-transfer patients who received a transplant in the previous 8-186 mo(mean 93.9 mo, median 92 mo, SD 53.8 mo) and 138(57 female) post-transfer patients who received a transplant in the preceding 2-29 years(mean 15.6 years, median 17, SD 6.90) met the inclusion criteria. A total of 67% of pre-transfer patients(71% of female; 64% of male; p = 0.78) and their parents replied. Additionally, 54% of post-transfer patients(26% of female; 48% of male; p = 0.01) replied. No differences in clinical outcomes were observed between the responder and non-responder groups, and responses did not differ significantly based on clinical complication rates, although they did differ based on gender and the location of medical follow-up after transfer. Adolescents were generally ambivalent toward transition programs. However, adults strongly supported transition programs. CONCLUSION Transition programs need to be develop

Early after priming, effector CD8 T cells are distinguished into memory precursor and short-lived effector cell subsets （MpECs and SLECs）. Here, we delineated a distinct in vivo heterogeneity in killer cell lectin-like receptor G1 （KLRG-1） expression, which was strongly associated with diverse MpEC and SLEC fates. These in vivo MpECs and SLECs expressed equivalent levels of cytotoxic molecules and effector cytokines. Using a unique in vivodegranulation assay, we found that the MpECs and SLECs similarly encountered infected target cells and elaborated equivalent levels of cytotoxicity in vivo. These data provide direct in vivoevidence that memory-fated ceils pass through a robust effector phase. Additionally, the preferential localization of the MpECs in the lymph nodes, where a lesser degree of cytotoxicity was elaborated, suggests that the MpECs may be protected from excessive stimulation and terminal differentiation by virtue of their differential tissue localization. These data provide novel mechanistic insights into the linear decreasing potential model of memory differentiation.
